Is anyone else out there having problems with disc 2 not working properly? For some odd reason, mine won't load to the disc menu. It either won't load at all, or starts me off right in the middle of OMWF. At first I thought maybe it was just my set, but I've heard of a few other people that have been having problems. Hopefully it's not a defective disc in every set....

I bought the set yesterday and when I opened the package disc 2 was jostling around loose. No apparent scratches though. Just tried mine out in my standalone DVD player. When I tried to chapter-forward through the FBI warnings and such to the menu (which I can usually do without any trouble), I was dropped into the the first karoke selection for OMWF. I can see how you'd think this is midway through the episode, but if it is the same spot you ended up at(xander at the table), it is the start of a feature, not midway through the episode. I ejected the disc, tried again and let the disc play through and I got the main menu. All episodes and features play ok, but I notice a longer pause when browsing through menu categories than on the other DVD sets.

I tried both skipping through the title sequences and letting the disc play, and neither one worked for me. Whenever it would drop me into OMWF, it would either be at the cemteray scene at the beginning, or later on during the scene you mentioned. For some reason, the menu just will not come up on mine. But, if you guys have no trouble getting it to work, at least I know not ALL the sets are defective. Hopefully the next one that gets shipped to me will be one of the good ones!

Thanks guys!

Thought I'd chime in that disc 2's working fine for me, but I encountered another problem...

I'm actually wondering if anyone was having problems with disc 5, particularly the episodes "Normal Again" and "Seeing Red." Lots of skips, jumps and pauses, after which I tried cleaning the disc; didn't help, so I exchanged it for a new set at Best Buy, only to have the same exactly problems in the same exact moments, frame for frame between the old disc and the new one. "Normal Again" was fairly easy to get around the skipping once I replaced the set, but "Seeing Red" has issues at least once a minute - pause, skip, jump ahead, constantly. Tried cleaning the disc, nada, and I don't really want to go back to Best Buy and exchange it *again*. Anyone know if there was a factory error with this one?

We don't yet have our Season 6, but we did have a problem with disc two of Season 3. It looked like the disc had come loose in the box and was scraping against the spindle. You could see teeth marks all over the middle surface, and the center hole even has a slight crack in it. I don't remember how much of it played, but it definitely wouldn't play past a certain frame on either of the DVD players we tried it in.

We agonized about whether to go to the trouble of exchanging it, but then broke down and used a disc repair kit to buff the scratch out of the surface. It plays fine now.

I have had nothing but problems with every season of Buffy since season 2. I have exchanged each season at least TWICE and now just open them while I am still in the store to avoid having to come back. If the disks are not sliding around loose, they're scratched anyway and some disks (like disk 3 of season 6) appear to have nothing wrong with them but still skip around. I, personally, am glad that there is only one more season to go because I am tired of going through this bull.

Okay, I'm finally glad someone posted this thread. For season three the Disc 2 was loose, out of the tray. I guess the company found out people were mad. So, they made sure the discs were securely in there, but now it's so hard to get 'em out you're afraid you might break it. Is it just me or does someone else feel that way? Also, if your disc is skipping and its perfectly clean, try taking it back to store or if worse comes to worse buy another one, because is programmed wrong. It could also be your DVD player, because when I watched seasons 1-5 on my old DVD player it always skipped, but I got a new one and they play fine now.

Yes, the dvd player may be the actual problem for many people. I have had many problems playing my Buffy and Angel dvds on my own (older) player. However, when I play them on my brother's newer model (made by the same manufacturer), there's no problem at all. So before you (meant as "you", in general, not a specific person) start returning all of your dvd sets, try running the same disks in a newer model player. They may work fine.

I'm guessing that my problem is the fact that the disc has been programmed wrong. My first thought was, as several others have pointed out, that my DVD player was the problem. It does on occasion act kind of weird. But, I tried the same disc on my parents new DVD player, and my PS2 as well, and neither of them would load either. I ordered mine from Wal-Marts website, and they've been very helpful since I fisrt called them. I would have had my new set already if they wouldn't have forgot to send a return label with my first set. I had to wait a few days for them to send one out. I should have my new set in about a week or so. Here's hoping this one isn't defective!

I had the identical problem. I am using a Denon 2900 DVD player. I have had the firmware upgraded in the Denon, and I had Amazon replace my set of DVDs and nothing fixes the problem. There must be an error in how the Denon unit is handling the format of the disk. It would be good to know if you are also using a Denon player.

I've had problems with three of the Buffy seasons (including disk two season six - skips at the beginning of "once more with feeling"), an Angel Season, a Futurama season, and my Fellowship of the Ring set. The common link for all four is I got them from Amazon.

When I've exchanged all my disks at local stores (to impatient to wait for the postal service), I've had no problems, everything worked fine.

This means that either Amazon is playing hockey with my stuff before they ship it, or my mail carrier has it out for me.

