Taken from the IMDB, June 17th on the American side of the pond. The IMDB stole it from WENN, whom I believe are Brits. Anyway:

Quote:

Defunct TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer is set to be resurrected as a cartoon. Although Sarah Michelle Gellar will not reprise her leading role in the new series, creator Joss Whedon has reportedly recruited Giselle Loren - the video-game voice of Buffy - to speak for her in the pilot. Cast members Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon and Anthony Stewart Head are returning to voice the animated versions of their characters.

So, we all wondered what was up with that..... and there we are. Hmm.

Yup, a pilot has been greenlit, but nobody has agreed to purchase the show yet.

Point of interest: Jane Espensen, popular Buffy writer, has produced (or is producing?) three scripts for future episodes, should the show be picked up.

As long as Mutant Enemy is behind it, I'll be sitting in front of it :)

I'm sure the kids will love it. Being a fan for years, I've realized that Espenson writes the most ANNOYING episodes of Buffy, right up to and including her "Firefly" episode.

But yeah, the kids will love it.

Heh, yeah, Espenson is one of those love it/hate it writers. I'm on board with you for the most part, but I did enjoy the episodes "Earshot" and "Superstar" (I really liked Jonathan's character), and I also enjoyed the ep of Angel that she wrote, "Rm w/a Vu." It was the one that introduced Cordelia's "Phantom Dennis."

I think that "Shindig" had some pretty redeeming moments, as well.

I guess I fall into both camps. Espenson wrote both some of my favorite (which you mentioned above) and some of my least liked episodes (Can you say, "Doublemeat Palace"?). She seems to either hit home runs, or she strikes out. But I think she's had more good ones than bad... I really like the way she often just uses the definition of a word to make a joke. Such as...

Apathy on the Rise. No One Cares.

I have to wonder how much of that is Joss-rewrites. THe entire concept of Atherton Wing drove me insane. It was like she's projecting the romance novels she read as a teenager into my TV show, and ruining it.

True, Earshot, good. But those are few and far between... mostly we get the teenage-girl whining, personified by Mr. Wing, yes, but moreso the 2nd episode of Season 4, where Buffy was just having a prolonged fight with her roommate for the first 45 minutes. True, it got hysterical for the last 15... but the wait wasn't worth it.

Anyway, glad she got work. Away from the movie. :)

ok. here a list of all Buffy EPs Jane Espenson wrote:

Band Candy
Gingerbread
Earshot
The Harsh Light of Day
Pangs
Doomed (cowritten)
A New Man
Superstar
The Replacement
Triangle
Checkpoint (cowritten)
I Was Made to Love You
Intervention
Afterlife
Flooded (cowritten)
Life Serial (cowritten)
Doublemeat Palace
Same Time, Same Place
Conversations with Dead People (cowritten)
Sleeper (cowritten)
First Date
Storyteller
End of Days (cowritten)

and I as a Giles fan am pretty much a fan of Espenson, she wrote some of his best EPs. The only two out of all of these that relly get on my nerves are Superstar and Storyteller.

"Living Conditions" the EP were Buffy fought with her roommate was as far as I know written by Marti Noxon.

just wanted to post this so people see how many and what kind of EPs she wrote so anyone can form their own informed opinion.

Yeah, overall I'd say she was definitely a plus for the Joss 'verse. I'm glad that Idefix listed all of her Buffy episodes. I didn't realize that she had written so many. I didn't remember that she wrote "Band Candy", which was one of the funniest ever. And whoever mentioned that she wrote Giles really well was right. Some of those episodes are the ones that best establish his character. Granted, there are some clinkers, but nobody's perfect. Even Joss (Shudder, Gasp) has written an episode here and there that wasn't stellar.

Overall, I'd say: Jane Espenson, good; "Doublemeat Palace", bad.

My bad.

She does write existing characters quite well, and while I still think Atherton Wing is just silly, it was actually Marti Noxon I was thinking of, as someone has dutifully corrected me. Thanks, sorry about that.

I'm far too lazy to write out all of Noxon's Buffy episodes, but they can be found here:

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0637497/

I really, really disliked "Living Conditions," as I previously mentioned, and "Buffy vs. Dracula," though occasionally hysterical, was really just a betrayal of the characters and the plotline.

Anyway, Espenson rocks, Noxon less so. That's what I meant.

Espensen is one of my favorites. She doesn't have the suckerpunch effect that Minear and Whedon are so good at, making her episodes often less memorable, but for dialogue I think she's awesome.
