Not enough Xander? He was great, and a central part of the finale!!!
Not enough Willow? (see above!!!)
Everyone folded their arms too much? So it was a little chilly in Sunnydale before an apocalypse!
If you hated the way Buffy ended, all I can say is !!!!!!!!!
It was BETTER than Angel's ending!!! No?
You liked the way she died in season five, and think that should have been the end? !!!!!!!
Joss did right by us in the end, and I can't wait for season eight (The comic), and if you disagree with any part of what I'm saying, then like we say on the RWED, , the horse you rode in on, and the Capisin 38 engine in your next transport!!!!!!

There can be no other view here but mine, period.

Yeah, okay, the Potentials WERE a bit scream-y, BUT IN THE END THEY KICKED ASS!!!!! If you all weren't IMPRESSED by them as the flung demons back into the pit from which they came, !!!!

I'll try not to be too much of a target for Chrisisall's gunsights, but here goes:

I am an unabashed lover of Angel season five (next to season two, it's my favorite), so I won't say season seven is better. But I will say that I think the reason Joss gave Buffy a more "up" ending is to balance out the ending of Angel (or the other way around, since Buffy came first). And I won't say season seven was the worst season like others might. I think that barring season one, that distinction goes to season six.

My incessant rambling aside, I guess I fall into the neutral category regarding season seven. Neither love nor hate it.

Six was great in it's own way, Deep, so !!!!
And you don't have to love the entire season to see that Buffy's finale was GOLD!!! You think it was merely silver? !!!

Spoiling for another flame war eh?

The best thing about S7 was watching Caleb dismantle the scoobies at the vineyard, while elimating several of those annoying potentials.

Entirely pointy.

I've been rewatching season seven all week. I agree, it has some of the strongest episodes of the series. I didn't mind the potentials a bit, and like you said they came through in the end.
If I had any complaint, it would be that the finale was just one hour. For a show this important, it would have been great to have more.

Chris,

Now that I've got you all worked up, foaming at the mouth and such, let me just say...PSYCH!!! While S7 is not my favorite it sure as hell isn't the worst season by a long shot.

I thoroughly enjoyed Anya's inept social skills and Spike was one of the best characters on any show I've ever watched. I will say that I prefer evil Spike to lovestruck Spike.

Hey I loved season 6 and thought the end was great, but we hardly need to resort to violence. Just smile and say " good to know" when someone disagrees. Then you've acknowledged them and not agreed or disagreed just moved past since their opinion is of no consequence to you and the reverse is true for them

Relax Chris honey passion is good, but you're gonna have a stroke if you keep this up:)

except that Buffy's S7 ending preceeded Angel's by a year, so at the time Buffy ended they didn't anticipate Angel needing to end at all...
Joss was hoping to continue to run Angel for several more years and was surprised it was cancelled so soon....

IMO Buffy would have always have an upbeat ending because she was earning her rest. Her's was a shiny happy victory.

Angel would have always expected to have to continue fighting, there were never going to be any victories for him because it was all predicated upon the evil he had done before and his continuing need for redemption....
So we had two very different endings for two very different heroes.

And of course I've failed to keep up the angry ranting tone that ChrisIsAll set... so we'll belatedly add: and

I feel that the people who are still whining about the potentials need to rewatch Season 7, the fact is that even though there were a lot of them, very few of them got to speak... Our scoobie gang was still front and center. Andrew may have taken up more time on-screen, but personally I loved him and felt he had so much to offer, that I welcomed his contributions.

And people objected to the actors folding their arms too much? WTF?

so... er ... does that fit w/the whole theme of this thread?

(embers trying to fit in w/the cool kids)

I think most of the people were watching BtVS S7 through a filter of their own fan-crush/favorites:
the James Marsters fans weren't satisfied w/his screen time and the fact that Buffy didn't marry him
The Nick Brendon fans weren't satisfied with HIS screen time, and the fact that Buffy didn't ever date him
The Gay fans were totally freaked out that Tara died and didn't want Willow moving on (although I'll bet they'd have hated it more if Oz returned! At least Kennedy was also Gay)
everyone wanted THEIR ship to come in....

now (years later) they are over the resentments and ship wars, but they still haven't rewatched the season!
does that make sense to you?

Season 7 wasn't all bad. Dawn was getting friggin hot. I mean seriously her first day of school outfit? yummy.

Then there was the first potential to bite it. She was fine too. There in lies their first mistake. Killing the hot potential. Whoops shoulda killed the annoying brat kennedy. Then they tried to make up for it by not killing Xander. Again a mistake. Killing Xander would have upped the ante big time. Instead we get a weak eyepatch. Then they kill Anya at the last second. Who cares at that point? We weren't going to see her again anyway. Pssh. Pssh I say to season 7. I say they should have made Dawn a slayer and Willow evil and had them mud wrestle through season 8. Where's my contract and large sums of money Fox?

Angry [like, off]
Em, I think you nailed it, because when I first watched 6 & 7, it was after my harsh disappointment with season 5- I felt that they destroyed the framework of Buffy by giving us SO much depressing stuff culminating in Buffy's death, that I didn't even want to go on.
Some months later, curiosity and a need for closure (and some fans here :)pushed me to see the end, and I approached it like: Okay, kill everyone, make me cry, whatever...I just wanna see it. No agenda, no expectations. Imagine my surprise when I found myself loving it again!!!
Angry [back on]

although groosalug seems to forget that in buffy's season 3 encounter with the first she only had to trash a couple of hoodies and make it to the hilltop, it was hardly the epic struggle of season 7. the first just did a scary face and went poof.
