I was thinking of producing a calender (non commercial) , that could be downloaded and printed by all browncoats and displayed proudly in workplaces, stores etc...

This allow some Firefly quotes to get into a wider circulation, and would also keep the cause current because it would be headed 'Firefly 2007' , 'Firefly 2008' etc....

The idea is that there is a page per month - so I need 12 great images and 12 of the best quotes.

I'm also wondering about the whole copyright issue - as it would be entirely non-commercial would there be any problems - or would I have to approach the powers that be for permissions etc....

Any thoughts....

If you use images from anything that you don't own (e.g. BDM, BDS, etc) without explicit written permission, that is copyright violation. Also, please note that the US (at least) is currently working to make this offense *far* more serious (if it hasn't already). So, I'd really recommend /not/ using said images.

That being said, there are lots of talented artists around here that would probably be able to help out in creating some images for you.

Also, make sure that exactly zero money changes hands. That one could land you in a whole heap of trouble.

Good luck

Hi,

Yes I think copyright is a big (and important) issue.
I don't plan this as any form of money making enterprise, simply a fan orientated fun thing!

I'm making up a sample for this month(May) - using an image which was generated by an artist.

It's looking ok - I'll post it here later today to see what folks think - then take it from there.

SHAMELESS

Hey, anybody happening with this? I, for one, would LOVE a Firefly calendar, so... how's it coming?

------------------------------------------
RPG launcher bought in third world country illegally - $10
Landmines - $50 per
Attack/track dogs bred 1st class - $250-500 per
Highpowered assault rifles - $600 per
The look on your face when I show up on your doorstep with a bigfoot - ... Priceless

I love my captain

You told me about this when I respnded to your other thread but I never got back to you. Sorry about that. I am a notorious procrastinator. I would still love to participate though.
Can I still help?

Are you assigning months or is it just a cool picture deal?
I need details and I'm too lazy to hunt up your original thread for info.

MISSTRESSAHARA

I made a Will Smith calendar for a friend once. Used a program called Design Pro that had all kinds of templates from CD covers and labels, calenders, cards, etc.

All I did was find pictures of Smith (mainly scanned from magazine articles) and sorted them by month then added them to the calander template and chose different fonts colors and such (played with it) Then I printed them out on plain 8 by 11 printing paper and took it to a place that lamenated the whole thing (not cheap but not expensive) and they added a binder edge so she could prop it up. Worked great and she loved it. This was in the 1990's.

I think you can go to Ginko's and other printing sites to get them laminated, or you can by a laminating kit and do it yourself (it's best if you want to preserve it). So long as you have a way of putting the picture with the calander months (there are art software you can download for free) you can easily make your own Firefly calander for little money.
