Does anyone have good pictures of the Independent's uniforms? I'm really interested in trying to make a costume(with help from my mom).

Knowing me, I'd probably go to Anime Weekend Atlanta dressed up like that and try to make one of my friends my war prisoner. Most likely a Fox Exec. hehehe...

Browncoats are the coolest fans I've ever seen.

Episode 11: "The Message" has some great shots of Mal and Zoe in uniform.

The gang stop over at a space station and take delivery of a very large crate with a body in it. The body turns out to be one of the guys they Mal and Zoe served with during the war. Things get predictably complicated from there...

The orginal pilote also opens with some good shots of the battle of Serenity valley. And If you want there is a website that sells the patch that Mal rips off of the sleeve of a fallen soldier.

www.Browncoatpatches.com

I ordered stuff from them earlier today. I've heard some good things about them though. Guess Ill find out in a week or so.

STARSONG

I put together a collection of screen captures for similar reasons.. they vary a little, and it's kinda hard to make some pieces out, but the basics seem to be --

Trousers and suspenders - just what Mal wears during the series. Exactly the same, near as I can tell. He kept his service trousers looks like. Suspenders are modified military issue.

Shirt -- I can't make out the bottom layer. Above that is a loose grey knit, used so far as I can tell for the sleeves only. A loose brown shirt is worn over that, with short unhemmed sleeves.

Over THAT is a red vest with 4 brownish horizontal stripes. I *presume* this is meant to represent some kind of flak vest. On top of that is a red scarf.

All of the materials are awful dirtied up, of course.

Mal wears a tannish thick fabric button coat with a red braid on the right shoulder and the "browncoat" patch. Neither Zoe nor Tracy wear this coat, though we see some unnamed soldiers wearing them in the battle scenes. I presume it's an NCO thing.

The gear varies widely after that.. all the Browncoats usually carry a shoulder bag for magazines and such, but the model varies widely. Just search ebay for a surplus "messenger bag" or similar, and it should work. You might customize it with leather or somesuch. Some wear fingerless gloves, but it's not universal. Most wear WWII US steel helmets, with (at least at Du Khang) a vertical stripe running all the way across the center. I *think* it's brown on green, though it's hard to tell with the color grading.

Weapons vary a LOT, but all are readily available in airsoft form. Our heroes carry at some point an HK G36, an HK UMP, and I believe a FAMAS at different times... even a plain ol' M4. Alliance carry British L-85s in "The Train Job" -- so basically, pick most any modern rifle, perhaps tart it up a bit if you like, and it'll look just fine.

And oh yes -- don't forget your can of beans!

What get's me is the number of folks that bring LIVE weapons to these conventions....and nobody seems to mind. I don't get it......I'd figure there'd be someone at the door with a sign saying "Please check your various weapons, pulse lasers, swords, bows, ion cannons, PPG's, Ninja stars, knives, axes, and lightsabers at the door. - The Management."

"HOLD IT!! WE ARE NOT LOST!!! No one said anything about being lost!! I'm just trying to get my bearings a little before we go any further - that's all. By the way, do you have the map on ya?" Josiah Greene
