Howdy all,

I'm brand spanking new to the site. I first saw Serenity in 2005 on DVD from Netflix and LOVED it. The only reason I heard about FireFly was because I watched the Extras portion of the Serenity DVD and it was pure luck that I found out about all the BrownCoats worldwide. Needless to say it was a string of fortunate events that led me to y'all. I recently purchased the DTI DVD, the hi-def Serenity DVD (already owned the normal one), the companion book and a CD from the Bedlam Bards. Having not gotten a chance to watch the Hi-Def DVD yet, is there a blurb on the "Extras" portion or flyer in the case that would lead someone to this web-site or another FF/S web-site? If not how hard would it be to make that happen as I'm sure it could be argued to whoever profits from the disc sales that doing so would not do anything to hurt sales but would result in a larger fan base and thus more sales? I'm damn hapy to be here and want just as much as any one for Joss' story to continue to be told. Which brings me to my next point, I want to say a big thank you to 11th Hour and her handbill posters. Since I have been here in the bad place, I have managed to recruit more than a few new fans and am currently in the process of trying to turn them from fans to 'activists' if you will (using the whole loaner DVD set and holding off on the 4th disc making them buy their own set etc..) The Firefly story resonates with us over here (people stuck in a bad place with just each other) and it's a captive audience ripe for the pickin so I will do as much as I can while I am here. I saw the web site for FireFly2 and the survey they are conducting and was curious what the "official 'fan' view" was of the site. Is it a legit effort with a chance of success? I also noted that the 3 film contract with the actors expires this fall. Does that make the time between now and then the "do or die" time? Where exactly does the effort sit? I had always thought that with a fan base such as this, the chance of a "Viewer/fan financed" was a possibility given the proper planning and organazation. Kinna like buying stock in the series in terms of revenue sharing. Sounds like what the "FireFly 2" group has in mind. Is it and do y'all think it will work? If not, what is Plan B? It's always good to have a plan B unlike some other recently suggested Plans having to do with a number around the 21,500 mark. Stay Safe and keep the faith! Brett

Hello also from Iraq!

Oddly enough, I've managed to make a few converts while I've been here too! Then again, the show kinda sells itself, so, it's not that hard to do.

Be careful and safe while you're here!

Too soon to tell if Serenity will continue, but I 'spect it will. If Universal smells a profit in a sequel, it'll happen. Don't know about the grass roots approach, but I'd personally contribute.

Welcome home to our shiny ship, BrownCoatBrett!
You're #25310 on the crew here, and we're right
pleased to have you aboard.
Looks as if some of the traditional welcoming
rituals have yet to be observed. Surely somebody
will be along soon with a virtual browncoat for
you, and a drop of the Dew.
I hand out the fresh strawberries when they can
be found, and also the Mudder's Milk.
And here's an invite to come up to the galley
to question the buffet -- hot cheese just being
put on the table.

Fans of another show tried to finance a comeback
years ago, and it was a mess.
What we need is lots of DVDs in circulation, and
other behavior which would show the fine folk who
own the rights to the show that the fan base is
big enough to make it worth spending the $ on an
expensive show.

Saaahhhweet! Thanks for the warm welcome all! I'm heading home on my 2 weeks leave tomorrow but I'm leaving my discs here as I am breaking two new sets of fans in, one with instructions to pass disc one on to another recruit when they are done. Got a lil handbill distro action going on too. Are there any other sites besides 11th Hour's that has "marketing/recruiting" handbills for DL? I'm pumped cause not only will I get to spend 2 weeks with my wife but I'll get to watch the DTI movie and Serenity Hi-Def DVD I got (she got me the Hi-def DVD add on player to the X-box to play it, that's a good woman right der!).
What was the series that tried the viewer financed revival that fell flat? Any word on what is involved with the FireFly2 effort? Take care y'all and keep up the good work. Does word that Summer Glau accepted a show at Fox in the Terminator genre bode poorly for us?

