Look at the Olympics that are going on now, some of those athletes must know they are probably going to leave empty handed, but the thing is they still go and fight to the death. If you dont at least try and give it your best shot then you will never know what might of been. This is our chance to show Joss whedon and the cast of firefly along with the networks that the fans of firefly are still here and still want the story to continue. If we remain silent and do nothing then nothing will happen, but if we push this then maybe just maybe it will cause a little spark somewhere and eventually turn into an inferno. Everything has a starting point and who knows maybe this is that starting point.

Just a couple of thoughts:

First, after FOX gets all these gloves, they'll want to donate them somewhere. And that would probably be a medical hospital or clinic. Those doctors won't touch them if they think they're contamminated. So sending a pair of gloves at a time is probably a bad idea. It's better to send an unopened box of 100.

Second, if this gets the kind of turnout we are hoping for, we're looking at maybe hundreds of thousands of gloves. Any medical distributor or supplier will have a hard time with an order that large without at least a few weeks notice. We should have someone working with the manufacturer and giving them a head's up.

Last, as someone says, it makes sense to have a central person coordinating this, order them all at once, and have a single shipment to show up on the desired date. Preferably with enough forewarning and communication that the FOX execs know what these gloves are supposed to mean.

Exactly^^^, otherwise we're all just 'touched' fans that gather like pack animals and aren't taken very seriously.

And then, about what Sickdude said, it's a great idea having the gloves arrive in the condition necessary to allow them to be donated but how does that work as a representation of each one us who would have supposedly sent a separately postmarked response which would much better speak to our numbers?

Remember the $ thing isn't all it's about. Remember how all that fan money collected to save Enterprise went south (it WAS enough to film another season) and had to be refunded because they still wouldn't do it.....

Oh, and also, i'd be more than willing to chip in for a domain name (savefirefly.com, or something like that) but would an actual domain name give the movement any distinct advantages (as opposed to just savefirefly.atspace.com)? I don't think that we really need to coordinate with companies or any of that. Jericho was grassroots, I believe it was anyways. Everyone just mailed them in on their own. If we were to coordinate with companies and one big shipment it would take longer since we would have to get people to donate to us versus going out and buying a pair of blue med gloves and mailing them in. We could easily encourage people to put in a note saying "save firefly" or of course "you cant stop the signal".

On another note, here's a sample email I wrote up that we could start sending to everyone we know:

I do actually think that "savefirefly.com" draws more attention than "savefirefly.atspace.com". There are also limitations on file sizes with the free site. I'm totally willing (and planning) to buy the domain myself. It's about $47/year.

Any help with that would of course be welcome, but I'm more than happy to devote my own money toward the cause.

Okay, the forums are set up, and can be found here: http://savefirefly.forumotion.net/forum.htm and also linkable from http://savefirefly.atspace.com It's pretty rough right now (you'd be surprised how long it took me to get this far). But I'll get it lookin' pretty shiny soon.

I suggest we move conversation about our plans to the new forums. As we go, I'll add more forums as necessary.

I am very much open to ideas and suggestions. If there's something you think should be on the site, or anything at all, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

from what I understood it was everyone should mail in a pair of gloves. I will hand out some to my friends and family and ask them to mail them to an address on a certain day when the details have been ironed out. Of course I will provide the envelopes and postage to my friends who need it.

Here's something I was just thinking about.

Right now it sounds like we're gunna try for a September 20th shipping date, but why don't we wait till November 11th, the day the box set comes out on bluray. I figure that waiting an extra 6 weeks will not only give us time to increase our numbers, but also that the combination of our effort and the bluray sails all on one day will have a bigger impact in the fox boardrooms then if those two events were to happen separately.

Just throwing it out there...any thoughts?
