2. Winter (snow, month off of school, Xmas, Black and White shindig after New Years)
3. Summer (working non-stop, summer movies, great weather)
4. Spring (that transition between winter and spring I'm not to big a fan of, and spring just reminds me that four months of working myself to the bone is coming up)

Well, you see, my favorite college team (Notre Dame) hasn't won a bowl game since '94. My favorite pro team (KC) hasn't won a playoff game for that same span, minus three weeks or so. On the other hand, my favorite baseball team won the Series in '04 (and if you need to be told who that was, I'm not even going to bother ).

But I've always just been a baseball-first kind of guy. Better game, IMO. Richer history...

Well Notre Dame looks good this year from what I hear. I don't know about KC except that they shut out the 49ers (?) last week. Being a die hard Panthers fan I don't pay much attention to the AFC until it's playoff time. And of course I know who won the '04 World Series, it was the Yankees right? LMAO! Sorry, couldn't help myself. As much as I hate Baseball I was very glad the Red Sox won since I love the underdog and was born in Boston. I still find baseball to be sooo very boring though. At least you didn't say golf!

Season Three - Very High on quality. Buffy really found it's feet. With all the characters at their best. Great individual episodes and wonderful story arc. Powerful and challenging at times. Often chilling. Excellent. The mayor is pure genuis.

Season Four - Upon repeated viewing this is maybe the funniest of all the seasons. The crossover with Angel working to both shows advantage. Clearly written with love and all the cast and crew are now experts at this stuff.

Season Two - Wonderfully twisted and dark this season. The killing of a Slayer, The Introduction of Spike and Drusilla. The turning of Angel and Buffy at her most vulnerable and the death of Mrs Calendar!

Season One - Just great fun and Entertaining. Slightly riduclous but in a good way. Willow probably at her cutest.

Season Seven - A good conclusion to the show overall, but brought down by several inconsistencies in the mythology.
Hits are - The revenge seeking pricipal, viscious and brutal Caleb and the re-emergence of Faith.
Lows are: Willows 'all mighty' Magic, The Slayerettes, lack of commitment to Spikes 'Soul' and a strange Axe thingy?

Season Five - Strange direction for this show with too many conflicting issues: Glory/Ben cancelling out Joyce's illness. Dawns revelation coming too late to care. Too many designer haircuts distract from the narratives. Characters becoming distinctily unlikable (Willow). However Buffy's death is profound and definative. Touching at times.

Season Six - Not sure what is going on here. Buffy is a different person. Spike/Buffy relationship is wrong and ultimately damages the show. The angry sex issue is feeble and too adolescent. Willow is intensely unlikable and basically a different character entirely. The geeks are fun but drawn out and cracks show early on. One great episode though!

Buffy did it to try to feel SOMETHING, she had 'being dead' issues...

Addictions will do that to a person, and she was having problems w/Tara, which magnified everything.

But the Warren killing Tara thing got it VERY serious again.

Hey but she's Buff! Buffy of Buffdom and all round Buffness. She's beyond all that! She aint gonna let a little itch like death get in her way! Is she... er bollocks she is.... :(

Now on this one I'm going to go all out and hang the writers. I just think they missed the mark. The angry sex thing is just purile. Sorry....

Uh uh. She's a wuss. We all go through it. You just have to deal. Not take out the world. It was such a leap from the writers I couldn't go with it. Ok so she had a rough break, but I mean destroy the world over it!!! C'mon.... Nossir not having that one. Even Dawn didn't whinge as much when her mom died, and that is saying summit :P

In there lies the inherent flaw to it all. After all their inventiveness and ingenuity, scheming and chicanery all they needed to do was fire a gun! What! Kinda pees all over the Buffy myth don't it? I couldn't believe they went for that.

*Dusts off hands*

Ok so I may seem overly harsh in parts but season six, I watched once - and I really wanna try and watch it again, but it's just so desperately awkward I just find myself unable to re-watch it.

