I've been very busy with work all year so far, which might change soon.

Have not seen many films so far.

But previews for Transformers (in an empty theater) provided me with:

Expendables 4

Asteroid City.

Both Cineplexes of the Large chain in the Midwest were effectively ghost towns on a Saturday night.
I had trouble finding a film I could sit through.

Maybe these entries will energize the movie-going masses.

What else is coming up?

Honestly? I just looked at the list of planned releases for the rest of the year and aside from being able to dunk on Indy 5 and The Marvels when they come out and fall on their faces, nothing really looks interesting to me at all.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/release-schedule

Looks like they plan a "Ghostbusters Sequel" to be released on December 20th. That might be slightly interesting, but I've still never even bothered to watch Afterlife.

*yawn*

I did notice Dune 2 is coming out this year too.

I never did see the first part from a few years ago, but I know that a lot of people who were into Dune thought it was done well and I'm happy to see that Hollywood is following through on it for them.

A lot of movies don't do it for me, too much weirdo politics

I will probably watch some Low Budget American European films, or something overseas RRR from India was fun or Japan, China, South Korea, most South Korean is ok if I get good subtitles or dubbing.
There was an Aussie film about some girl who befriended a fish but the soundtrack got better movie reviews than the movie itself
I will probably watch Dune 2, maybe the new John Wick
Some good Documentary on Nature or History also.

Sisu from Finland showed Hollywood how they used to do screen presence, outrageous scenes, tension and spectacle and action on a cheap budget

Others
Napoleon 2023
Rebel Moon
Babylon 5 scifi animation The Road Home
Oppenheimer
Killer of the Flower Moon

I'd like to see a Nobody / John Wick crossover movie.

With the real John Wick from the first movie. Not the meatpuppet they turned him into after the 2nd movie.

Looks like Sound of Freedom opens tomorrow.

Have not seen trailers or previews. Based upon cast and story summary, I plan to see this tomorrow (if the cinemas cooperate).
And it is biographical, a True Story. I plan to report if I see any Fake Wokeness in it.

imdb says more like it include Nefarious. After looking into this more, I want to see it even mare than before. I will need to hunt it down.
Seems like Jim is doing several productions from Angel, which also look interesting.

SoF is credited as a 2022 release, but it is opening tomorrow.

Should be far better than all the woke dreck filling cinema marquees while repelling viewers, keeping theaters empty.

And then next week is Maverick doing a bunch of running around in Mission Impossible Part 1

Maybe my picks are still the same, not many I want to see, maybe Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, Rebel Moon....the rest might be indie stuff or overseas movies and tv for example South Korean tv movie drama stuff. Bird Box Barcelona seems to be a Spanish part II, the original US movie got mixed reviews but went on to become the most-watched film on Netflix . Sick of remakes of a re-imagining that is remade again and again for anotehr franchise remade...or can remakes ever be better than an original? They are remaking another Alien movie AGAIN and old tv show 'The Fall Guy' is made into a movie but I think its delayed until 2024, Thunderbolts seems to be a bad Mercenary Avengers like 'Suicide Squad' the movie Beetlejuice 2 is rumored to return with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton

I might keep an eye out for 'Sound of Freedom' but first I think I have to give the USA respect again with that Freedom of speech thing, without its 1st Amendment would the original Mob Mafia Conspiracy have been exposed, would the world have admitted UAPs or some illusion or Drone or Alien UFOs have been flying over our heads for years, with a ban on speech would you have seen movies where Big Tobacco knew that cigarettes caused cancer, with no right to write and film and speak would you have known government poisoned alcohol during Prohibition, would Operation Northwoods have been made public, first lady who ran the Woodrow Wilson country, would pix of Ford as a Mason and wearing that islamo Shriner had gone public on the webs, with no rights to speak and write would the crimes of Epstein and the scandal of Maxwell, Prince Andrew have seen light, with no freedom of the right to speech would a movie like 'Sound of Freedom' have been made?

No. I did not hear about Sound of Freedom until I noticed before anybody else that it had knocked Indy 5 out of 1st place on the 4th.

Are those any good?

I'm pretty sure I watched the first one on streaming maybe a year after it came out, but I don't remember a single thing about it.

They just seem to not appeal to me for about half of the reasons Indy 5 doesn't appeal to me and most of the reasons Indy 4 didn't.

And to me, the whole concept of the movie almost seems subconsciously woke. Kind of a "baddass dudes are old guys that are dying off soon" or something.

I wonder what even is a hero to kids growing up today outside of Super Heroes. They might not actually have anything grounded at all in reality and think the only way you can be a hero is if you got bitten by a radioactive spider or are Elon-Musk-rich and build yourself a flying robotic suit or McGuffin this or McGuffin that.

I would happily binge watch the mindless action of Expendables, I seen Expendables part '1' its an ok film, good classic 80s feel Action entertainment but with the dark, gritty, goth, nihilism, grim look of modern films, however it is somewhat upbeat and has funny moments. It was coming off a new era the remakes of Bond, birth of the comic book and other entertainment films like Dark Knight, Ironman, Nolan's Batman II, Ironman II, Cloverfield, The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, the wacky comedy Tropic Thunder, the somewhat flop-ish Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Twilight drama. Expendables comes along with all the old Action hero types, Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews there were women in the film but I don't remember their role other than calling them or answering a phone or sending an email 'contract' maybe the bad guys were Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke and maybe Steve Austin..I think there's a fight scene with Stallone and Steve Austin lots of helicopter explosions, guns and tank maybe a private terrorists army or something. Chuck Norris shows up in later movies to play the meme version of himself and Van Damme would later appear in another Expendables, its the who is who of 80s action films minus Kurt Russell, Eddie Murphy, Jackie Chan, Roddy Piper, Antonio Banderas, Peter Weller but its every other 80s or 90s action movie combined.

