If Joss had wanted to "flesh out" the story lines or answer the many Firefly questions that have been asked, he would have wrote the Serenity comics himself. But he didn't. Same with the Buffy comics. He didn't write them either. Joss Whedon is on the cover as the Executive Producer, but this is not the answer to any questions about Firefly I have ever had:

One interesting comment: "David Madden is a very nice man and exceedingly polite/charming. He could have very easily been making pleasant small talk."

Another comment had a different view of Madden's motives: "Joss won't do it. Too much time has passed and he has other projects. So Madden can safely say that, paying lip service to fans while knowing it won't happen. He just passed the blame card to Joss. Dick move. Very sad."