Hi, mine is just two questions for those who have the Season 6 DVD's

1 Is the extended 53 minute version of OMWF on it?
2 I recently saw a fan vid using behind the scenes images from OMWF and I was wondering if these came from the DVD set? If you haven't seen this fanvid, you must. Its the last on the page at the following link 'Something To Sing About'

For number one, yes it is the full version. Number, i have no idea. There is a featurette for Once More With Feeling that is about 30 mins. Also, a easter egg from the CD signing. A bit off topic, but the Bargaining episode has a scene cut from it on the dvd. Where Willow kills the deer, this is mentioned in the commentary. Marti Noxon says that the scene was too graphic and removed completely. So, it's nowhere... not on FX, not on UPN, not on the DVD. I remember seeing the full scene though, which is still okay.

Thank you for replying with the info, does the OMWF featurette show them recording and practicing the dance stuff?

Its not like one day I won't buy the DVD without this info, I'm just curious. Also I wanted to know about the OMWF extended version because I have the OMWF, Hush, & original pilot DVD, which I considered selling, only if the uncut version of OMWF was on there.

BTW, anyone seen the unaired pilot? It was awfull! And I have never said anything Whedon has done was awfull, but this truely was. If you haven't seen it and want to, you can download it from buffy.nu, it has a different Willow, no Angel, and different library. As well as very cheesey vamp dusting. For those who had problems with how vamps' clothes dusted along with the vamp, this will show you why they decided to ignore this 'problem' and I am glad they did.
http://www.buffy.nu/article.php3?id_article=3590

Also, for anyone interested the site also contains the original Buffy/Spike sex scene from Smashed that was censored (therefore the uncensored version). I think it is evident why they made the choice to remove it.

A bit late, but I thought I'd chime in with my bit...

I don't have any trouble with my season 6 DVDs. The disks seemed firmly in place when I opened the box, and I'm using a Sanyo DVD player (probably a model made in 2003, as I got it new for Christmas). I did, though, have a bad season 3 set...the last disk had glue or something on it, and started skipping around Graduation, Part 2. We tried to fix it, and totally screwed up the disk. Tried to fix it another way, looked fine, but didn't work. So we exchanged it. Yeah. Pointless story. WOOT!

The deer killing scene is on the season 6 DVD...I vividly remember seeing it. Made me feel bad about Willow for a moment there...

And the OMWF featurette shows clips of recordings and dance rehersals. It's lots of fun, really.

Just to add my experience and 2 cents...I also had problems right out of the box with season 6 disc 2. Naturally I wanted to watch OMWF, so it was the first one I tried. It had been secure in the box when I got it, not flopping around, but the disc simply will not play back in my APEX AD-1200. I have never had any problems with this DVD player before, and own 100+ DVD's, and many more VCD's & SVCD's, both factory silvers and discs I've burned myself. This player tolerates a wide range of CD-R/RW & DVD-R/RW media, but won't play disc 2. My parent's likewise own an APEX AD-1200. On theirs the disc jumps right into scene 1 of "Life Serial", and refuses to go to the menus. The disc does read and play back on my DVD-ROM and DVD-R/RW drive (both pioneer models). I would definitely say based on my experience (also tested the Xbox & PS2 DVD playback with mixed results) and what I've read here that there's some subtle manufacturing defect here. Why it seems to affect disc 2 most, I haven't a clue!

FWIW, I'm envious though of what I've read in numerous replies about those of you who have been able to exchange this title. To my chagrin, I purchased mine at Best Buy and they refused to exchange it FOR THE SAME PRODUCT because it plays back on their store unit and so, in their infinite expertise, it can't be defective! Mindlessly adhereing to this ill-considered policy against even a like-for-like exchange has to be the single worst (and dumbest) customer satisfaction strategy I've ever experienced. For anyone who has had an experience of their own with faulty playback and who knows this kind of defect can and does happen from time to time, I would strongly discourage you from doing your shopping for such products at Best Buy. Their policy will very likely be to your detriment if you should encounter a defect. I for one will never again do business with a retailer that singularly mistrusts consumers who are only asking to receive a product of useable quality. Fox (and the fabrication shops they use) may ultimately be to blame here, but Best Buy added insult to injury...now I'm out US$45.00 or so and will have to buy another set to get something I can watch on my home theater!!!

Thank you so much!! I have had the worst time with it.I thought I drank too much also. That is the best episodes on the disk. I called fox and complained because I purchased it 3 times and I thought my dvd player was broken.I think since fox wuold not do anything about it we should get as many disgruntled people to write to Joss and let him know of the problem. If you could either get a way to post something to him and let me know Iwill get the ball rolling.

While I am here I thought i'd ask you Buffy fans a question about "Once more with feeling".

The song with Xander and Anya singing(you know the one where Anya is wearing that sexy little red number..) I am having some difficulty making out the words but it sounds like Anya says something like "his penis has diseases from something something something"... Am I close? or way off the mark? you listen to it again.. I am not making this up.

It's something along the lines of "his penis got diseases from a Shumash tribe". I might have misspelt 'Shumash', and it may be 'had' instead of 'got', but that's the gist. It's a reference to the Thanksgiving episode in Season Four, when Xander got syphilis from, well, an undead Shumash tribe. But not in the fun way you might be imagining...

What is the name of that episode?

Oh, and my DVDs work fine, but I have the Region 2 ones, so that's probably not very helpful of me.
