I'm thinking about getting the HD version of Serenity. I already own the regular version (natch). Is it awesome seeing it in HD? Worth the purchase?

TIA.

Here's a review of the player, that's not so harsh:

And here's a couple of reviews of the disk itself:

I'm sure you can find even more with a bit of googling. i'll probably get it myself, since my main DVD player is on its last leg and i need a new DVD player anyway. Also, my TV is capable of 1080i, and i haven't put it to use yet. If you don't have a Hi-Def TV or DVD player, it's probably not worth the investment you would need to make to watch the Serenity HD DVD, but your mileage and disposable income may vary.

I'd stay away from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players. It seems to me that they'll both be outdated real soon. The size of storage keeps going up and the price keeps going down. By the time either Blu-Ray of HD-DVD becomes mainstream I'm guessing people will be buy/downloading their movies onto a HDD connected to your TV. That being said...I may...MAY get a HD-DVD player for my Xbox 360. It's supposed to be only about $100 or so (rumors) when it comes out so I could justify getting one for the short term at that price.

Theres a few problems with the hd-dvd and the blu-ray: Its hard to tell which ones going to win most companies have backed blu-ray while only two companies backed hd-dvd. A friend of mine works in that field and said not to buy hd-dvd because blu-rays gonna win. That sucks because Serenity is only offered on hd-dvd right now. Besides all that you have to buy the hd-dvd player($350-$500), you have to buy and hdmi cable($90-$200), the movie of course($30), and on top of that you have to make sure your tv is compatable otherwise you wont get your moneys worth. In my opinion I think you should do what I did, show your support and buy the hd Serenity movie, and hold off until we see if hd-dvd or Blu-ray wins. By that time the cost of the player itself should be a bit cheaper. Hope that helps.
