If y'all DIDN'T hate the Potentials, don't have a long, negative rant on Kennedy, and really LIKED season seven, here's the thread for you!

Potentials...yeah, some of them were whiny, annoying even, but I thought they were interesting as a whole. And Kennedy WAS a brat; she admitted it! But she was ready to go kick demonic a*s long before most of the others!
Season seven had Faith, Principal Wood, Andrew, Caleb, those surprisingly moble blind people, Uber-vamps, and the best final episode of a series, EVER! I mean it was GREAT!!!( Even the one crappy ep had Dawn all dressed to kill!)

What's not to like here????

I loved season seven, and most of the potentials were awesome, but I hated kennedy. I hate kennedy because for some reason beyond my understanding, Willow fell in love with her.

It's like when your best friend is dating someone you know is wrong for them, you can't help but hate that person for being so wrong for your friend, that's how I feel about kennedy.

You always ask such good questions , Chrisisall !

I liked Kennedy as a potential slayer. She was feisty & accepting of her role.I just didn't like her as Willow's love interest. It was too forced.

I really liked season 7..
Buffy & the gang were all grown up ( no more silly teen angst) ,the First was an interesting and challenging adversary & Nathan was soooo creepy as Caleb .
Plus Faith was there & she is one of my all time favorite Joss charachters !

And before I forget......I think turrning all the potentials into activated slayers was brilliant !

Hey Bryce, did you see Faith in Angel season 4...I haven't. I was wondering if that alone made it worth buying (I'm not such a big Angel fan...)
I have Faith's appearance in season one though. GREAT stuff!

Entirely pointy.

I loved season seven. Some of the best episodes of the series. I liked the potentials (not so much Ronna).
I liked Kennedy. She was the perfect slayer potential: brave, intelligent and eager. I didn't mind her relationship with Willow ( except maybe Kennedy was a little young).
My only complaint was that Chosen should have been two hours. There was more story to tell.

Season seven lovin'

Edit: I'm also not an Angel fan, but I recorded every ep because I'm a Joss fan. Every Faith episode is spectacular. I think she shines brighter in Angel than she does in Buffy.

I actually just finished watching the series

It is worth it, if you like Faith's story .

While I'm not a big fan of season 4 in general, I think she really shines in those appearances

I haven't bought Angel's S4 either, but there was awesomeness: the beautiful Faith, the amazing [s]Zoe[/s] er...Gina Torres, and a VERY fun appearance by Alyson (Willow) Hannigan!
(maybe I need to watch it again...LOL)

And I really agree w/you about S7 of Buffy: I loved it, the potentials were not that annoying, and Kennedy needed to be the anti-Tara
(I never believed that Willow loved Kennedy nearly as much as she had Tara, your comparison w/Riley is very apt IMO)

You certainly do :D Season four had some great episodes.

Select to view spoiler:

In particular the spectacular battle with the beast mid season. The hilarious encounter between Fred and the human eating midget demon. Lilah. Faith. Angelus. SPIN THE BOTTLE! It's all there... Granted the whole Cordelia/Connor thing was cringworthy, but then the writers were backed into a corner with Charisma's pregnancy.

America loves a winner!

I'm finding it tough to remember any of the potentials besides Kennedy. To be honest, she's the ONLY one which I thought measured up as to being a Slayer. The only negative I had on her is that her and Willow hooked up. I can see how it might work for some, but I just didn't see the chemistry between them as I did w/ Tara and Willow. Not by a long shot.

A couple of things I'm sorta shady on, is this whole notion of potentials and the Slayer. We know in history there's only suppose to be ONE Slayer at any given time, but how many potentials are there ? Seems like there's a lot.

Select to view spoiler:

And then there's the transferring of Slayer power from Buffy. Was her power spread out to JUST the potentials, or all young women? And finally, was that power some how diluted because it was spread out so much, or was each young woman on level w/ Buffy in terms of strength, endurance, agility, etc....

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I did quite enjoy Season 7 and the Potentials. A couple of them could be annoying at times but hey, there have been more annoying characters on Joss's shows (Season 5 Dawn and pre-Season 5 Connor). I didn't however like Kennedy, she was a brat and I think Willow getting involved with anyone was just way too soon.

I loved Season 7, too. Didn't have a problem with Willow moving on, or that it had to be an anti-Tara type (by the way, who's more anti-Tara than OZ? ). I had a problem with Kennedy before she even got with Willow...when she had that disgusted kind of reaction to Buffy when she arrived in Buffy's house. Being Willow's next girlfriend only made it worse. I didn't hate Riley, though. Wasn't a fan originally, but by the time he was about to leave I really started to feel for him. Not necessarily as Buffy's boyfriend ('cuz that should be Xander--) but in general.

By the way, always wondered why I didn't remember you posting on the ANGEL boards. Now I know...

The way I understood it was thus:

Select to view spoiler:

All girls who would be potentials in the future would now become slayers too. Irrespective of their age, as with the little girl at the baseball game. As for wether the power would be diluted, I don't think so. I think it was the Slayer's power now in every potential.

How many potentials there are at any one time I think is indefinite, I seem to remember reference to that at some stage. (Season TwoI believe)

I always wondered if this meant that all these Watchers would now be called up too and if so where are they going to be coming from given that the council was blown up.[/spoilers]

never had a problem with the potentials except watching molly die! i liked her dammit!

Vi was my other fave - kinda willowy.
Kennedy - never had a problem with her as a jr Faith just never convinced by her as Willow's lover. and no, the chemistry isn't there but the actress plays her part fine in The Killer In Me and Aly always makes me cry in that.

season seven has some of my fave eps in it but as a whole... its qualities and flaws are exceedingly complex...
anyone else think it was planned to be 11 episodes long - to mirror season one more completely?

That made me smile. (and the fact that she asked Joss if Buffy ever really loved Spike. The answer was yes!!!)

The potential slayers were a good idea, and I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with them. What if Buffy in an alternate reality was a potential? We would have had a problem with her and her character.

Kennedy was new energy injected into the close group of Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles. I found her refreshing and energetic.

If the Kennedy character didn't work its because of the writers.

You just answered your own question.

They were an "interesting" (I stop just short of saying "good") idea, but they were handled badly by the writers. Hey, what else is new for S7, right?

There were too many of them, for one thing, and I'm not even talking about the house overflowing with about 40 of them by the final episode. The "core" group was really just five--Kennedy, Rona, Vi, Molly, and Amanda--but even that was too many new characters to just drop in all at once. Not only did they take screen-time away from the regular characters, the ones we tuned in to see, but they took screen-time away from each other, and we didn't get to know them as well as we could've if there'd only been, say, two or three.

And their characters weren't developed like they should've been, deeply enough to make us invested in any of them, but again, that's totally endemic of S7, because none of the characters were developed anywhere near as deeply as in seasons past. If the quality of writing had been as good in S7 as in, say, S2 or 3, the potentials probably would've had more depth to them, and people would've liked them better...

I would actually argue that Spike was developed more: he had just gotten his soul and we didn't know what that meant, but we also got to find out about his Mother's death ...

I would also say that Dawn was developed a lot more, when she thought she was going to be a slayer, and then understood she wasn't going to be,
when she insisted on fulfilling the promise (Buffy made at the end of Season 6) in becoming more involved, and not being forced to sit on the sidelines.

We got to learn more about Anya's past (one of the best episodes in S7)

I feel that people who hated season 7 were watching it with some heavy prejudice because they weren't getting to see what they wanted to see, but if you watch with an open mind: to see what Joss is trying to show you, then you'll find that there is a lot there!
