Quote:Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises. The new chapter in the "Spider-Man" franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production. "A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three 'Spider-Man' films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning," said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment. "Working on the 'Spider-Man' movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job," said Sam Raimi. "We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade. This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else's hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable," said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio's chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. "Now everything begins anew, and that's got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can't wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012." "'Spider-Man' will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films and as we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen." The studio will have more news about Spider-Man in 2012 in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.

Maybe this time they can make the green goblin a little more menacing and do venom justice. I also hope they speed up the pace of making the movies. Let's face it spidey is pretty much a lock at the box office. I say film them back to back and start releasing films every 2 years. There is just so much to cover in the spidey world.

The reason Raimi walked on this one was because the studio wouldn't let him use villains from the comic. Now, they're free to hire a company man that'll do whatever the studio wants without a fight. Don't hold your breath for stories closer to the comic - the Execs don't have a clue what the comic stories are, and could care less. Unless you work for Sony Studios how do you know what went on behind the scenes? I don't put much stock in the he said she said rumors. Raimi stamped his name on all three movies. If he didn't like them he should have walked.

Quote:Originally posted by Storymark: i don't know about "nicely". yYs, Malcovich was up for The Vulture (and had been fitted for a costume)- but that's about the only accurate thing here. For one - Raimi didn't have control - that's a big reason he walked. Sony did not want him using the Vulture, or his second choice, The Lizard. The script was a mess (this according to about everyone involved), and focused on Peter and MJ having a baby.

Quote:Originally posted by OPPYH: Yeah, OK. Raimi did have complete control of the story for 4. He didn't "walk", he simply couldn't make the 2011 deadline(wanted a better writer) that Sony was pushing for. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Spider-Man-5-And-6-Get-A-Writer-Say-Goodbye-To-Sam-Raimi-14387.html Why don't you do a bit of research before you post inaccurate facts, or at least tell us where you get these wild stories from. Thanks.
Quote:So the short version here is that Sony has hired a writer Raimi wasn’t entirely happy with to write more Spider-Man movies. And what happened the last time Sony did something that Sam Raimi wasn’t entirely happy with? We got Spider-Man 3.
Quote:This could be Sony making plans to ditch Raimi and the rest to do whatever the hell they want, with a different cast and a different director.

Damn, it doesn't even say anything about Raimi missing the date! Is this you just floating your own BS theory, unresearched, and then bitching at me about sourcing?? Sounds like it.

Quote:Originally posted by Storymark: The article you posted, the Deadline Hollywood one, say he walked. But again, your taking the press release as the real story, whereas everything I posted runs back a month. The reason he couldn't make the date they wanted was they didn't have a script he was willing to shoot because the studio and he could not agree on the direction of the film. How is this not consistant with what I wrote? So again, maybe you should do your own research before attacking others.

You first objected to, and now completely agree with(after I posted the articled source) Raimi not having Spidey 4 ready by 2011. Whats going on? Are you schizophrenic? Are you playing games, or you just winging it as it unfolds agreeing, and disagreeing to suit how you feel at that particular time? Your scaring me dude.
