Should we appeal to other networks instead of Fox?

I was checking the ratings on the Fox show Dark Angel. The first season the ratings averaged around a 6.0 or 7.0. The second season the ratings dropped to an average of 4.0 and Fox cancelled it. Even if Firefly gets a 4.0 this week, and there is a good chance it won't, Fox could still cancel it. I'm sure Fox knew Dark Angel had a big fan base but that didn't seem to matter to them. The 4.0 rating is good for UPN, WB, and Sci Fi. It seems like no matter what the fans think Fox will cancel Firefly unless by some miracle it's ratings improve to a 6 or 7.0. Would it be more benificial to have a petition for the WB or UPN? Any ideas?

We should definitely appeal to Fox. Not only are they the network broadcasting the show, they are also producers and owners of Firefly.

The actual number of people/households watching the show is not as important to Fox as the number of 18-49 demographic (i.e. the "right" viewers"). Also, the "share" number is important, that is of all the TVs on, what % are watching Firefly. Fox would jump up and down to have a show with a 10 share on Friday "Death" Night.

If FF can improve its numbers over the next couple of episodes -- even a little - the network will be hard pressed to pull the plug for many reasons:

1. Fox has already invested a lot of $$$ in the show, whether or not it continues.

2. Fox has an expensive deal with Joss Whedon which costs a lot of $$$ whether or not the show goes on.

3. Fox doesn't have a whole helluva lot in the pipeline -- the advertisers don't love "When Crazy, Drunken Cops Attack" even when it has good ratings.

4. Did I mention "girls club"? Big problem on Monday night.

IMHO, we should appeal to Fox, friends, family -- the Triple F -- to keep Serenity flying!

Ooooh, "Out Of Gas" promo on baseball...

Nope. Fox is it. WB and UPN can't afford to make the show and I don't see another big network taking on Firefly as it's struggling on Fox!

The time to appeal to other networks would be if the show got picked up for a full season, but was in danger of not being renewed for S2. If Fox doesn't pick up the rest of this season, that would pretty much be that.

Bare in mind that Tim Minear said Firefly is cheaper to produce than Buffy or Angel, which I'm guessing both are cheaper to produce than Dark Angel. So while a 4.0 may not be acceptable for Dark Angel, it might be okay for Firefly.

I think they should move Firefly to Monday nights once football is over.

I think Fox is really the only channel, other than Sci Fi, that would take on FF. Channels like ABC, NBC, and CBS don't have the 'right' type of viewers for the show.
