Far as I figure, the most of folk have HBO in some form or another at this point, so let's use it as a free converson tool. Here's my thought, I have written a form email(tweak as you like)for you, the viewer at home, to copy and paste into an email and then send to everyone in your inbox asking them to watch Serenity. When they love it too, it then askes them to do the same for everyone in THEIR inbox, but changing the date/time for the next showing.

Couldn't hurt, right? So here goes:

Dear friends, family and people who I haven’t spoken to in forever(sorry),

You may have heard me discuss, at great length no doubt, the movie Serenity and its origin television show Firefly. Some of you I have been able to persuade to rent or even buy the show and or the movie. But there are those who are either frugal or in a snug money situation who are still missing out on the adventures of our Big Damn Hero's in their Big Damn Movie! Well, here’s your chance to see it for free. HBO is airing Serenity September 9th at 6PM. This is your opportunity to experience an excellent move at no extra cost. I only ask one thing in return. When you do watch it and love it as much as I do, send this email out to your friends, family and people you haven’t spoken to in forever(sorry),change the date to the next airing and help spread the signal.
It’s this kind of word of mouth that we need to get Universal's attention and help us achieve our ultimate goal: A Big Damn Trilogy. The link to all of the showings of the movie is here

I thank you in advance for your help!

Again, a thought. Be well, All!

I just got all excited and flipped through 900 channels simply to find out... I DON'T HAVE HBO! Oh well. I'll send it to my friends anyhow.

---------------------------------------

When you can't run, you crawl, and when you can't do that you sit still and watch episodes of Firefly.

Thank you for the info, Girlaskew.

I have the DVD (two), of course, but I've been waiting for Serenity to show up on a high definition broadcast.

Great! I was brought into the 'Verse after Serenity's recent run on Cinemax and got a little worried when I saw it wasn't scheduled anytime soon - nice to see it's getting a stretch on HBO (especially on several HBO channels...hbo2, hbo zone, hbo family, hbo latino)

If you get the timing right, it's possible to watch the marathon on Sci-Fi and finish off the day with the BDM in the evening on 9/18 - Shiny!

Hi CarolJude,

WHAT? HBO ONDEMAND *FREE* to HBO channels viewers!!!

Don't have HBO. But I always figured
people had to pay 1.99 or something to see in
OnDemand.

Can you explain how exactly the OnDemand feature
works so that people could include that in their emails.

Maybe Browncoat HBO viewers can get HBO and Cinemax to leave Serenity in the
On-Demand queues after the initial run.

Then Firefly....

You know...I've always thought that if any network were to restart the series, HBO makes the most sense. Their business model isn't based on how many people watch the show day-to-day, but rather how many new subscribers a show brings in. I imagine that if HBO announced they were going to restart Firefly, a whole mess of new subscribers would add HBO just to see it...

If you have HBO then you have access to any HBO programming available on OnDemand. You press "OnDemand" on your remote and the menu comes up for OnDemand, you navigate to the HBO section and select what you want to watch. I don't think you can queue selections (at least, I haven't been able to find a menu command that does that yet - you probably can if you have that particular cable company's 'Digital VCR' feature that lets you watch anything, any time.)

Good Plan

But, if you have HBO invite friends to your home and have a viewing Shindig. If you don't have HBO invite yourself to a friends house so you can view it at their house, and bring Chinese take outs. What are friends for?

Serenity in HBO is a great way to introduce new folks to the 'Verse. Viewing parties are wonderful ideas, and contacting people you know to give them the heads up is another good guerilla marketing strategy.

To add some more ammo to our arsenal, I've created a couple of web banners for spreading the word. These are offered for anyone to use if they like.

We really do want to make the most of Serenity on HBO. It's great for bringing in new fans... but also remember that high ratings will go a long way to demonstrating to Universal that the 'Verse has a healthy, growing audience eager for MORE!

OK, I am a real-life viewer who never knew Firefly existed. I watched the movie on HBO a few days ago

The day before yesterday, I found out totally by accident that it was based on a TV series that I had never heard of. How did I find out? Well, I went to amazon.com and they have an offer to download a free TV show to promote their Unbox feature. One of the choices is the series Firefly and I recognized the people in the picture as being from the movie.

I downloaded the episode "Serenity" and in all honestly I liked it much better than the movie. The film was OK I guess, but it sometimes seemed like they were throwing too much new information at me... I had no idea who these "reavers" were or why the crew knew River and the doctor. It all made much more sense after I watched the show and realized that we were already supposed to know all that from the show.

So, now I am officially hooked. I downloaded two more episodes and am planning to watch them when I get a chance. It's a shame that I never even heard of this series when it was on. I probably would have liked it and watched it if it had been promoted AT ALL.

This is exactly what we're hoping that showing the film would do. It is all Browncoats dream that your experience happens over and over and that new people are brought into the fold every day. You'll have to trust Joss on the movie's cohesiveness. He had a lot of people to cater to, and I think he balanced the fact that some people were not familiar with the story and would need some catchup, and that some people had ravaged all of the series and needed a fix (namely, Browncoats). Somebody will be along to officially welcome you here, but I would like to unofficially do it. You know, on the sly.

