If you plan to buy at least 2 copies don't buy them all at the same place or at the same time. I think it might count less for a sequel if you buy 3 copies at amazon.com or at a store then if you buy a copy at amazon at 2:00 then at 2:15 buy another copy from amazon.com. Does anyone agree or disagree?

I don't know. I doubt it counts for a sale.

Don't get me wrong I'll be buying a few copies myself. I just want to maximize the effect for us getting a sequel. I have al ready bought 7 copies of Serenity. I but the one I got the day it came out, a second copy because my sister stole my copy (both widescreen) and a full screen copy to copy to my Ipod, The UMD version, the HD-DVD version, a gift to a friend and a used copy for 5 bucks I couldn't let sit on the shelf. So I really don't need any more I just want to get more Serenity.

I agree with you dataless, IMO we need a big spike on the first few days and high numbers for a lengthy time after that. I'll be getting at least 3 copies - they're excellent gifts. Will buy my first via advance order and subsequent copies a week or two apart. Right now though, its #2 on my priority list.

For me, priority # 1 is to help make the Serenity Now screenings a HUGE success - we need lots of non-Browncoats to attend. Believe it or not there are billions who've never seen the movie & I'll be doing my bit to reduce that number, even if its only by a couple.

Browncoats, are you content to see Firefly in 2nd place or would you rather see it at #1. It won't happen unless you vote.

I hope that we get really big Numbers for the DVD. It is the best way to get Universal to make Serenity 2.

I was thinking of running a Screening of Serenity but I live about 2 hours from New York on long Island. I don't feel like going into the city. We have a very nice theater near me and I think it would be cool to have Serenity screening because the last time Serenity was in the theater it was in the smallest theater and left after 2 weeks but I think I'm too close to NYC.

Do you have any reasons for that assumption? From your name, I'm guessing no?

A sale is a sale. Seems to me, it's just another tally on a chart, regardless of if you buy 2 at a time, or just one.

If they track how many multiple copies are sold to one person then the studios might see 2 copies being bought by one person as one sale or that one the two copies don't mean as much to them 2 different people each buying a copy of their movie. It doesn't effect the money they take in but it might effect how they view the Film property. I have no facts or basis for this other than they track every single bit of information about DVD and TV they can and why shouldn't they they are trying to make as much money as they possibly can. If they think that they have more fans of Serenity than they currently do then they might want to make 7 more films and and a few more series. If the bottom line tells them that the value of the property is worth the very costly expenditure then they will make at least one more movie. How much did Serenity cost, somewhere between 40 to 80 million dollars? They want feel like the money they spend will be returned to them as quickly as possible and if I can make them think that my copies were bought by different fans then I feel like I've done as much as I can to help them see that it is worth it.

Don't think it works that way. When they get the sales figures, it's not broken down like that. Strict sales numbers matter, not number of transactions.

Here's the Art Work for the BDCollector'sEdition

As for myself, I've already preordered two copies from Universal, for $19.98 each, plus shipping. Much cheaper than the eventual price, and it gets Universal's Attention, right away!

Operation Signal Boost will be starting June 1st, and we'll be encouraging folks to buy at least one copy from Universal, to send a message to them. Hope y'all will consider doing this.

I don't think it matters, and here's why:

The way these things work: universal makes the thing and ships it to walmart - those are the sales figures they use. We buying it from walmart, then, merely encourages walmart to buy more, which is what increases sales.

There's no way walmart + 100 other companies are going to gather that kind of information and submit it to...anywhere, really. That is NOT to say, however, that walmart might not release their own sales figures, as they very well might.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding of how it works.

I'm going to have to agree with Ath here...all these companies really care about is the cashy money coming their way - they don't care if one person buys 3 copies, they only care that 3 copies were sold.

You are close...but "real" and "final" sales figures are figured on the back end, not "front loaded" as you have surmised.

Say Walmart orders, and receives, 1000 copies. They sell 800 copies. Those 200 "extra" copies can be pulled for returns for credit. Once those "extra copies" go back to Universal, (who turns around and resells the extras to a clearance type place,) then Walmart has "sold" 800 copies, not 1000 copies.

A sale is a sale - but not all sales are created equal. Yeah, Amazon has "sold" 1.2 million copies of the new Harry Potter. But they are selling them just above cost. Scholastic (Harry Potter's publisher) understands this is the cost of business. But a copy sold at a small bookstore makes more money than one sold at Conglomo bookstore. If Amazon buys 1.2 million copies for, say, $12 a piece, Small bookstore pays $14 a piece for the same book, as they are not buying the quantity Amazon buys.

I, for one, plan to buy a copy of Serenity from Best Buy, one from Target, and one from my local video store. Both spreading the wealth, and supporting a small retailer.
