WTF was Scotty thinking bringing the severely wounded kid to the bridge instead of sickbay? Could he have been saved without that 15 minute detour??

I haven't seen the movie in a long while, but didn't he die in sick bay? And as Scotty said about Spock in Wrath, couldn't it have been a case of "he's dead already" (referencing the radiation exposure)? Maybe that's why he didn't feel the urgent need to get him to McCoy. True, that sounds like a stretch, but what else then?

I thought the message was pretty clear: Scotty was not happy that the guy was dead and wanted to show the stuffed shirts on the bridge what their little game was costing. Scotty would have seen enough engineering-related accidents in his time to know which ones were worth bothering the doctor with.

The WTF bit is why a veteran like Scotty would suddenly have an upper lip failure like that. Perhaps someone had been bending the writers ear about the lack of concern usually shown for victims of the red jersey curse.

(Sorry - this happened in "Wrath" right - not the new movie?)

Why this sudden obsession with the morality of Star Trek?

But the kid wasn't dead yet when Scotty brought him up (remember, Kirk has the "Full speed ahead" exchange with him) - so if your theory is true - Scotty is one HUGE asshole to let the kid die just to make his point.

STEGASAURUS

I was watching this just the other day and thought the exact same thing. And Saavik's hiss when she saw then was something odd too.

But all I could think was "Why in the world would he bring the cadet up to the bridge? That's just stupid!" I get that it gives the scene dramatic effect, but that's just making more issues for the somewhat intelligent viewers.

Just my humble opinion. Wrath of Kahn is still my favorite movie of the franchise.

Agreed - it's a minor flub in an otherwise great film.

I don't recall though - was McCoy on the bridge at the time? If so, it'd make a bit more sense.

In the novelization of the film, Peter is Scotty's nephew. From what I remember (Been nearly 20 years since I read it) something was wrong with the turbolifts and the lift couldn't get to sickbay directly but had to go via the bridge first.

Might be wrong and merging the two together (movie and book) but the nephew part was definitely in the book.

I think the extended TV cut also mentioned he was Scott's nephew, but I don't know about the turbolift thing.
