Soooooo...

Was watching the ep where Spike discovers he can hit Buffy in spite of his "defanging" by the brain chip in his mellon.

Never did catch a real explaination as to WHY Spike could hit the Buffster. But I had a thought... tell if I'm nuts.

Seems to me Spike could hit Buffy not because of what she was, but because of what Spike felt BECAUSE of her. Spike may be an evil souless thing, but he knows love. He feels love. And this, I'm speculating, is what allowed his chip to "fail" when he hit Buffy.

That is; he loves Buffy and, since the chip would NOT detect any real malice, he could hit Buffy... and then roll around like mad eels covered in sex jelly too! Heh heh.

Am I nuts?

the official reason what that she came back somewhat different and that's pretty lame as far sa excuses go, I think.

whereas Spike could hit (or better try to hit) Buffy even earlier when he didn't mean anything bad with it. it's in the EP where he tells her about how he killed the other two slayers. he tries to hit her and she blocks and he says he can do that because he knows she'll block and so he won't really harm her.

so maybe when it's just a game it's not harming and so he's allowed.

This became REALLY interesting because he could hurt her, maybe kill her, like the other two Slayers, but he doesn't. He can't hurt humans but he can hurt her, why? We learned earlier that Spike is "loves bitch." Nuff said..

Buffy doesn't love Spike. He even says so. "No you don't, but thanks for saying it."

I think Buffy likes being adored. Spike gives her that without her having to give anything back. She likes being held and having all the perks of a relationship but I never felt that Spike as a person ever really got her sparks going.

I think its a simple something they cant really bring themsleves to say on T.V. Kink. plain and simple. Spike can hit Buffy and not get hurt because it doesnt hurt her. She it feels good. Anyone into SM can tell you that pain still hurts, but it's pleasure. Its obvious they've got some heavy BDSM shit goin on here and its hella HOTT.

I think the real question is how on earth the chips works in the first place. It can't be done on Spike's thoughts because he tries to hurt Buffy deliberately and it doesn't go off. It can't be self contained because otherwise it would shock him when he's in that hypnotised state.

I think it's enough of a McGuffin that we just have to accept that the explanation that it was just some technicality that stopped it from working on post-lazarus Buffy.
