I know in the article they say they'll get a "name actor" to replace him, but I thought it would be fun to think of a Whedon alum to replace him.

My vote goes to Alexis Denisof. I think he's got the Bruce Banner look pretty well down. Plus he does the dark brooding thing well. I think he could pull it off. All the action is obviously going to be CGI anyway. So, nothing to worry about there.

Agree? Disagree? Other Whedon actors you'd like to see in the role?

The Hulk has had a troubled past couple of years, hasn't it? Kind of a rocky start for the Avengers.

Well, good luck to Whedon.

Seems the Hulk character is doomed to follow down the path of Batman, for most actors portraying him in a franchise history.

The Hulk has always suffered for me because his super power is fairly lame. He's really really strong. That's it? That's all you've got? No flying? No laser beams? No telekinetics? Boring.

Still as an ensemble like in the avengers then it works.

All I really don't want to hear out of this casting buzz is "we just went and hired Christian Bale like every other movie in the past 5 years".

Good call. He even played the nerdy scientist on Angel (even though I don't like it cause he was already in the Angel/Buffyverse as a vamp). It's like if some actor played a super hero in the marvel universe and then suddenly played a role of a different super hero in the marvel universe. Oh wait....grrrrr

Funny, he was the FIRST actor popped to mind- sort of a cross in looks between Norton & Bixby, but a huge talent in his own right.

Not a bit of it. The last one was excellent, and I knew it was a one shot deal for Norton.

As much as I like and admire Alexis, I'm having trouble seeing him in the role. Not sure why.

Strong and serious eyebrows, not a traditional Banner trait IMO.

I'm trying to think of whether James Marsters could pull it off. Obviously needs a different hairstyle than he normally has. I think he could pull off the dramatic side of the role.

He could do it.
But I stand on my first choice.

A couple sites are reporting that Joaquin Phoenix has been offered the role. Which would be odd given Marvel's statement regarding Norton, being the Phoenix isn't an unknown, and has even more of a rep for being difficult on set.

Troubled is a fair word given that Norton feuded with the studio on the last one. And neither party intended it to be a one time deal initially.

Well, technically that hasn't happened, given that until recently every Marvel-inspired franchise has occupied it's own universe, and not a shared one.

Maybe in the technical movie universes. However, the marvel comics universe includes a lot of heroes in the same universe. To me they all still exist in any movie universe even if you don't hear about them or see them. You take the hero you get it all.

I don't know. The deleted scenes he was fighting to get put in turned out to be rather dull and unnecessary for the most part. I think leaving them in would have hurt the pacing, and would have added little.

The Great God Momentum may have been miffed, but I like many (not all) of the deleted scenes for their character content. I could have easily dealt with about 20 more minutes in the flick.
