It isn't just one of your holiday games. You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter when I tell you a ship must have three different names"

OK, they aren't Jellicle cats, so three probably isn't necessary. Unless you need something to give the Alliance during those pesky inspections that is.

Has anyone figured out what they are going to name their ship? I've got a list as long as my forearm, so finding a name isn't the issue. It's picking one from many. :) I might be willing to part with one if you need inspiration.

One of the names I had on my list, but have subsequently decided against, was "Daigo Fukuryu-Maru", or "Lucky Dragon". OK, so it's Japanese and not Chinese but it does have a neat story behind it. In the original "Godzilla" it is the name of the boat that gets crushed by Big G early in the movie. The boat was named this because it is also the name of a civilian vessel, tuna fishing, that got caught in the blast of an atomic test on March 1st, 1954. The news story had stuck in his head while he was in the process of developing the Godzilla story.

As you can tell, I like names that have a purpose/reason. They also need to sound good though. :) I have a "Dungeons and Dragons" bard character named Procol Harum for this reason.

Anyway! "Lucky Dragon" is up for grabs as far as I'm concerned. I'm only going to use it on the spaceship cockpit I'm making for my 2 yo son.

I love the names of the sentient ships in Ian Banks' Culture series

To list a few of my favourites:

Class: GCU (general contact unit) - Nervous Energy
Class: GCU - Problem Child
Class: ROU (Rapid Offensive Unit) - Frank Exchange of Views
Class: OU (Offensive Unit)- Awkward Customer
Class: GSV (General Systems Vehicle) - Experiencing a Significant Gravitas Shortfall

Theres too many more to mention them all...

Culture series was a favourite of mine

DREAMTROVE

First there's the name that the Alliance uses daily, such as Ranger 3, Jupiter 2, or Nostroma
There are fancier names, if you think they sound sweeter, like NCC-1701, SA-43 or C57-D
