Quote: "Miracles" (ABC) Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the Vatican actively investigates miracles. The majority of these turn out to be hoaxes, but when a young Vatican investigator, played by Skeet Ulrich, finds himself in the middle of something quite real, it leads him into a world of underground investigations balancing faith and the paranormal. Conceived by Richard Hatem ("The Mothman Prophecies") and co-written and produced by David Greenwalt, who undertook the same duties on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," the show aspires to take a dark though sometimes humorous look into a world where too often the unexplainable happens. "One of the ideas the show advances is the notion that if what you believe on Sunday morning in church actually started happening on Tuesday afternoon, it would scare the living bejesus out of you," Greenwalt says. With a cast including Ulrich and Hector Elizondo, the network has ordered 12 episodes of the show and plans to introduce it midseason. Greenwalt credits "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon for making it possible for shows like "Miracles" to even be considered by the networks. Still, Greenwalt aspires to more subtly tread the worlds of reality and science fiction -- saying there will be no monsters wearing rubber masks on ABC. The show's darker nature and unconventional backdrop did elicit some concerns at the highest levels of Disney, though Greenwalt says the show's Vatican connections weren't the network's prime concern. "I think they were a little more worried about us sticking a syringe in someone's eye within the first 30 seconds." Episode List: 1-1. The Ferguson Syndrome 1-2. The Friendly Skies 1-3. unknown 1-4. unknown 1-5. Who's Your Daddy? 1-6. Battle at Shadow Ridge 1-7. Mr. Friendly 1-8. Hand of God 1-9. White Shark 1-10. The Bone Collector

Quote:'Miracles': A Dangerous Stunt! January 24, 2003 'Scream' star SKEET ULRICH says he considers himself more of a spiritual person than a religious one: The biggest miracle in his life was the birth of his twins. Still, there was something about the new ABC series, "Miracles," that appealed to the slasher-film enthusiast, and made him decide to give TV a try. "I hadn't read anything in film that was as powerful or poignant," he tells ET. "It touched me in so many ways. I had been looking for something like this in film for a very long time. There are so many ways that this character goes, so many ups and downs, and experiences that he has." In "Miracles," airing Monday nights at 10 p.m., Ulrich plays Paul Callan, an investigator of modern miracles who always discovers a mundane explanation that disproves claims of divine intervention. With his faith dwindling, Paul finally experiences a real miracle, which changes his life forever. As a result, he hooks up with a man named Alva Keel (played by ANGUS MacFADYEN), who has been on his own quest for the truth. Keel heads an organization that investigates unexplained occurrences. "I think Paul is trying to figure out where he falls in terms of faith," the actor who was born BRYAN RAY ULRICH explains. "I think deep down, he probably has more faith than we see in that he's open enough to follow his heart. I think he's torn." ET was on the set for an action-packed "Miracles" adventure in which a city bus explodes. "Today is probably one of our biggest days," Ulrich pointed out. "I like to do as much of the action stuff as they will let me, for believability's sake." So does the star of 'The Craft' believe in supernatural events? "I try and stay objective about it," he replies. "And that's hard in some cases. There are things that I would be skeptical about that Paul may not be. You just have to stay open. The great thing about Paul is his openness." For a behind-the-scenes look at "Miracles," tune in to ET tonight. Then catch "Miracles" on ABC, Monday nights at 10.
