OK, we're all pleased as punch that the 2-disc special edition is coming out

But what should we do with all the copies of Serenity we currently own and cherish? I was thinking that come July there will be a lot of older copies going unplayed and this could be a great opportunity to get it out there to the masses

Personally, I'll be getting the new edition and be looking for a good home for the prevous version. Aside from giving it away to someone who "might" like it or donating it to the local library, what other options are out there?

On a side note: Do you think that Universal will be looking at the performance of this new addition in retlation to a sequel, or do I dare say trilogy?

I'll probably keep mine unless the extras that are on the old one are also on the new one as well. If they are then I am sure I can find a friend to give it too. Or maybe a complete stranger on the street.

How about sending it to military personnel overseas?

Yes! Good idea!

And hospitals, long term care centers, or community homes.

You will be amazed how much they can use some donated movies. My cousin had a bad accident years ago and was in a living in a rehab center for 3 months. All she can do was watch movies and I donated all my old VHS tapes at the time.

It is not like those places have a lot of extra money for movies.

All great suggestions. Here in my town we have Middleway House, a shelter and counseling center for abused women and their children. I intend to donate both the BDM and the Series to them. The Library here has 7 copies of the BDM (all checked out, with a waiting list; Yay!) and 4 copies of the Series Box Set (ditto for the waiting list, Yay again!). I believe the Hospital has both; not sure about local nursing home facilities.

Hey TDBrown,

From my experience when I once worked in a DVS, they do not take movies with any type of volience. No PG or PG-13.

Maybe try the Nursing homes? Just wanted to give you a "heads up". Give the shelter a call anyway, okay?

But Thank You so much for thinking of these women & children. What a true Browncoat you are!

Thank you, Spacegirl. It's nothing, really. Middleway House has been my "charity of choice" for awhile now. Last year I held a midnight screening of the BDM at a Video Store and raised $70 for them. It seemed like a more local and immediate way to support women's rights.

I'll take your advice, though. I see your point about the violence and all, though Mal "sticking it" to Atherton Wing is mighty Inspirational, in my book! lol

Now me, I'm clingy, so I'll most likely keep my edition anyway. I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get a hold on the SE over here in Germany. Keep your fingers crossed. Fortunatly I'm also generous, so me holding on to my own copy won't keep me from buying others that I can give to my friends and the like.

Every fear has a history.

I agree, all. If I get a new Serenity movie (IF, mind. I'm poor), then I'll probably give away my old 'un- either to rehab, Brookhaven Hospital (Where me Ma works), or some other type a needy-folk place.

IF - and that's a big if - it will go into the collection, not get sold at the next library sale for a buck.

I'm planning on doing this with mine if I can part with it. If the SE is as shiny as we all hope it will be I should be able to part with this one.

I'm gunna get the special addition... I had all the episodes that were aired on VHS, then my parents got me the boxed series for christmas when it came out... went and saw the movie 2 times with my pa, the first of which was the day it came out, then another 5 or so times (in theaters) with friends and such, got my dad into the series after the movie, got the movie the day it came out on DVD and planning on getting the special edition, but I am rather clingy, I will probably use the BDM original dvd to give out to friends and such, get 'em into the 'verse =) Still need to get a copy of the "Those Left Behind" comics, if I can find 'em anywere *shrugs*

If you are interested in donating dvds to military personnel, two good places to work with can be found at www.dvds4troops.org or www.operationdvd.us

I've got 3 copies of the BDM now, one for me, one going to the library, and 1 I got from the netflix previously-viewed sale that will get sent overseas soon.

Thank you, In2theBlack! Just the info I needed!

Donating DVD's whether new or old is a wonderful thing to do.
I had a nice experience today and it shows how this whole sharing FF/S works.

We have a customer who is a trucker and he takes many DVD's out on the road with him for layovers and downtime. He's been trading and sharing DVD's with me for some time...and recently I slipped a copy of the Serenity DVD in my returns to him with a note that it was a gift and for him to let me know what he thought. He called me today, raving about River and Mal and where the hell did I find this!

So I told him about Firefly and now he's stopping in the next big town and buying Firefly! Convert made. And he'll share with others, I'm sure of that.

I've heard first hand from military folks who've had Firefly shared with them that Mal on his little ship, fighting for his family ( crew ) was an inspiration to them. I cannot think of a better gift to share with folks so far away from home... who are out in the black themselves so to speak.

Every summer we go to a resort that shows movies every night on their closed circuit set-up. I'm going to leave them a copy to show in their rotation.

Old movies make great coasters .... oh, wait thats those AOL discs .... keep mixin' them up. *laughs like Krusty the Clown*

Also .... Donating them to a college club of some sort works too

I have donated Firely and Serenity to my local library and the venue appreciated my contribution.
