EVILDINOSAUR

I didn't see a thread about this yet so I figured I'd start one.

Who's seen it? What'd ya think?

I thought it was ok, the jerky handheld camera for 1.5 hours got to my stomach a little bit, I had to close my eyes a few times in the movie to keep the nausea at bay. Had lots of cool action, the slow reveal of the monster throughout the movie was pretty cool.

I liked how they used various methods to make the camera stop recording so that you could see glimpses of this really good day that the main characters had, that was kinda cool

I guess the only thing I didn't like, other than the camera jerkiness, was the slight lack of story. Granted there was no real way to have much story aside from what the video camera could see, but

it'd be nice to find out where the monster came from, they probably could have worked that in somewhere, but I guess maybe they didn't wanna get away from the more personal story of the main characters

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

DEADLOCKVICTIM

i started this thread a few days ago....
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=32249

but yeah, i saw it yesterday and i have to say that this is one of the few films that has had a real physical effect on me.... i left the theater feeling quite nauseous - i don't normally suffer from motion sickness, but an hour and a half of shaky hand held camera really got to me... i wanted to like this movie, but to be honest, i was glad when it was over... very cool monster, though

I didn't have any problem with motion sickness, so maybe thats why I loved this movie. I was really impressed that they held the conceit (one critical called it a gimmick, but that's just being critical) of the handheld camera. I was worried that they might pop in and out of it or that sometimes it would look professionally filmed, but they really stuck with it.

And I'm glad

that they never revealed where the thing came from or anymore about it because that would have broken the narrow point of view of the story, which is where I thought the movie's genius lie.

As for sequel talk

Select to view spoiler:

apparently during the last scene when they are at coney island you can see the monster in the background, in the water somewhere, which I've heard might spawn a prequel. Also, if you wait till the end of the critics you hear this weird noise that sounds like static on a radio or amplifier feedback. I read that if you play it backwards its the main character (rob) saying, "Its still alive."

"We'll pass through it soon enough."

Well, I haven't seen the movie yet but I do want to the only concern I have is the camera work. Would you say that the jerkiness of the camera is a real problem or just an annoyance?

remember that a kick in the ass is a step forward

the hand held camera gives the film a very real, in the moment, feel, it could be a problem for some people - i would not take my girlfriend to see it because she does suffer from motion sickness very easily - but this is a really good movie and you should see it... and don't over think the motion sickness thing - just close your eyes and rest a bit if it gets too much -

someone said something about the credits... that was a helluva long overture at the end - i actually went to the can, came back and caught the end - and i did hear the static that was mentioned, but i haven't played anything backwards since 'I am the Walrus"...

does anyone remember the kind of camera work on Firefly? It was loosely set on the principle of fast and loose"amateurish" I enjoyed the film a lot.

STRANGEBIRD

First off my post is fairly spoiler free. I mention a name or two and that there is a monster in the movie... if you don't know that you have a major disorder and need immediate medical help. Other than that I don't talk of any particular plot point or give away any spoilers like deaths, lines, twists or otherwise.

Simply amazing film. For those complaining about the lack of story I seriously think you missed the point. It's not about a monster it's about people trying to get the hell away from it. Well mostly but I'm not giving any spoilers.

As for sequel or prequel talk... if they do another I hope it's for the right reason. That they have a story in their heads and they want to tell it. If they don't then I hope they never make another. Seriously I am pretty sure there's going to be so many monster movies over the next six to ten years we are all going to be sick of them. You know what Hollywood does when they see a success... attempt to clone it and completely miss the fricking point.

Personally I am more interested in seeing other genres filmed in this style, by this crew, with relative unknown actors. They should do a more drama/comedy next then a more scifi or fantasy type film.

Also I cannot be the only one who could relate to Hud. I felt like it was me with the camera. Which was probably the intent of the director and creator.

P.S. Oh I also had a slight problem with the film style but it was more to do with the anxiety attack I had about half way through the film.

P.P.S @above post. Yes I do remember the style. I mentioned it on the last Cloverfield thread awhile back. Another thing I love about Firefly. Anyway this is more like if you yourself had a camera. We see feet and road and stuff a lot. You know running for your life over getting a good angle...

I sure hope it gets a sequel. Now that the Godzilla movies have come to an end, I'm going into giant monster withdrawl (sp?)

How many Jaynes does it take to change a light bulb?

Two. One to try to put it in and another to find a bigger hammer.
