I was wondering if there were any resouces out there in the verse that deal with Guild Comapnion law, ive been on fireflywiki.org and googled it, but to no avail. If any one has any notions about where i could find suck information i would be very greatful.

You might want to try the Serenity RPG. There's a lot of information in there that could be useful for writing a fan fic.

Yep, that RPG book is a good resource for things never mentioned in the series. (I wouldn't know, though, as I don't own it.)

Otherwise, information is just plain vague.

We know from the show:

1) Companions choose their own clients.
2) Companions undergo a physical examination (at least) once a year.

Not stated as laws but helpful to know:

Companions start training as young as 12. Discipline is the first lesson and the last. Practical sexual education doesn't start until way later. Lessons are obviously varied, as they include self-defense, weapons training (for sport, as far as we know) and music, among more general things.

The Guild will react with shunning when a Companion ( in training?) destroys their musical instruments in a fit of rage and leaves them.

There is a client registry. You can get black marks if you so much as insult a Companion.

At least one Guild House heavily features Buddhist/Hindu style, which indicates a religios inclination in that direction, which again would inform the spirit of Companion life/rules/education in general.

That's all off the top of my head.

Also (and I wish I had read this before writing my fanfic) according to the RPG (which isn't quite cannon, but is basically cannon), Training Houses and Companion Houses are, "run much like monestaries, protecting its inhabitents and sheltering them from the outside as they undergo their training. The services a Companion preforms for the client are steeped in tradition and ritual. A Companion greets a client and bids that client farewell with a ceremony, and the act of lovemaking is designed to make the client feel that he or she is special and valued -- only one of the reason and evening with a companion is so highly saught after.

"...a Companion is trained to listen, to entertain, to sooth, and even to offer advice, for they are well-versed on any variety of subjedcts from politics to the economy. A Companion known treditional and contemporary dance. They are skilled musicians, schooled in literature and stay surrent with all signigicant newsworthy events. They have a degree of empathy are a trained in psychology, so they can understand their client's need.

"The beauty, elegance, and skills of the companions have earned them the highest respect in social circles. there is no stigma to bringin and Companion to a party, as doing so proves that you have both money and the ability ti impress the Guild, whose members set very high standards. However, few companion marry the wealthy prince and go off to live in the glittering castle. While of the social elite, Companions still exist outside society. Though a Companion is welcomed as an escort at a party, a Companion would not be so well-recieved as a husband or wife. A Companion might commit to an exclusive, long-term contract, but that would still be a bussiness arrangment. A Companion is encouraged to enjoy the work, but is taught to stay emotionally detatched from the clientele."

Also:
A House may never be run by a man

There are male and female companions; originally, there were only females

Children who fail artists (song, dance, calligrapy, etc) and academic training are sent home. Love making is taught after schooling is completed.

Companions must pass a test to get their license, and take a year medical exam to maintain it.

Clients pay a fee to be listed on the registry, and then must be approved by the Guild.

All Companions, male and female, service both sexes (though, clearly, some have preferences).

What about law regarding relationships? this is what i need for my fic. I Take it Dating is discoraged, perhaps even an excomunicative offense if the guild isnt informed? Anything like that?
Arcadia, must say, thanks, try awsome post you will be in the credits of my fic. in fact all of you deserve a mention.

I don't have the RPG book, but I do have the Visual Companion, and that had much the same stuff in it. The key elements Joss had in mind for them were a Geisha-like existence. He also mentioned 'social or political prominance' when they retire. So, a Companion House is a serene place of teaching and contemplation (visually, think of Tibetan monasteries, or something like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon') My take on them was influenced by how much I thought they sounded like the Bene Gesserit in 'Dune'.

Inara said that their rules for dating were 'complicated'. I suspect that it might well be like the geisha, in that they (geisha) can have a sole 'protector', but it is still a business arrangement, and if they have a personal relationship outside of that, they may well lose that protector. For Companions - A personal relationship would probably be off the books, as it were, with no money or gifts able to change hands? And the other party would have to abide by the fact that the Companion may still be seeing clients? Wikipedia is a very handy source for basic info on Geisha and other courtesan cultures.

Of course, if in doubt, make it up and call it AU. Good Luck.

It doesn't say much regarding dating in the RPG. I am guessing however, that Companions are allowed to have lovers. In Trash, Inara tells Mal, "You are not my lover... nor my mother not my house mistress nor anyone who has any say in how I run my affairs" (not a direct quote). Now, she might have chosen that phrasing just to rile Mal, but its also possible she chose that phrasing because she has had lovers, and they have has a say in how she ocnducts her affairs. It's just, as implied in Ariel I believe, complicated.
