Wolves at the Gate #4:

OMG! I thought this was wonderful! From the cover imitating the promotion still from "Shichinin no Samurai" (Seven Samurai), the whole Buffy and Satsu goodbye, the Will & Buffy banter (foreshadowing?), the Xander and Renee (sniff) goodbye, and, and. MECHA-DAWN! I posted on one of the boards that "Gojira" was appearing waaay too much and thought that the artists were just getting lazy with their Japanese. Shoulda known! Shoulda known!

Such a great way to end the arc! The multi-character ending reminded me of "Conversations with Dead People", one of my favorite episodes.

PS How did y'all hide the spoilers? I'd be happy to if I knew how!

I thought this issue was perfect!! The whole 4-part arc, really. I completely fell in love with Satsu and Renee, who were so much better than ANY of the potentials from S7 (hope Satsu returns later in S8), and I even ended up liking Dracula... which amazes me, since I hated the one episode of the show that he appeared in.

It's kind of funny that some people (on other sites) are actually being pretty harsh over MechaDawn, and complaining about how unrealistic it is. Um, hello--did you not watch the show for seven years? Warren managed to build a Buffybot--apparently in the span of about 2 weeks--so perfect that it even fooled her closest friends. The Japanese vamps had to have known about Giant Dawn way in advance, and it makes total sense that they'd develop a countermeasure against her in case the slayers tried to use her as a weapon against them.

I went into this arc as a huge Drew Goddard fan, and came out of it an even bigger one. The "Fray" crossover starts next month, and that should be awesome, but I think it's gonna be tough for anything to top "Wolves at the Gate" as my favorite arc of S8...

I liked how Xander got a spine viz Dracula at the end, "Call me manservant again and I'll kill you."

I am so happy to hear that others are still reading and enjoying this as much as I am!
I was really hoping against hope that Renee would be somehow pulled back from the brink of death....
I loved Xander's pain,
I loved Dracula's revenge!
I loved everything in this issue, especially the Dawn vs MechaDawn face off!!

I laughed and cried, and who can ask more than that out of one issue?

(I am also really loving Angel: After the Fall, issue #8 was last Wednesday and issue #9 will be NEXT Wednesday!!!)

well i HATED it until the last issue which pulled a number of really stunning feats - from the mecha-dawn hilarity to poor old xander.

but best of all was the pure BTVS dialogue - especially between buff and willow.

i actually think Goddard (or joss) made an impressive number of wrong decisions in the story telling (no not the -yawn! - satsu why is this even an issue issue)so such a great finale was a bonus.

no more frackin drac though. please. ever.

so... is satsu set to be the (sudden but inevitable) betrayer now??? place your bets! can't wait for Fray's return:)

I'm curious what about this issue would make you think that? And what the motivation behind her betrayal would be?

Because if it's jealousy, or anger at not being able to be with Buffy, long-term (as some people on other sites are speculating), I just don't see that AT ALL after this issue. Every indication all along has been that she went into this with her eyes wide open, knowing that Buffy wasn't gay, and never really expected anything long-lasting to come out of it. She resigned herself to this at the end of this latest issue, and took herself out of the situation, for her own good and for Buffy's (something Spike never did). I had a ton of respect for her by the end of this arc, for the maturity and class she showed.

Everyone seems to be expecting that if Satsu comes back later in the season and Buffy has a new honey, that she's gonna get jealous about it. I think it'd actually be really funny if Satsu shows up with a new girlfriend and BUFFY is the one who gets a little jealous...

Really? People think THAT? uh, wow. no- i'm with you - don't seee the likely there at all. But i seen enough tv, read enough comics to know any character left on their own can come back a villain ha ha!:)
