And obviously Buffy is sorry that all this time Riley has had this misunderstanding about their relationship. But at end Buffy tells Riley "That night I never got the chance to tell you how sorry I was about what happened between us." This line makes no sense because that's not why she was trying to catch Riley before he left. She was trying to catch him before he left to tell him to stay. Maybe Buffy's last line to Riley in "As You Were" is more open to interpretation than I think it is. I can understand why Buffy would be sorry she never got the chance to tell Riley how sorry she was about what happened between them. But she says "that night". And "that night" can only refer to the night she was trying to not let him go. So what's frustrating is that in "As You Were" Buffy's parting words to Riley refer to something that wasn't the case. I think the writers just screwed up. More importantly, there was a missed opportunity to deal with a very important development in the lives of both these characters. 'Cause even if Riley has gotten Buffy out of his system, I would think it would blow him away to find out that Buffy had tried to stop him. Because that little tidbit of knowledge would completely change his perception of their relationship. I guess Sam tells him on the way to Nepal. Or maybe not. But I would have liked to have seen Buffy tell Riley she tried to stop him. And see his reaction. At least that's the way I see it. But if someone can tell me why what Buffy said to Riley at the end there makes sense, please explain it to me.

Willow says "Hey, I never said that!" So, I think Buffy should have said something to Xander along the lines of "You lied to me?! Willow didn't say 'Kick his ass'!?" But instead they gloss over it and don't deal with it.
