Anyone hear the winners of teh Creative Arts Emmys? Family Guy beat Buffy's Musical for best musical direction. Now I ehard the song that won for FG, and it wasn't the greatest. Hey I'm a fan of FG, but I think we all know that Buffy deserved this emmy, and why wouldn't Hinto Battle be nominated for best Guest Star, he centainly deserved it, never mind being snubbed.

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

Face it, Buffy will never get any big name awards. It's teenage horror, for crisakes. Too much prejudice. The fact that the show so consistently transcends its genre just goes right by most people.

Actually Buffy stood a good shot at getting the Music Direction Emmy since the show has, in fact, won "technical Emmys" before (having won for Make Up and for Music Composition in the past). They'll never win the "creative" awards but that is a different ball game (though ironically Buffy did get nominated for the fledgling AFI Award for Best Dramatic Series this year). What I'm wondering is why Buffy hasn't gotten nominated for the WGA awards at all (Harlan Ellison won 5 so there obviously isn't a bias against Sci-Fi).

"It looks like a great adventure...That's what it is; that's what it feels like. When I saw the pilot, it was really engaging. It was exciting. It was unusual. It threw me off every now and then. I think people will be grabbed by it." - Ron Glass, on the pilot, during an interview with the Indianapolis Star

Also, as a guide, here are some major nominations/wins for Buffy over the years in various awards. Please note that this is by no means complete but rather a brief run down on the awards/nominations that I feel are significant:

The Emmy Awards:

1997 Nomination for Best Make Up for a Series

1998 Nomination for Outstanding Hairstyling, Wins For Best Music Composition (Chris Beck) and Outstanding Make Up for a series

1999 NOminations for Outstanding Make Up for a series and for Outstanding Sound Editing

2000 Nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Dramatic Series (Joss Whedon's famous "Hush" episode), Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera series (also Hush), and Outstanding Hairstyling for a series.

2002 (current) Nominations for Outstanding Make Up for a series (prosthetic), Outstanding Music Direction for a Series (Chris Beck, Jeff Tobias for OMWF),

Saturn Awards

1998 Won for Best Network Television Series

1999 Won for Best Genre TV Actress (Sarah Michelle Gellar), nominations for Best Network Series and for Best Genre TV Actor (Nicholas Brendon)

2000 Nominations for Best Genre TV Actress (Sarah again), Best Genre Network Series, Best Genre TV Actor (Nicholas again), and for Best Genre TV Supporting Actor (James Marsters)

2001 Won for Best Network Television Series and for Best Supporting Actor on Television (Marsters), also received nominations for Best Actress on Television (Gellar), Best Supporting Actor on Television (Anthony Stewart Head), Best Supporting Actress on Television (Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg)

2002 Won for Best Network Television Series and James Marsters received the Cinescape Genre Face of the Future award. Also recieved nominations for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor (Marsters), and Best Supporting Actress (Hannigan and Trachtenberg)

AFI Awards

2002 Nomination for AFI Dramatic Series of the Year (which was won by The Sopranos)

Golden Globe Awards

2000 Nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Dramatic (Sarah Michelle Gellar)

Hugo Awards

2002 Nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation (Once MOre with Feeling)

Television Critics Awards Association

2000 Nominations for Best Drama Program of the Year and Best Program of the Year

Viewers for Quality Television Award

2000 won the Founders Award (note: This was the last year that the Viewers for Quality Television was in existence)

Again I should note that there are numerous other awards that Buffy has been nominated and/or won (the GLAAD, Internation Horror Guild, and Golden Satellite awards to name 3) but this should serve as a decent enough primer on Buffy awards.

Sorry, my mistake, I meant Technical emmys, not creative.

Don't I know it. Most of my friends and all of my family make fun of me for washing BtVS and Angel as often as I do. These shows are really underrated, and they're among the best shows on television. I've just about given up trying to get anybody I know to understand what I'm talking about.

I, too, get a lot of the "aren't you too old to watch that show?" flack. But the ironic part is that IF you can convince someone to watch Buffy, they realize how awesome it is. Once they get past the title and the assumption that it's some sort of 90210 with vampires.

EXACTLY! I used to totally tease my friends Mike & Cavin for watching the shows so religiously. Then I watched one episode, and I am now more of an addict than they are! I will be heartbroken if they cancel the show next year without another decent spinoff.

Help me out here, Spock. I don't speak loser.
