VISIONARY

I've been over in the forums for SPACE, the canadian channel airing Firefly this fall, and the show is getting TRASHED by lots of people there.

The Firefly supporters are decidedly in the minority so I need you folks to head on over, register, and let your voice be heard. Otherwise, many people who casually visit the site will be talked OUT of watching...and that would just BLOW!

I've just posted a long-winded reply on a subject started by someone else called "To the Firefly nay-sayers" or something, but if you scroll down there's a variety of posts that Firefly is getting slandered in.

Get there people!

TRAGICSTORY

On my way with BACSS (Big Ass Canuck Spanking Stick) No offense to our more civilized neighbors to the north.
EDIT: I tried loging in and it said may email address lacked an @ eventhough it did not. This just emphasises my views on Canucks (the eastern half at least)

PHILOMEL

HEY!

Annoying as the naysayers may be, please remember three things:

(1) A *Canadian* channel *is* showing FF eps, including the new ones. A brilliant show cancelled by a non-Canadian network. Ergo ...

(2) Nathan Fillion, a.k.a our Captain? Canadian. (plus, Jewel Staite, also Canadian. 'Nuff said.)

and,

(3) We did not elect George W.

However, I do not disagree that *some* people who reside here may be ... misguided ... it's up to us to show them the light!

Most Americans didn't vote for him either. He squeaked by and got selected instead of elected because his brother's state, Florida, screwed up so badly. Then he set the world on fire. And David Kelly died of suicide? Yeah right.

Sigh, one of the reasons I come to this forum is to escape politics.

About half the country did vote for Bush, and since 9-11 a lot of folks who didn't are rather grateful that he did win.

It was not the Governor of the state that screwed it up. Each county holds and runs its own election process overseen by a commision, elected by the county itself. In the disputed counties, these were almost exclusively Democratic party members.

All the Secretary of State does is take a publically available set of numbers, from each and every county, insuring they are delivered on time, in accordance with the law, and adds them up. Her work is all out in the open, so the chance of fraud or 'stealing' is impossible at that level.

The only way to steal an election under the rules Florida was using was to change the way the votes were counted at the county level. It was the Democratic party that sued the Democrats on the various election committees in order to force them to change the way they were counting the votes.

In most cases in front of Democrat judges, judges that were either appointed by Democrats, or members of the Democratic party. In all cases with one exception, the Democrats lost those suits.

The only place where the Democrats won, was in the Florida Supreme Court. This court had to overrule all lower court rulings, and redefine the law such that 7 days meant 21 days.

That state supreme court ruling was overturned in the Federal Supreme Court. The Florida supreme court which had overturn all its lower courts ruling, was itself overturn, despite the fact that the election commissions and the lower court judges were predominantly Democrat.

In spite of all this, and after the election, several newspapers did the recounts that the Gore campaign had requested. And still Bush beat Gore.

For more the supreme court's ruling ending this mess, see http://mason.gmu.edu/~berkowit/lawfulness030503.htm

In short, while Bush is blamed for stealing the election, there is no method provided in which that could be done. The Democrats attempted and failed to change the rules in the middle of the election, and have laws re-interpreted in a manner countrary to what was written. It was a close election, with an evenly divided electorate.

While the meme that Bush stole the election may be great fodder for those hard core loyalists to the Democratic party, it does not fit the facts of the incident in question, nor is it a viable strategy in winning the next and future elections. It is the independents who pick the President, not either party. And by continuing spouting this meme, the Democrats are pushing those independents away from themselves and toward the Republicans.

If the Democrats continue committing suicide like this, we are going to be a one party nation. Not through law or force, but simply because the Democratic party will be blown off or laughed at by the electorate.

Shush up then. You know that bit is just going to make more people want to argue and I think it’s been proven that Browncoats and politics are never much fun to mix.

I think the whole election mess could've been settled in an Alliance-friendly bar on U-Day.
