Hey, all. I had never seen a single episode of BUFFY, and I was just curious about something.

At the local library, I have the first three seasons of BUFFY on hold. Now the second season is just sitting on a shelf, waiting for me to pick it up un til the 30th, which is when the hold on it expires. But I'm still waiting for the first season to show up so that I can watch it first and then ever subsequent series.

I was just curious. If I were to watch the second season before the first, would I end up hopelessly lost, or should I just stick it out and watch the first season before the 2nd?

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

As I don't know you, it's difficult to say
Whedon and his team were professional enough to know that they had to accommodate an audience that contained some who had not seen a prior season. Whether the first season will be spoiled for you is very much more personal. It hasn't mattered to me, but then my introduction to Firefly was the second half of the pilot, followed by The Message - so who am I to say?

Honestly, I'd wait for the first season. I really loved the first season and how it introduces the characters, and you'd be missing out on all that. But like previously posted, it's really up to you. The second season is amazing too, but it's worth the wait! Happy viewing!

You wouldn't be in the dark if you watch Season 2 first, but my advice is to start at the beginning with Season 1. Then again, you're getting this from someone who started with Season 4.

Season 1 - no question. OK, technically you can watch the seasons independently but of course you'll lose a lot in doing so - plus the opening episode of Season 2 owes a lot to the previous season's finale.

Yeah, you're right. I had forgotten about that. That seals it. Reginaroadie should definitely start with Season 1.

Start with Season 1, you get an intro to each character and a sense of who they are. Season 2 is far more superior, granted, but why miss out on how it all began (I mean the series. The movie sucked, but by no fault on Whedon's part).

k, i started with the pilot, watched them all in order, and it deffo makes more sense if u start out with the begining and work thru.
Problem with watching s2 first is that A. you wont get everything that's going on B. it's superior to s1, meaning that wen u watch s1, u wont enjoy it as much, becos it'll be a little bit of a step in the wrong direction.

Watch em in the right order

same way i did with Firefly. I'm a gd boy see!

At first I Was just going to say the first season introduces the characters nicely and such but the second season just blows it away. Now I still believe it does becvause its such an amaizing season and story arc (to me anyway) but because the first episode of the season hinges almsot ENTIRLEY on you seeing the first season and a lot of things won't make sense unless you see hte first season, I'd say see the first season. You wouldn't be COMPLETLEY lost but wow it would help A LOT. Besides its only 12 episodes long. Good luck!

Well, I am watching it with my other half. He had seen a few random episodes and didn't like it at all. My cunning plan though was that he likes silly humour, of which Season 1 is full. After 2 episodes (I kid you not) he was hooked. We are now watching S2 and my cunning plan worked, he loves it - hoorah!

In other words, start with Season 1 and the rest follows, the character developments make sense. I would give examples but it would spoil it.

extremely dimensionally transcendental

Well, I just spent all day watching the 1st season of BUFFY. So far, I'm actually impressed. Each of the episodes were strong in their own way (except for TEACHER'S PET, which I think was only written to cash in on the whole Mary Kay Letourneau thing, otherwise it was a weak ep), and I really liked the last episode. Overall, it had a good sense as to what it's about, it didn't seem too cheap despite it being on a shoestring. And I can understand now why it lasted an extra six years.

Giles rocks. I'm goona start on season 2 now. Probably have it done by tomorrow. Long weekend here, so I should be able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I started halfway through season three watching reruns lol. And I am ok with it, if you dont want to wait, I think its kinda neat starting half way through. It's like a Star Wars kinda thing...

WATCH THE FIRST SEASON FIRST!

IT'S A JOSS SHOW!!

My area didn't get The WB until season 3 of Buffy and believe me, you do not want to watch any episode of Buffy or season before they intended you to.

Especially the 2nd season!!!!

SUPERDUCKYWHO

I'd start with that crazy 90s movie with Peewee Herman in it as one of the vampires! ^ ^ I think it actually explains even more, as if i remember correctly season 1 just starts right in with the "same character" moving to a new town. XD Although it's almost completely different it's a kick to watch!

But if you can't get a hold of that, definately start with the first season as it's full of mini plot twists and character intros that leave you confused when missed.

ya see I wasn't confused at all. I actually think it helped me, becuase I was so in love with the characters that by the time I got back around to seasons 1 and 2 I could kinda ignore the cheesyness (because there was some cheesyness in there, though alot of you probably won't believe me). And then when I watched the ep where they get stuck in their Halloween costuems I was really excited because they allude (may not be using the right term here) to Xander's army days alot. So it was more special to watch...

You could just buy the first season of buffy, it's only 10.00 at walmart... besides, the first season is good for setting up character storylines and such. I suggest watching them in order!

Firstly, 10.00! *in shock* I can't believe it! But umm that's good for those who want to get into the series.

It's best to start with season 1. But it's up to you. I just hope that nothing technical will steer you away from it.

While I do agree that starting with S1 would give the viewer a better understanding of the characters, I think that some people could be put off by S1. It is, after all, seriously lacking in many of the aspects that make the remaining six seasons so great. The biggest problem is clearly the writing, since the only good writers on the show at this point were Joss himself and David Greenwalt. Really, it wasn't until midway through the second season the show really hit its stride. There are still some pretty great eps in the first one though, especially "Angel" and "Prophecy Girl".