I just whached It in HDTV. Prety cool, can see a lot more then on the normal verson. I got comcasts substatute for T-vo, so of corse I recorded it. I herd from somebody who may or may not know what there talking about that there going to make more firfly on HBO. I think that would be cool it is deffently HPO worthy, not like some of the other crap you see on TV. But where I herd it from was so unreliable I can't say for sure, Althouw If thay show it on HBO you can buy all the new sesons at BORDERS or something. Kinda funny if they make anothetr seson of firefly, the complet seres box will be a dud.

But FireFly is just too good to not make more of, the only problom is no one herd of it untill sernaty but people are staring to wake up.

Hi all - another new convert checking in here.

Yes, the movie Serenity on HBO caught me. I had caught the end of it previously and had been absolutely enamored of the music that was used as the crew repairs Serenity near the end of the film. This as much as anything caused me to set the VCR to tape it when it came on a couple days later - once I was finally able to sit down and watch it in its entirety, I was blown away.

Being a longtime sci-fi fan, I had heard OF Firefly, but as it initially appeared on Fox, I never saw it (sorry, I absolutely hate FoxTV). Something about the movie seemed familiar though and it didn't take much searching to realize the connection between the series and the movie. Once that happened, I knew I had to see it all, so I went right out and bought both the series and the movie on DVD.

After watching the "entire" series, and the movie more than once, I'm left with one unanswered question: How did the Alliance get their hands on River again? I was thinking that the episode "Objects in Space" would answer that question, but as you know, River didn't leave Serenity with the bounty hunter...leading me to believe that the episodes that would have been made to complete the first season would have ended up with River's capture and return to the Alliance laboratory, perhaps.

Regardless of all that, I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and am with all of you in bewilderment at the absolute idiocy of network TV executives that obviously know and care absolutely nothing about the shows that are produced by their respective companies - all they see or care about is Neilsen ratings. IMHO, in todays marketplace, Neilsen is about as good a barometer of TV viewership as sticking your finger up your butt to determine its depth.

Also, I'm curious how SciFi Channel became involved in all of this. Did they buy the rights to Firefly from Fox? Or did they strike a syndication deal?

I'm sorry, but I have little hopes for Firefly if SciFi gets their hands on it. You think Fox screwed the pooch with the way they failed miserably in promoting the series, showing episodes out of order (I read that they held back the PILOT episode in order to USE it for some Christmas special? W.T.F.???), neglecting to air 3 complete episodes? Seems to me that they intended for the series to fail from the start.

As for SciFi....Look at what they have been doing. Take the premiere series Stargate SG1 and cancel it while it's still going strong, yet retain their weak spinoff, Stargate Atlantis (presumably to produce enough episodes to syndicate it). Tear apart the Friday night lineup and plug in the crapfest Dr. Who remake, BSG (their ONLY worthwhile series) and repeat both all evening. To top it all off they produce an absolutely ludicrous "reality" show about being a bogus "SuperHero", and run WRESTLING??? WTF do these guys smoke?

Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent there, but as much as I have become to love this show, I have low hopes for it on network TV. If it is to live again I am sincerely hoping for HBO to pick it up. They have no SciFi in their lineup of "original programming", but I'm doubtful. (Note how they recently cancelled Deadwood.)

If you remember, SG1 began on Showtime, and from the pilot episode I had high hopes that this would be a series to break all the rules - that full-frontal scene with Vaitiare Bandera made me hopeful - but of course every episode after that clocked in at 45 minutes for an hour-long show meaning that it was destined to syndication on network TV...killing all hopes of having something not constrained by puritanical American TV rules concerning language and nudity.

Then, of course, by the 3rd or 4th season Showtime tired of it and promptly sold it to SciFi. At least for the SG1 fans, SciFi did continue production, but now I am left wondering why they even bothered. They obviously care nothing for the genre - they are just out to make a buck and they'll do it any way they can even if it means pulling a MTV and completely abandoning the theme of their own logo.

Ya, I guess I'm a little pissed off at TV and those that run it.

In any case, I'm happy to have finally experienced Firefly and be one of those that "get it".

ProtoDewd, the part at the beginning of the movie is a flashback, well actually a hologram of the original rescue of River from the Alliance. It can be a little confusing I know, but that was just the Operative watching that hologram to try and understand everything he could about River.

Welcome to the site, Godsmackserenity.

I like that song by Godsmack by the by.

If only is an ongoing phrase from Browncoats. We wish for more constantly, alas, it is not to be.
At least in series form. That's long gone and to be treasured as the gem it was. There's been a few rumblings lately ( some think it's awesome and are happy, others are very cynical and think it's absolutely not possible )of a mini series possibility since Joss is once again working for FOX and getting a second season for DollHouse.

I'm in the middle. I'll take more if we get it but I'm happy with what we got and very happy to be part of this community and fandom.

Have you checked out The Can't Stop the Serenity screenings? Go to www.cantstoptheserenity.com and check out what's going on.

Have you heard of The Kids Need to Read Foundation? It's a charity to help get books to children who need them that Nathan Fillion started with his author friend, PJ Haarsma. It's run by Browncoats and full of lots of energy and love. Come see us at www.kidsneedtoread.org. Also, our community forum has a subforum full of news about Nathan, Alan and the doin's of the genre entertainment world. We'd love to have you stop by.

It's at http://www.pjhaarsma.com/forum/index.php

There's lots of fun to be had here in the 'Verse while we wait for more news.

Oh, and I haven't done this in a long long time, but here...

You gotta be suited up right.