Welcome BrownCoatBrett! First let me say I'm glad you found us, and hope you continue to be safe in your duties.

I'd also like to offer you a glass of Irish Whiskey to drink in celebration of your impending leave Safe journey!

The plan of action for us is still just spreading the word, which you seemm to have well covered there.

Universal and F*X have both been getting kinda snotty lately in regard to fan things (the items for sale and most currently vids on YouTube) which is bad but good as they are doing more of their own marketing which is something not normally done for something the suits don't believe have a future.

Welcome home again!

Ahoy, BCB!
Have a wonderful leave, and get your fabulous
wife to join us aboard our shiny ship at fff.net.

I think it was Star Trek whose fans went nuts and
collected a bunch of money. Somewhere on this
very board I believe there was a thread which
went over it.

>Does word that Summer Glau accepted a show at Fox in the Terminator genre bode poorly for us?
We want our Big Damn Heroes working and happy so
they'll stay in the business instead of going
home to Podunk and joining their family's businesses,
or whatever. Contracts which held them available
for more FF/S are due to expire fairly soon, anyway.
Summer at Fox may not mean that much in terms of
tying her up...it's Fox, after all. Who knows if
the pilot will ever be shown, or all the eps in their
proper sequence?
For her career I don't really want her locked into
some rump-kickin' female characterization. She's
too able to do other things, and the rest of the
world should know.
Last night she was 1/3 of a harem on Las Vegas.
Heh.

Okay, will do on continuing to spread the word. Just wondering how much of a "sense of urgency" there was. An' if me crew mates say to just keep pushin the signal than thats what I'll do! It also is rather shiny that the 4 disc set is only $20 at Amazon. Is that the normal price or is it some sort of special? If it is a special then I need to apply more pressure on some of my cheapskate friends to buy their sets before the price goes back up. And don't get me wrong I am all about supporting the BDHs in other work (have Jewel or Alan done anything recently?) I was just trying to read into the tea-leaves to see if anything could be discerned regarding FF/S. Y'all take care and I'll type at ya next from the comfort of my own home. Y'all rock!

Probably not; if another revival occurs, chances are good that most or all of our Big Damn Heroes will be willing to make room on their schedules, if at all possible. All of 'em love Firefly/Serenity, and would find a way.

The secret, to me anyway, is to not think of Firefly/Serenity as the next big thing, as the new Star Wars or Star Trek; think of it as "The Little Engine That Could."

And don't forget--we've already won; the Big Damn Movie got made, and it's winning new converts every day. "We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Here's hoping all of you over there get to come home soon. Keep safe in the meantime!

It's great to hear that you're spreading the word over there -- you're an admirable Browncoat, indeed. It makes sense that the BDH and their adventures resonate with our troops, now that you mention it, Brett.

Jewel was on one episode of Stargate Atlantis already and now she's been signed for a reocurring role, we hear (there's a thread about that somewhere here). Morena was on SG1 for a few episodes. Don't know if he's still doing it, but Alan was in Spamalot, last I heard.

Oh...and be sure to check out Nathan's blog on MySpace for some entertaining letters from our captain.

Two TV shows (Capitol Law and and one ep of CSI)
Two movies released last year (Knocked up and Ice Age 2: the Meltdown)
And has two more movies that are completed/in post-production that haven't been released (Death at a Funeral and 3:10 to Yuma)

And according to IMDB Jewell is currently doing a movie called The Tribe.

Hey, BrowncoatBrett, welcome to FFF.net. You've got a lot of good questions, and folks have been answering. We want more Firefly. Joss has been saying that there is nothing in the works right now, but he has a lot of projects in his mind if the people with money approach him. He's no longer on the Wonder Woman project, so it becomes a stronger possibility.

We are doing our best to spread the word by introducing family and friends to the 'Verse. There are all sorts of ideas of how to get the word out at the Guerilla Marketing threads.

