You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I looked it up, and it seemed to mean a poem or song that was fan-related; often a parody. But there's way more than that in the BSR from what I see. Is it acceptable to post personal poems and/or poems not relating to Firefly? Because I have a whole lot, but never thought of posting them.

having just attended Apollocon that had all night filk jam sessions, the folks involved consider it anything modern created to sound old, songs written for fiction books, everything the bedlam bards have done, Steve McDonald was their FILK guest of honor at ApolloCon.

It seems to include poetry as well, do a google search for Lee Martindale, she is an amazing author and another filker, and a very shiny browncoat to boot, she attends lots of conventions and I know she can better explain filk than the tone deaf artcat

Browncoats are the shiniest folks in the 'verse

I can tell ya where 'filk' cam from!

legend has it that once upon a long time ago there was a SF convention. At the conventions there was sometimes a program track called 'folk singing' where folks'd sing either real folk songs, sing their own original songs with their own lyrics or do the time 'honored' tradition of borrowing the music and making lyrics for their chosen subject.

Anyway, at this particular convention, they planned on a folksing. One problem. The printer made an error on the programs. Instead of 'folksinging' it read 'filksinging.' The new word caught on like 'Flan,' and we've used it for musical parodies and the like ever since.

Until I got here, I'd never seen poetry put under filk, but hey, if no one minds, I shouldn't see a problem.
But.....I think there is a separate place in the BSR for poetry, isn't there? It just appears that no one actually puts anything there.
As for posting non-FF related items...got me.

(who is contemplating being the first person to actually post a poem in the poem section. Now she just has to write it. )

The poetry section is a sub-category of the Fanfic section. I've seen a few.
