The FX network no longer plays Buffy. The fanbase for Buffy(at least in my circle) is at an all time low. Most of my friends have either forgotten what a great series Buffy was, or they just don't care because they are into all their new shows. On a side note, recently I told a co-worker to pick up Buffy on sale at Best Buy. He did, and he can't stop thanking me for the recommendation. It's really hard to work with him now because he can't stop talking about it. I know what's it's like, I've been there.

The reason I say this is because Buffy was once considered the next Star Trek in fandom.
Sadly, I just don't see this happening. Star Trek had a cast willing to do conventions to bring it back to life in the mid 70's. William Shatner, and Leonard Nimoy were always enthusiastic about what Star Trek was. I can bet anything Sarah Michelle Gellar is trying to distance herself from that sort of fanbase. Joss Whedon may visit the Buffyverse again one day on television, but it's a huge maybe. I like the comic book. I enjoy reading it, but I will tell you, it is nowhere near that entertainment value I had watching Buffy on tv. Great comic books, and Great tv shows are two entirely different things.

Do you think Buffy will make a comeback someday, or is it doomed to fall away only to be remembered on dvd?

It's alive and well in comic-book land...but as a show, it's over, I think. A new show with a new cast wouldn't do it for me...but what about a Fray show? That I could see working!
Or if Eliza wanted to do a Faith show sometime....

Joss will come up with something...always does.

They are playing Buffy on Saturdays and Sundays. I think Angel is still playing on TNT. Also there is the Comics (season 8) so Long Live the One True Slayer.

It's the way of things. X-Files got much bigger than Buffy, and it's not exactly a hot topic anymore.

Just last night I was watching Eureka and someone asked " Is this town built on a hellmouth?" I shot bolt upright and shouted whoo gratuitous Buffy reference...
So no I don't think Buffy will ever fade so long as we keep showing it to others...

Yes and no. Yes in that with general pop culture, it's a 90's relic alongside X-FILES and TWIN PEAKS. In Canada, it and ANGEL used to run on SPACE, but the last time I saw ANGEL on SPACE it was really late night, and the only time I ever saw BUFFY on cable was on this channel called RAZOR, which is some tween network. The last time I saw BUFFY referenced was in THE OFFICE. When Jim is in Stamford, there was a plotline about his ineptitude with Call of Duty and Karen's handlename was KarenTheJimSlayer. But I think this speaks more to a generation gap. The girls that watched BUFFY and idolized her are now grown up. I think if you were to ask any high school girl now who Buffy is, they'd probably mistake her for Claire on HEROES, and those would be the dorky ones who actually watch genre shows.

But no in that there will always be people who discover the show in different ways (it wasn't until I was into FIREFLY that I decided to see Joss' calling card and see what the fuss was about), and that there will be an online community keeping the flame alive, as well as tv critics who consider the show the best thing since sliced bread (which it isn't, the show and the bread). And of course there's the comic.

BUFFY may have burnt out a bit at the end, but it won't fade away completely.

I think there's still hope for Buffy. I mean, the whole Ripper thing seems to be taking off, and that's after four years off the air. And the comics have been mentioned in well-known magazines like Entertainment Weekly. We may never see the show on TV again, but the impact will always remain.

And let's not forget some of the unseen (well, less obvious) effects Buffy has had on television. If you think about it, the writing style used in Buffy virtually changed the way serialized dramas were written. Lost, Heroes, and tons of other shows all owe Buffy a huge debt. I think that I'm content knowing that fact alone.

Buffy will always be a part of my life, whether it's on tv or a comic book. If Joss ever gives it up, it will STILL be a part of my life.

As long as I can still afford a roof over my head, electricity, a dvd player and don't lose my eyesight, it WILL be an ongoing part of my life.