The movie has minimum plot, beat bad guys, or also for some reason people lose their guns and it goes hand to hand, Stallone's character gets his butt kicked by whatever character Steve Austin plays and then Randy Couture plays a character comes along and beats Steve Austin, it was also a time when Boxing or Kickboxing or Olympic Wrestling were seen as old sports replaced by new cage fighting entertainment of mma ufc and I believe 'Arine' shows up in one of the movies.

EDIT

I just watched the trailers for these films it seems to have everyone including Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, mma ufc star 'Ronda Rousey' I'm going to binge watch these films and probably enjoy them a lot.

I also see Weinstein stuff casting couch people who prey on Women, little girls, little boys and even Adult Men
a scandal Terry Crews refused to appear in any new entries after claiming he was sexually assaulted by Stallone's agent, Adam Venit.
Respect for Terry Crews for staying chilled and as he might have taken the guy's head off with one punch and then be labelled an aggressor criminal by the creeps behind the studios.

I think that article is textbook putting the cart before the horse.

People are going to watch these just because there's really nothing else to watch for most of the rest of the year, but I don't see any one of them doing particularly well for various and sometime overlapping reasons. Will all of them flop? Quite possibly, depending on the budgets. Even if they don't, I don't see any way they make enough money to justify the expense, time and effort.

Wish would be my only exception here. I still don't know enough about it to really give any predictions. I think if there are some real bangers in there on the soundtrack it could do really good business. It looks like they're releasing singles from the soundtrack early, and one of them at least are already out. I listened to This Wish by Ariana DeBose, and although it's very competent and she's got a nice voice, I think they'd better have a much deeper roster than this. It's no "Let it Go".

Not Hindu India guy, born in Bombay he is a religion conspiracy loon and is Nondenominational Christian

of course you will get some idiotic who will swallow that whole
Dem Vietnam Serbia Julian Assange Commie caused the 911 Attack!

D'Souza wrote the book America: Imagine the World Without Her on which his 2014 film of the same name is based. When the warehouse club Costco pulled the book from its shelves shortly before the film's release, conservative media and fans on social media criticized the move. Costco said it pulled the book due to low sales. D'Souza blamed an Obama Conspiracy.

I don't think I will watch Police State maybe I get enough political nonsense here without Dinesh D'Souza movies

but here's the trailer

D'Souza from India got American citizenship he had some type of homosexual gay fantasy love thing about senile Ronnie Raygun, he wrote a dumb book in which he argues that the American left not little Bush not jihadi islamists but Commies or 'The Left' is responsible for the 911 attacks. D'Souza pleaded guilty in federal court to one felony charge of using a "straw donor" to make the illegal campaign contribution. In 2018, D'Souza was issued a pardon by President Donald Trump.

In May 2022, D'Souza released 2000 Mules, a film that alleges Democrat-aligned individuals were paid to illegally collect and deposit ballots into drop boxes, D'Souza is generally identified as a neoconservative. Some of his movies collected Razzies or Golden Raspberry Awards because he puts B-movie, C-grade and D-List actors in his movies

D'Souza got around for a while and put his penis into conservatives Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter so he has many connections among the FauxSnooze sluts crowd

He is pro islamic Sharia Law and loves religion loons and if people criticize islamism and jihads he calls them islamic-phobia, he has debated Serge Trifkovic and Robert Spencer, who both Correctly deem Islam "inherently aggressive, racist, violent, and intolerant." D'Souza has also warned against support of certain individual Mosques that are too batshit insane even he can not defend their islamist nonsense, he blames Obama for the rise of islamic terror and warns of the Middle East becoming a "United States of Islam" in his attacks against former President Barack Obama.

2023 was a year for the foreign movies, the Japan toons and South Korea shows, The Boy and the Heron, the European and indie market Finland Sisu, the trailer for
Return to Seoul seemed ok, “Past Lives” and others
Thailand, Latin America, India Bollywood is also selling but this is more of a sign of Hollywood's decline, US indie 'Suitable Flesh', foreign documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” or drama with Americans in Aus you have The Royal Hotel and 'It Lives Inside' a Canada product
“Maestro” Director Bradley Cooper and “Pacifiction” were supposed to be good.

Oppenheimer was worth it

“Godzilla Minus One” might have been one of the best of 2023 was it better than Oppenheimer?....not sure I think Oppenheimer maybe wins but it was refreshing to see a foreign film show how movie making can be done.

M3GAN there were many indie horror hits but hated by Hollyweird

I didn't watch many hits like Mario Bros...so can't comment on 2023 in total and there are a few I have yet to watch.Sound of Freedom is supposed to be good although Hollyweird and old tinsel town Magazine Critics that link to the industry hated it

movie theatres would rather show old 80s and 1990s re-runs than take a risk on foreign and small US indie product or have they rigged the Market for Hollyweird?

This year it will be DeadpoolWolverine and Dune 2 vs other works of Film art from around the world.

more foreign film winning again in 2024....The Parades, even foreign Comedy like Red Ollero Mabuhay is a Lie, The Price of Nonna’s Inheritance, The Zone of Interest, It Is Night in America, Concrete Utopia, Maboroshi, Society of the Snow, the Teacher Lounge, Scrambled, The Peasant, Nelma Kodama The Queen of Dirty Money, The Promised Land, Badland Hunters
