I realize Fall 2003 will be Buffy spin-off free, but there's always the chance for a new show further in the future.

I get the feeling that ME is developing some of the newer characters... Andrew, Wood (pun not intended Mother Love Bone fans), the Potential Slayers, etc... in order to keep ALL of its spin-off options opened for main and supporting characters alike.

A Willow series would need a fighter of some sort. Since neither Buffy nor Faith will be around, why not have a son of a Slayer? Imagine if Wood and Spike were to be eventually developed into brothers-in-arms in the fight against evil.

Which Slayers-in-training do you think will survive (if any... remember in Fray Buffy is referred to as the last Slayer of the original line)? Which actor portraying a SiT has the chops to be a major player in a spin-off?

Joss said he was done with TV, but prehaps he only meant original series? Or prehaps he said it out of annoyance at firefly being canceled(hopefully still not for good)

I wouldn't blame him for being fed up right now....

The last thing I heard was that Jane Espensen suggested--at a recent speaking engagement--that Joss Whedon's post Dushku departure, "fallback" spinoff concept--of a Slayer in Training Academy of sorts, possibly with Willow and Kennedy as Head Mistresses--"didn't feel right," and unless Whedon decides he feels differently, there would be no Buffy spinoff.

I was stunned to hear this, since the spinoff was practically referred to as a done deal in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly in which SMG announced her retirement from Slayer-hood. The show was pre-sold, had a built in audience...and it was just a matter of when. Then, poof. By all accounts, it's all over.

What happened at Mutant Enemy, anyone know? What's going to get them through the lean period, should there be no Mutant Enemy programming on the airwaves next Fall?

Well, I can't say that I'm sad the Slayer academy idea didn't work out, 'cuz that's really not a show I'm interested in watching.

As for the lean period, I have no real info, but if they're smart and they've got a chunk of their syndication rights they'll have both Buffy & Angel in syndication next year, which should bring in some money.

How can this be so? Canon hasn't been specific about whether Buffy's death would activate a new slayer(Buffy herself seems to think it might at least), but we all know by now what Joss has to say on the subject. So is the power somehow destroyed in the active slayer(second slayer)while Buffy is still alive? I only ask 'cause I haven't read Fray. I'm a bad fan!

I second the SIT school idea as just being bad. All the "amusing" hijinks would probably drive me insane.

Fray takes place far in the future. The story is about the first Slayer to be called upon in centuries. Kinda Buffy meets Blade Runner. Whedon, who wrote the series himself, keeps the specifics about what happened to the last Slayer very vague. Fray's Watcher knows very little about the Slayerless years and what he describes sounds less like studied history and more like folklore. Did I mention that Fray's Watcher is a full on big-horned demon?

It's been months since I read the first six issues of Fray... perhaps someone who has read it more recently can elaborate.

Issues 1-8 of Fray will be collected into a single volume this summer, I believe, so you can catch up!

There is still ANGEL people...or does everyone here think that show is as good as canceled. I'm a big Angel fan myself.

Yay! Now I'll have something to delay the shock of Buffy being gone from setting in.

I don't even want to think about Angel not coming back, as many gripes as I have with the show I still can't help loving it. Network TV would be practically useless to me too.

Yup. Published by Dark Horse Comics. Issues 1-6 are available now (tho probably not at cover price anymore unless you're lucky... pesky comics always creeping up in value). Issues 7 and 8 are overdue but should be out in the next month or two and then the compiled edition of the whole series comes out just after that.
