Always interesting that the people over at TVBYTHENUMBERS dig up this stuff, but apparently their latest discovery is that 'Dollhouse' may only air 12 episodes this season finishing with 'Omega' instead the of 13 with 'Epitaph One' as originally planned.

Robert Seidman writes, "the May schedule information only goes through May Sweeps which end on Thursday May 20, 2009, so I’m not sure what the schedule for beyond that looks like, but for now it looks like they only plan to air 12 episodes of Dollhouse with the season finale on May 8th."

Hmmm...is FOX pulling another 'Firefly' and saving (if one can even call it that) the episode for the 'Dollhouse' DVD?

Read the article yourself if interested:

It's not hard to dig up stuff that was announced in a press release by Fox PR. ;)

FOX isn't pulling another Firelfy. They have been very supportive of this show, especially since the ratings have been far worse then Firefly.

Best scenario I can think of is Fox wants to end this season with a cliff hanger and they're saving the final episode, which in theory would resolve the Alpha story arc, for the first ep of season two. Not sure how likely that is or if the episode structures even support that possibility but it's all I've got.

If I read it correctly Prison Break's series final is the 15th, they did'nt say the 12th episode of Dollhouse was it's series final. Maybe the 13th will air on the 22nd?

Sounds like the end. If the series was coming back, they wouldn't pull the season finale. They would, however, if it gives them a blurb for the DVD box: "Including unaired episode!"

They keep calling it "season" final, not "series" final.

No one really knows for sure until Upfront Week, which is in late May, after Sweeps.

I guess all we can do is wait. The episode, 'Epitaph One,' will definitely be on the DVD, but might not air because it was the original pilot for 'Dollhouse' and not a continuing episode in the series.

I'm somewhat bummed since the episode stars Dr. Horrible's Felicia Day and we won't be able to see her till the DVD.

Original pilot? Then where did these other 12 episodes come from?

E! Online has an explanation.

eres_deal_on_season_finale.html

The short answer seem so be that Fox the TV production studio paid for the 13th episode, whereas Fox the Network bought 13 episodes that included the scrapped original pilot, so they are left with 12 episodes to air. Or something like that.

That's what they're saying, but one has to admit, if the ratings for 'Dollhouse' was stellar, FOX would have no trouble airing the episode.

As I understand it, the network gave an order for 13 episodes. Then when joss was finishing the pilot they scrapped that before it was edited together, parts were reused in other episodes. But that meant they were down to 12 and they didn't want to pay up more. But then the DVD division wanted 13 episodes because that was that they were marketing - so an extra episode was made which is not related to the current series, it takes place in the future. The network consider this an extra episode not part of their order and don't want to show it.

America loves a winner!

So, is this 'extra' ep the one which Felicia Day appears ? She's mentioned it in her online postings, and I'd like to see more of her on the small screen. Those G.E. washer / dryer ads only come on so often.