It feels like "Never say Never again" from the Bond franchise.. It's Bond... sorta...but really NOT bond y'know...?

My sentiments exactly. I haven't watched one episode from that season since the first time I watched it. I'll get around to it eventually, but it is kind of hard to do.

See it's funny, because I think season five works. Even given the rather irritating 'god' Glory/Ben and the minions (totally agree btw) and for some the less than watchable Dawn (who I thought was good, but understand the negativity she got) for the very direction it was heading to - that being

Select to view spoiler:

Buffy's death[/spolier] which I thought was profoundly done.

I'd even go as far as to suggest that Buffy as a complete TV show would have had greater gravitas had it concluded with season five instead of seven. (Even though I do kind of like seven too.)

Six just sits in there struggling to explain all this stuff and ultmately for me it fails to deliver. It does do well with Once More with Feeling which is classic Buffy and more inline with where the show had it's strenghts, but the attempt or contrivances to fracture characters relationships and personalities with it's prolonged angst and darkness just sorta left me...

Hey y'know it could just be me. I think I always loved and followed Buffy for the basic fact that it would entertain me, right from the Pilot.... I think maybe with season six I wasn't that entertained.

Yeah strange that. I think for me it goes back to what I was saying with Chris. That being that ultmately it isn't that entertaining. All of the characters are too disjointed from the characters we'd followed before and so it is very hard to gel with the show when you're struggling to like 'any' of the characters. If one or two were 'changing' then fine but there is a distinct feeling that they're all in a new phase....

The History of Chrisisall's Buffy obsession, part 1:

I came here in 2005 just having watched Firefly, all eager to talk about it and such, and peeps here said "You HAVE to see Buffy, Joss' only complete masterpiece!"
So I ho-hummed my way to Walmart and picked up season 1 on sale for $12, and surprise! I DID like it!!!
Then I got 2...but the tone had changed...it was a lot more brutal, especially when Ms. Calender exited.
So I got 3, and again the tone changed (and the picture got a lot more colourful)- it was more fun! Cool!
Then I got 4, and it was good, yet I missed the Library and (gasp) Cordy. Plus no Angel angst to speak of.
So I then got 5, and again, the tone shifted...sad, sad, and then SAD!!!!
I then sold all my DVD's but 3, determined to forget the bad/sad times.

Then a few months and a lot of Buffy withdrawal later, I got the Chosen Collection, and went from 1 to 7 in three months.

6 was disturbing, but not as much as 5 for me, and 7 was pure gold.

And that my story- I'm sticking to it.

Love/hate Chrisisall

Edit: I forgot my whole point! The show and even characters were never totally the same from season to season, so that's why 6 didn't seem as radical a change to me as it obviously did to others.

Seeing them write out Riley was painful, and more so because it didn't feel quite natural, you know, like it was Rebound Guy's time to get the boot...then Joyce got it, and by this time I was a kleenex-surrounded mess. Then "She saved the world. A lot" was the final nail in my emotional coffin. Nothing in six could total me like that, nothing.
And intertwined in this weepy rollercoaster ride was an irritating God (or so she called herself) whining about stuff, but not DOING much.

Many cite The Body as the best ep from 5, but my favourite is Fool For Love; The Body is just too damn hard for me to watch- and I've only seen it two times.
Personal baggage here: I came home to find my Mom passed also, however, she was in bed- still, it's kinda too close for comfort, but that was what the ep was about anyway- getting thrown out of our comfort zones. And as such, it was brilliant.

Still, the season has great moments I want to re-visit...

Yeah the way Joss wrote 'The Body' was incredible. I also don't want to repeat the experience of watching that either. I think I did Joss the honour of watching the episode then listening to his commentary, but after that. Nossir, too much weight for me!

That said I think Season Five's finale is one of the best. It so profoundly stated what being a Slayer was, giving all the build up before hand a significance, a meaning a value that concluded in one beautiful moment that established a slayers death as the act of preserving life.

