I'm a new convert. The way I got hooked?

hulu.com

All the episodes in order, free. Short commercials

So, I was thinking. To get a sequel we need a lot of people to understand the characters. We need a lot of people to just start checking ff out. What better way than a campaign promoting hulu's firefly page. It's free, fast and easy. Some of them get hooked and it snowballs.

How much would it cost to advertise on other sci-fi shows on hulu?

How about google ad-words?

It's the 21st century, let's milk the interweb for all it's worth!

I also got hooked on Firefly through Hulu. When I saw there were only 14 episodes to watch, I was like what!?!? This was such a great show. And then I found out what happened. Darn Fox!

I have all ff episodes from hulu on my site as well as a few other shows like three seasons of lost in space, the original battlestar gallactica, and battlestar 1980.

I noticed in "Safe," that at the beginning they show previous scenes, and in one of them they show a scene of Jayne talking to Shepard Book on the bridge of Serenity from “Our Mrs. Reynolds.” Was “Our Mrs. Reynolds released before Safe on Fox, or was this a gaffe?

It was. They monkeyed with the order when Fox got nervous about the ratings.

Lucky Americans, Hulu's not available to anyone outside the states. Sucks that.

But regardless, does anyone know of ANY sites where people elsewhere can view all these shows?

I too got hooked through Hulu.

Now, this is an interesting tool by itself.

I think that what we should do is use the site for everything it's worth. Watch the episodes over and over. You know, try to raise its views and popularity.

The Browncoats are a strong fanbase. I think if we can get any Firefly episode on the frontpage somehow, as the most popular of all time, or most views for today, or something, that would be great publicity.

And of course, just spreading the show by showing it to everyone you know helps.

But anyway, Hulu records the number of views. If we can have Firefly episodes getting substantial numbers of views, then it will get someone's attention eventually.

So what do you guys think? I just play the episodes and mute them when I don't feel like watching, then I just go about my normal business and occasionally watch a little Firefly. I spend hours online, and if I can give a view to three or four Firefly episodes, I feel like I've done something.

There have been all sorts of discussions on this. There are so many things we can do, but buying the actual DVDs has always been a big one. Firefly on hulu is great, but we also need to remember to invest in the money maker for it.

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

YEP! It was the buying and selling of pirated copies of the aired show that prompted the DVD set to be made and sold (even FOX had to realize the cashy money and coin to be made!).

Then after the movie, the high number of DVDs sold got us a collector's edition in, relatively speaking, no time! :D

In my PERSONAL opinion, I think any good fan owns at least 2 DVD sets. One for personal use, one to loan and hook new fans with.

Alternatively, I've done the following:
I tell my would-be recruit to go buy it (and I direct them to the most affordable place to buy it; no sense in overpaying for it! *glares at stores like F.Y.E.*) and I GUARANTEE them that if they don't like it enough to keep it and watch it again (and again, and again...lol!) that I will buy it from them for what they paid for it. In 5 years, I never had to honor that guarantee.

Also, if you can afford to, just buy it for them. I did this to my dad who felt obligated to watch it because it was a gift...now he's an addict and loves to quote Jayne at me!

Interesting news...

Today (August 19th) Firefly was on the front page of Hulu in the big box with rotating shows.

Apparently it is brought to you by Best Buy.

How cool is that? Apparently someone at Best Buy thought that advertising Back to School supplies on the Firefly page on Hulu was front page material. Nice.

Huh - I always knew there was something special to like about BestBuy. 'Sides the wall-to-wall-to-rafters consumer electronics, that is.

As of midnight, Hulu has removed 9 of the 14 episodes of Firefly. Episodes 1-5 are still available. It appears that Fancast.com still has all 14 up though.

Must be making room on their server for the new shows this season?
That's a pity. It was nice to go watch it whenever I had a moment and I often left it on my computer so folks could see it on in my lobby. That's ok, I have the DVD's at my shop, I'll just fire those up.

I agree that the best thing to do to share Firefly with others is to buy the DVD set for them as a gift or share your extra set with them so they can enjoy it too. Perhaps they'll fall in love and buy a set too.
Either way it's money directly in Fox's pockets and money is the key as always.

Although I'd caution about thinking that making Firefly #1 on Hulu or most viewed on Fancast will have an effect on it's coming back. Only thing that will have an effect on that is if a studio chief at Fox wants to, or they sell the rights and someone else at a studio with money authority chooses to. Ain't happenin' anytime soon.

ISTARI

Guys, HULU is removing the pilot episode "Serenity" from its servers in, as of this writing, SIX HOURS.

NO MORE PILOT EPISODE ON HULU.

How dumb is that?

As of this writing, they are also going to remove the other episodes as well.

They are set to expire in this order:

Ep.1x02:"The Train Job" will expire on November 16th,
Ep.1x03"Bushwhacked" on November 23rd,
Ep.1x04:"Shindig" on November 30th, and
Ep.1x05:"Safe" on December 7th.

Why, Hulu? Why?

Hulu made it so easy for me to recommend Firefly to anyone. We have made them devoted fans and most have bought the DVDs as a result of falling in love with the series on Hulu. Thanks to Firefly, I even discovered that Hulu has an array of OTHER shows!

I also got hooked on Firefly thanks to Hulu.

What can we do about this, Browncoats?

Can we do something about this? A petition? A call to arms? A huge campaign?

I'm all ears, everybody.

/EDIT: Ok Browncoats, some friends have started an online petition! We need some support!

I received mail from hulu.com today that Our Mrs. Reynolds was added back to their queue and I watched the episode before I left for work.

Just checked out hulu's Firefly availability and it appears that they're only keeping 5 episodes at a time, but rotating them, so it's possible to still see the entire series. Just have to wait until they all come around.

It's great that new viewers are getting hooked by watching it on hulu, but, please, please, buy a copy if it turned you into a browncoat.

Only way it can re-light is if the network sees it makin' coin.
