Ok so not the witchblade, but the trademark I-am-the-chosen-so-I-get-a-weapon weapon. Why does she have one? Has there been any refrence to this in the show outside of the "I have something of her's" Caleb stuff?

SHAZZAI

The 'scythe' (am I the only one that can see that it's an axe?) is the weapon that the 'future-slayers' use in Joss's comic book "Fray".

Not only that, but this episode explains a LOT of things that were somewhat HAZY in that series. =)
