Just saw The Killer In Me, and Get It Done, I like 7 even better than 6!!
I actually like Kennedy, but from what I read, she was irritating...?
And Spike WITH his soul and WITHOUT his chip, the turnaround is fantastic. I gotta get Angel S5 just for more Spike!

The killer in me is the worst buffy episode ever.

Willow's potential was tossed aside the moment she kissed kennedy. Here's a character that has been slowly and grandly developed across 6 seasons of Buffy. The girl that started as a mouse, found her voice, gained great power and touched the darkside to be brought back from the brink was such an awsome character. I loved how season 7 started with her acting like the timid willow until a threat (anya's heart eating demon) appears...then willow was dark and angry. Wow. What a great juxtapostion. But by the time The Killer in Me came about, the character was faltering and the moment she kissed kennedy I stood up and howled in dismay.

Gone was the potential for a troubled two-sided hero. Now I had to finish the show with an upstart (kennedy) who singlehandedly ruined the best character of the entire show.

When I rate the seasons...season 7 is dead last.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.

If you like S7 and Kennedy, then I don't think you're going to have many problems with AtS S4 or Connor. BtVS7 and AtS4 rank as my least favorite years on each show, but AtS4 comes out slightly ahead in my book, mainly because it's story arc was so much tighter... until ep18, anyway, when they basically completely abandon it and start an entirely new one. But that's another issue.

S7 of Buffy has a lot to like. Andrew, Principal Wood, Faith (tho the writers didn't put her to as much use as they could have), Caleb, "Lies My Parents Told Me", the return of all the previous Big Bads at the end of "Lessons", the Webs/Buffy scenes in "Conversations with Dead People", and the fantastic final episode. And my cousin (who I've never met, which might actually be a good thing, from what I've heard) was an extra in "Sleeper."

The bad was that the story arc was all over the place--a result, I think, of Joss working on FF and not being around as much. The First wants to kill off the Slayer line... No, it wants to open the Hellmouth and have an apocalypse... No, it wants to become corporeal... The writers didn't seem to know where they were going, and worse, they spent practically every episode on that storyline, whereas in the previous years the seasonal arc was broken up by many more standalones.

The Potentials weren't necessarily bad (except for Rona, who is without a doubt the most unlikeable non-Big Bad ever seen on a Joss show), but there were too many of them, and they ended up just being sort of a faceless mob, completely without any kind of depth at all. That's not good if you're going to feature them so prominently. Having just 2 or 3 and developing them as major characters throughout the season would've worked so much better.

But since the writers couldn't even give Willow or Xander much character development in S7, why should we expect them to be able to do it for Amanda or Molly? Some people who don't like S7 criticize it by saying it became the "Buffy and Spike Show", and that Spike got way too much screen time. I don't think he got much more than he did in S5 or 6, but it just seems that way, since Willow, Xander, and Anya got so much less. Buffy and Spike were really the only ones who got any kind of character arc lasting more than one or two episodes.

But hey, the reason things like this stand out are that everyone involved set such a high standard for themselves in the first six years. Buffy at its worst is still better than almost anything else out there...

Yup. The more you watch seven the more you'll feel what a let-down season six was.

I won't explain myself because I don't wanna spoil little nuggets of joy that there are in here - and ,I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this - but season seven felt like the writers were setting up several spin-off ideas...? Anyone else feel that?

Hehe, yeah Dawn got her own mini-gang of Scoobies in the first episode and then we never saw them again...

Well, I know they offered Eliza "Faith, the Vampire Slayer", but she went off to do Tru Calling...

And season seven does not disappoint me so far! Lies My Parents Told Me was fantastic!! Dirty Girls was cool (ouch for Xander)!
Season 6 keeps getting darker in my memory as time passes- I still like it, but many eps are low on the re-watchability scale, I think.

EMBERS

I think Season 7 got a bad wrap because everyone knew it was the final season and most of the fans had preconceived notions of what they wanted...
and they weren't getting it.

Personally I think S7 is a lot better than S5 (I find Glory to be incredibly tedious)

of course I have to confess that I like Andrew way more than most of the Buffy fans did...
and I didn't expect Buffy to get married (LOL)

BTW you will love Angel's S5 when the two souled vampires really get into their sibling rivalry!

Yeah, I can see that, it's not going how I expected it to go, but that's not at all a bad thing.
TWO EPS TO GO!
(Storyteller had me rollin', especially when Andrew started with the 'skipping Buffy's speeches 'cause they're LONG' thing, LOL.)
