Buffy and Angel are both brilliant, and Firefly is just as good, but I think that if the show had been allowed to continue, it would have become better. Damned TV people.

...and we will call it...this land...

New to the site, and postin' all over. What I like to see. Hello again Fantasticlaughingfairy!( mind if I call you FLfairy for short?)
There is a definite FOX sentiment at this site. You fit right in.
Can you imagine, given what time Buffy had to develope, where Firefly could've gone if it had seven seasons??

*check out what's been archived in some forums, it's a quick way to get up to speed on what's been talked about and what's not been, and there's a LOT of info there, too. (I only been here couple months myself)

1. Firefly

2. Angel
1st 2nd and 5th

3. Buffy
Only saw the first season & other eps from time to time. I read many of the episode transcripts and enjoyed those, but just never could dive right into the show. Always loved Faith.

How can you say you have always loved Faith when you've missed most of her arc by not watching all of BtVS S3, Faith's wonderful appearance in a truly great two part episode in S4, and finally Faith's return in S7 (I particularly recommend 'Dirty Girls', where you get to see when Faith killed the Vulcan).

1. Firefly (in spite of only half a season, it is so perfect).

1.5 in 7 seasons Buffy really managed to tell a full story, with a silent episode, and a musical...
nothing else on TV has ever been like it.

3. Angel (better than most of TV, but not even close to BtVS IMO).

Why not Angel 3rd and 4th? And wasn't the end of the 5th kinda abrupt?

Curious about 3 and 4 of Angel ? - to my mind they're the best...

To each their own 'suppose...

I'd suggest not asking too many more questions you may start to accumulate too much second hand knowledge that could take the shine off....

Remember we're all comparing the thing as a whole but that's not the way we came across them - all the episodes are entertaining individually, many are great, and a few are simply profound and one is just beyond them all!

That said.... Enjoy.

In addition to this thread I went through some archived stuff and 'he' dies 'she' dies goes right past me, I don't retain data that has no meaning for me at the moment, but now is the time for me to stop. The names and characters are beginning to get real, spoilers will register.

I bet tonight I'm gonna like Teacher's Pet more than others do, since i've read how bad it is...

A lot of it is expectation Chrisisall

Witch was good, funny, I did see the mother- daughter thing comin' though. Liked the last scene w/Buffy and her mom. Nice end with the trophy.
Teacher's Pet was totally enjoyable! I guess it just pales in the face of future eps or something, 'cause I really had fun with it. Even the big rubber mantis was kept in the shadows and edited quick 'nuff to look pretty good.

It was a pretty rough time in my life when I started watching Buffy. My girlfriend and I had broken up, I hated my job, and in general, I was really depressed. I started watching Buffy around the second or third episode of season 2. I was blown away. I've never cared a whole lot for TV, but with Buffy I cared about the characters, and where the story would take me next. It's the only show that could make me laugh, and cry. It seriously helped me get over my troubles. I had passion for something again, and it was a TV show. a bit sad, maybe, but it's the truth.
To be honest Joss Whedon was the real reason I gave Firefly a chance. I knew the magic he created on Buffy, and I was not let down When Firefly aired. I will always remain a huge Buffy fan, but if Firefly ran 7 seasons, it would have been better.

Oppyh, a l o n g time ago a show called Hill Street Blues did the same for me, so I know where you're commin' from.
I've only seen Buffy S1 so far and it's great, but not yet greater than FF. I'll have to come back to this thread after S2 to compare more.

TV can save your sanity, too Chrisisall

PHILJONES

For me, Angel is the best show. From the first episode I was hooked - even more so than I was with Buffy. It's definitely a more adult show than Buffy, and this is probably why i prefer it.

I've only just watched Firefly but thought it was awsome. I can't wait for the movie. I believe that if it'd run 7 series like Buffy, or even 5 like Angel then it would've been the best show. It's got so much in it, and with more series obviously new characters would've been brought in, and others killed off\left, so what someone above said about its durability is null i feel.

I always thought that Buffy series 4 was the worst of the bunch, but rewatching it the other day I realise how good some of the individual episodes was, even if the overall story arc wasn't as strong as other series. The only series I think doesn't stand out as outstanding on rewatching is series 1, as this seems to have aged much more badly than the others. Because of this, I'd urge new viewers not to pick up on the poor points of series 1 when deciding whether or not to continue with series 2-7, as these rarely show such weakness.

So for me it would have to be Angel as the best show, with Firefly and Buffy on a par.

Thanks, PhilJones, very helpful to all us Browncoats discovering Buffy and/or Angel for the first time 'cause of Firefly.
(I thought Prophesy Girl really ROCKED, though!)

Starrbaby, I'm now into S2 of Buffy, and is it great! (you all told me so)! I can so see the Firefly-like dialogue!!
"Cordelia, your mouth is open, sound is coming out. This isn't a good thing." how FAMILIAR that sounds...ha ha ha (is Jayne a Cordelia in space?)
Still like FF better, but Buffy's a lot cooler than I imagined. If only FF had that time to grow...
and I'm starting to like Angel's character, too.

I actually rememer a comentary on the FF DVDs that mentioned Jayne being FF's answer to Cordi. You hit the nail right on the head saying that.

I, like you, enjoy FF much better. I don't own boxed sets of either Angel or Buffy. I just catch re runs on TV. They're still lots of fun to watch though.

I put Buffy at the top only because it had more years to develop characters and try really creative things. Firefly would have been but we just started to get to know these characters and then the rug got pulled. We'll never really know which one was best.

I think I'll end up buying Buffy S3, then rent from there on to S7 (unless I start liking it even better than I do now, who knows, I'm only into S2 two eps so far!)
Hey, I like these FF spoiler-free threads. Haven't had to shut my eyes abruptly once so far.

(You can watch TV? I feel like that dude in the first ep of Max Headroom during the blipvert when I see commercials!)

That's what a tivo is for.
I'll watch a show, and during the 1st comercial break I'll go pee or make a snack or whatever. Then I'll fast forward through the comercials. I also get to use it to record stuff to watch later.
I never used to watch TV at all, but I'm on and off bed rest and you can only hum for so long before you run out of songs.

I've got to agree with this - it's hard to compare one season of Firefly with seven/five of Buffy/Angel. The characters in the earlier shows grew so much over the years, for better or for worse and the tone changed too as the shows got darker (Seeing Red for instance). Some us liked the changes, some of us didn't.

Whose to say how Firefly would have turned out if it had run for several years - many of the threads here are pretty negative about the latter seasons of Buffy. Maybe Firefly would have gone the same way - would someone as creative have Joss been happy to have stuck to just one show? Chances are he'd develop a new project which would take him away from Firefly - and the flaws of Buffy & Angel's last seasons are commonly attributed to Joss being preoccupied with Firefly.

Buffy & Angel will always mean more to me because I spent 8 years watching those shows. Firefly's like James Dean - died too soon but will always be remembered as something great.

Nice to see you again chrissisall,
It is my firm belief that Buffy, Angel and Firefly are equal in all aspects. In my unqualified opinion Joss is truely a god, in a writer, director, producer kind of way. oh and in terms of Howard Stern, that would have been the one time I would believe what he says.

Well in terms of a space-ship versus a slayer? I'm going to have to say that any Firefly class ship could smoosh a slayer any day.