Nicely put *Rembers Kirk blowing up the Enterprise- sorry for the needless sidebar*

The Gift is a great ep....and count me as one who actually likes Buffy Vs. Dracula.
And any ep with Buffybot.

Hmm... can't remember if I've responded before, so I'm responding again!

From best to worst:

5 - most consistant season, I love Buffy & Dawn, I love Joyce's role, I love Buffy not needing a man, I like Glory (she's funny)

6 - though parts of the season where weak, the parts that hit really hit. This is the most complex, grown-up, intensely dark season.

3 - okay... it could be argued that season three is a little more consistant than season five, but it doesn't have the same emotional depth. I love the mayor.

2 - amazing finale, almost everything after Innocence is gold, but... eh, there are lots of HORRIBLE standalones and the first half of the season in mediocre. Plus, I was never the biggest Angel fan.

7 - Say what you will, but it is a solid season. Overall, I think it doesn't give us the character growth of, say, season five, two, or six, but it has a bunch of great stand-out episodes and very few duds.

4 - I just couldn't get sold on the over-arcing plot. The intiative was a cool idea but the execution was horrible. Adam did nothing for me. It had some of the best standalones (Hush, Who are You, Something Blue, etc.), but they couldn't save the season.

1 - It is a lot of fun, but its just not Buffy yet. I do enjoy it, thought. Even "I Robot, You Jane". :-)

You're only saying that 'cause you're a girl. The Initiative WAS cool, and the James Bond-y ending was great!

Coz there was no season:
Two million, four hundred and sixty three thousand, five hundred and seventeen.... That's why we use comas.

Yeah, but I think it looks better without comas and obviously is not two million four and and sixty three thousand, five hundred and seventeen because that's only one number and there are seven seasons...I would use comas only if Buffy had ten or more seasons... Otherwise why waste the chance to not use comas...

Lexan I was just messing around. :D

However I find your lack of faith in the humble coma slightly disturbing.

CHAPTERANDVERSE

I found the first season, where Mal and the gang were introduced, the best.

The second season, where Saffron took over as captain while Mal had to tunnel his way out of an alliance prison, certainly had zest.

The third, with the birth of baby Wash Jr. and Jayne's decision to come out, was emotionally resonant.

The fouth, with the discovery that Shepard Book was Zoe's dad and Inara's decision to give up the life of a companion and start training as ship's mechanic, lacked credibility.

I look forward the the fifth season and the continued success of this wonderful show, and I salute Fox for its commitment to quality programming.

Ok slight ammendment here. I've just re-watched seasons five and seven and I think I need to change my order. Therefore....

1 - Season Three
2 - Season Four
3 - SeasonTwo
4 - Season Seven
5 - Season One
6 - Season Five
7 - Season Six

I have elevated season seven up a peg.

Select to view spoiler:

Dawn is a much improved character, Giles' return is welcomed and DB woodside is funny. The Slayerettes are annoying but on the plus side most of them are killed off! So that actually is more enjoyable second time around!! Lastly, Faith making a return is nifty!

*...and there was much rejoicing!*

Note: Two would be higher on my list if Angelus didn't seem to be wasting time- he plodded when he should have come on like a hurricane (same problem w/Glory). Oh, and the 16mm thing.

I didn't mind the 16mm stock. It gave it a more authentic look. Similar reason why I like Terminator to it's sequels. The dirt filth and grime add weight to it's theme.

That said I was happy with Buffy with a slicker look also, but by that time they could have released Buffy as a flip-book and I'd still have watched. After Season one I was intrigued, and genuinely charmed. Mid-way through Season two I was just plain hooked!

I guess Angel plodding was a character flaw. He savoured the kill, he regarded it as poetry and would detail each step as verse. I was into that side of his character, but yes ultimtately it was his downfall.

Thinking about it though they dispensed with that side of his personality when he went to Los Angeles.....

Keenly watching season seven with unfamiliar glee, once again! - TheSomnambulist
