Quote:I watched I think 3 seasons then things got strange, characters died or left and then.... *meh*. But in the beggining it was one of my most watched shows.

Quote:Originally posted by reginaroadie: Yeah, it was basically behind the scenes struggles that killed the show. Tracy Torme was the showrunner for the first two years, and by all accounts it was an uphill battle between him and FOX (pause for irony). By season 3, he was starting to become marginalized and replaced by David Peckinpah (who is related to Sam) who took the series toward a "rip-off whatever hit movie was out at the time" approach. That, as Torme quitting altogether damaged SLIDERS for good. And even though they returned to the "parallel worlds" original idea and went for two more seasons, it never really recovered. Which is a true shame because I loved this show. I watched it a lot when I was a kid and it was one of the first sci-fi shows I really got into. You know, with THE BIONIC WOMAN being remade for NBC with some of the same creative team behind the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA remake, and now a new FLASH GORDON coming out in August from The Sci-Fi Channel, I wonder if enough time has passed for SLIDERS to get remade. Because the concept is perfect. Keep Quinn, Wade, The Professor, the portal, the timer and the satire/black humor and get rid of Remy and the Kromaggs, and you have the opportunity to re-invent it in the same vein of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA or DOCTOR WHO. And in the polarized times we live in, it could really open up to some fantastic "what if" scenarios. Like what if they land in a world where the dominant religion of the U.S. is Muslim and the terrorists responsible for 9/11 were Christians. That would REALLY stir things up. Of if the Mayan's didn't self-destruct and were the first to colonize North America. I know someone mentioned this before as an actual book, but even with all other kinds of "parallel world" stories (HIS DARK MATERIALS and THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA being two off the top of my head), I just think a concept like SLIDERS can't go to waste. If GALACTICA and WHO can rise out of the ashes of obscurity and cheese and become the best bits of sci-fi tv on the air now, then I think SLIDERS could have a shot. ************************************************** "Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?" "No." "Have you ever fired ONE gun whilst jumping through the air?"

Quote:Originally posted by RiveR6213 I remember as a child watching "The Time Tunnel" and it seemed to me that Sliders IS the Time Tunnel only sideways. Instead of traveling through time you are traveling through alternate dimensions but ending up in the same city. Good concept. Some many good ideas and not enough time or money... -River