There are a lot of talented folks here on this site that make pics and banners that can be used for introducing others. Just make sure you ask them. Those can be found in the Blue Sun Room.

The actors' three year contracts were to make a trilogy of Serenity if it was successful. It didn't make enough in the theaters, but the DVD sales are increasing all of the time. The rumors that have been going around is that if at all possible the actors and actresses would be there to make a seguel. If they are in the midst of another movie or TV series, it would be difficult, but anything is possible. I'm optimistic, and they rave about how great it is to work with Joss.

Can't Stop Serenity!

Edit: Ooops, I forgot to mention the 76th. A group of Browncoats will be marching at Dragon*Con 2007 in September at Atlanta as the 76th Battalion of the Independent Army. It's been a lot of fun getting it organized, and we're hoping that it will bring a bit of attention to the Browncoat community. If you want more information, you can go to:

Well, I made it home safe and sound for my 2 weeks leave. Got to watch my DTI disc that just arrived which was awesome. Also, had a buddy and his wife over yesterday where we watched the HD DVD Serenity. I guess you could say that in terms of converting new browncoats, a screening of the Serenity Pilot is a better choice than the movie. I hadn't actually watched the movie since the first time I saw it and it drove me to find the Firefly DVDs. Now, I can tell that in terms of a general audience, the BDM appears to have been made more for the fans and may seem a little intimidating to non-SCI-FI fans. SOOO next time I try to convert people I will start them on the Firefly series and then I can feed them the Left Behind Comic, then the movie then intro them to FFF.net. Just wanted to share my experience and re-state that the FireFly disc 1 is more likely a better recruitment tool on non-sci-fi fans than the BDM. I do have one question, does the Blue Sun room have ready made MySpace banners? and if not where would y'all suggest that I go to find some?

Great to be back, if even for 2 weeks.

Can't stop the signal.

Yep, it's good to start with Firefly when recruiting. There are lots of Browncoats that started with the movie, but especially with non Sci-Fi folks it's good to start with the Serenity episode.

As for the banners, I did find this post:
"Ok so it turns out it's very simple to post banners on myspace! You just open a free photobucket account, upload your image from your computer, and then copy and paste the TAG code into someone's comment box. Easy!"

You can get the photobucket account at: http://photobucket.com/

Here's the Official Serenity Flash Banners that were posted by Haken:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=66

Has anyone shared how to access things on FFF.net? Go to: http://www.fireflylabs.ca/misc/fffsearch.html and make sure the "Fireflyfans.net" dot is selected. You can enter "banners" and click on Google search. It will give you all of the posts that say banners on the FFF.net site. I hope that helps.

Welcome back to the States.

Welcome BCBrett, and thank you for your service and sacrifice.

You've asked about FireFly2, by which I assume you mean Ace Underhill's Firefly Season 2 website that is currently just a survey, right? As you can probably surmise from the responses, it's a non-event at this point. Long time fans have been pretty vigilant about credibility-testing any would-be saviors, and the original incarnation got put through the ringer (and deservedly so, IMO):

Everyone decides for themselves, but the project does not have the collective support of the organized fan community.

Thanks for all the kind words. I just got back from leave and was greeted with rumors of an extension so I've got the "Hold till we get back" thing down pat. In better news it was fun to bring the news of the Serenity: SE's summer release back. All the BrownCoats over here we're pumped to hear that and I am talking up the pre-order stuff. Is it available for pre-order yet? That and I am circulating my DTI DVD to the hardcore fans and can't wait to get it back b/c I haven't gotten to check out all the Extra Features yet. Also heard from the wife that they were showing FireFly on an HD-TV channel. OMG!! I can't wait till I can watch the show in HD. Sounds like a good reason to release the FireFly DVDs in HD too! We've gotta be solidly in the black for profit by now, yet no rumors of sequel talk yet huh? Oh well, here's hopin!

River: Storm's getting worse.
Mal: We'll pass through it soon enough.
