Ok, we have seen and heard that the new Mule in Serenity hovers.

So are we just supposed to accept that the Firefly Mule could hover the whole time? Or did Mal buy a new Mule == hovercraft?

Mal could have sold the Lassiter and the old Mule and upgraded during the time that has passed between the TV show and movie.

Do you think the movie will explain the new Mule, or will it be one of the things we, loyal fans, should overlook?

What's your guess?

We know a new Mule is due (it was pretty much wrecked in War Stories). It would be enough for me if Mal were to mention that he managed to sell the Lassiter. That would explain not only the new Mule, but maybe how Serenity's corridors got wider.

Oh, and play Strange Adventures in Infinite Space. http://digital-eel.com/sais

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, of course the old Mule pretty much went up w/ the explosion the crew used for a diversion during the infiltration of Niska's station in War Stories.

From what we have seen of the series, the mule gets a lot of use, transporting people, cargo, etc. It seems to me that a mule is necessary for the line of work our crew is in.

Why exactly Joss decided to go w/ a hovercraft style mule is something I have thought about several times. Could be that it was to give the show a more sci fi feel, or could be the Captain got a really great deal.

Whatever the reason, does it really matter when we consider we are getting the BDM against all the garbage the naysayers flung at us?

Thanks for reminding me the Old Mule got blown up in War Stories. My question is officially irrelevant, yay.

Ok, Djerodek at the Serenity Board has reminded me of this:

"Except that we saw it again all charred in the Message."

So I guess the mystery question continues.

Why leave behind good spare parts?

Seriously, my bet is that they picked it up before taking off. We didn't see it used again after that, but we did see it. The poor thing was probably trashed to the point of not working. Most likely, they grabbed it on the way out, hoping to at least get some cash for it as spare parts (or use the parts themselves).

my take is that it got blown up on war stories and the crew may have taken it with them in an attempt to fix it. perhaps later they realized they could not fix it, even with kaylee's genius. thus, they had to buy a new one.
