I work at an advertising agency in Austin, TX doing print production on a mac. I came up with the idea to screen the pilot episode of Firefly in the conference room to my co-workers as a fun lunch-time gig.

My idea is to generate buzz and interest in not only the Firefly DVDs, but the upcoming Serenity DVD release. I sent out a meeting request via email, and 15 people will be attending next Thursday/Friday. I'm bringing snacks (if you feed them, they will come).

The other up-side is if I get other people hooked, I'll have more folks to discuss the 'Verse with 'stead of just the IT guys!

Thought I'd share this in case ya'll would think to do something similar. Will post results after the screening.

I've been showing the eps on my tv in my office since I got hooked, Hera. Not quite as organized as your meeting... and no snacks. Hmmm, I'd not considered the drawing power of food! Must reconsider!

But it works... I've converted quite a few folks and get comments from customers all the time.

And I get to watch my favorite show while I work and make new Firefly friends!

Hey FollowMal, that's cool. I started out showing the episodes to a friend of mine at lunch in my office (I have a cinema screen on my mac, oh golly, it's nice) but realized I was preaching to the converted.

What did you originally say to folks to get them to come watch?

My tv is on the shelf opposite the entry way... we work on cars and half of my office is the "waiting area". I really didn't have to say anything, just put the eps on and they came in and sat down and watched. Got lots of "Wow, is that show on tv?" and "Where can I get those?" and " How come this show isn't on tv now?" from folks.

Funny thing about Firefly.... all you have to do is show it to folks and they get hooked. We've had delivery guys "stay" for a awhile to "catch up paperwork" and watch an ep with me. It's loads of fun. All ages and genders get interested too. Lots of women wanna know.. "Who is the guy who plays Mal?!!!"
Young folks like the FX and the guys LOVE the western stuff.

We're a family business so I kinda don't show the eps that might be a little more for adults...( "Out of Gas", "War Stories", "Trash") on a regular basis. But when it's just us and the worker... we watch which ever one we want.

I hope to continue converting folks. Hey, toward Christmas, I'm gonna try your snacks idea. My daughter suggested fudge! Can't go wrong with Firefly and chocolate!

"Is it Christmas?" Mal

Oh my, that is brilliant! You're in a situation where tons of people can see the shows. I'm jealous.

And I'm also envious because every time I'm in a waiting room (car mechanic, car wash, whatever) it's always just network TV. Mind numbing.

Not only are you showing off Firefly, you're giving your customers and co-workers a commercial-free viewing experience. That is priceless.

I got the idea to make little itty bitty pamphlets (kinda like the ones that christians pass out everywhere ie grocery store etc.) it's got the dvd cover art on the front and I've actually had a few really good responses from it. I've also made some Serenity stickers and put them up everywhere I can. Phonebooths, telephone poles, etc.
