-EDIT- Unfortunately, while attempting to modify the collar on this jacket, I managed to destroy the neckline by shredding the leather. I have decided, after about ten minutes' thought, to discontinue offering a female verion of the leather Browncoat. I am aggravated at the moment, and I have no desire to re-pattern this coat, re-cut it, and assemble it. The leather required is a lot thinner than on the regular coats, and as such, is much more fragile...lending itself to tearing easier. Therefore, I will stick to making Mal's version. I apologize to the ladies, but I am still going to develop Zoe's cloth coat. Thank you all for commenting on the coat; I'm sorry it did not work out at this time. ______________________________________

If yours is the only order I have, and I don't have any problems getting ahold of leather, it only takes a week maximum to build one. I have a leather source that is local, so I can actually see the leather before I buy it, but they only restock every now and then...and I have almost bought them out already! That is why I decided to try to find a suitable cloth alternative, as well. ______________________________________

Oh Tristan! This is GORGEOUS!!! I would love to have one but I only just got a job and I'll only be making about $400 a month. I just may have to look into one of those cloth versions you mentioned. Although....Christmas is on coming up...so is my birthday...Maybe I can talk someone into gifting one of these to me. Or would it be possible to do some sort of payment plan? Thank you, Kayna! Yes, they do make wonderful gifts! I am really hoping to have the cloth versions ready sooner than I expected...I will see if I can light a fire under myself... As far as payment plans, that's not really an option...I don't collect any money up front, and don't actually create an invoice until after the customer has seen photos of the finished coat and approved the purchase via email. It's only then that I get a return. I am sorry about that. ______________________________________

Neko and I have been talking about what the Zoe coat is made of. We have no idea. It doesn't really drape like leather, but kinda looks like it. DanicingNeko...yes, it isleather...and you need one...it would go great with everything you own...you need a leather Browncoat.... PR...huh. Never thought of that. Her coat looks like a duster of some sort ("really Tristan? never woulda thunk it, genius!" ), which means either a fine wool or some sort of cotton duck...it may be something I'll tackle down the road aways...thank you for the photos! ______________________________________

PR, "duck" is actually cotton...sort of like canvas...it has a very plain weave and is usually waterproofed. I was thinking of building a coat like that for my Independent soldier outft. Thanks again! ______________________________________

So far, attempts to create a good-looking version of the Browncoat in cloth have failed miserably. I spent the last two days and about $150.00 on sueded cloth...and none of the attempts look any good. Mostly in the collar area, but the cloth itself does not lend itself well to making a coat. I will probabyly try a few more, assuming I can find some decent cloth, but I have pretty much given up right now. I'll be experimenting further with the Zoe vest next, and will hopefully have that available in the next few weeks. (This week will be taken up with moving the ex out of the house) I have one or two more local fabric stores to hit, so hopefully I will find something that works. The more I think about it, the more likely I am to just stick to leather Bronwcoats. In looking at the photos of Zoe's coat, though, I am very intrigued. I am pretty sure that was her coat from the war, or a very close copy of what she wore. As I am interested in creating an Independents soldier's outfit, it would stand to reason that I would need to make the coat, too...so, I think instead of the cloth Browncoat, I will make this type of coat instead...also in a male and female version. I will be hitting the photo sites and re-watching Firefly (darn!) to see the coat better. Thank you all for suggesting this...I shall endeavour to create one! Hell's Kitten, thank you for the link...I have that bookmarked now! As to seeing it on a model...I, uh...seem to have lost my in-house model. I was planning on making one that fit my sister-in-law, but it may be a spell before I can get pictures of her in the coat online. I will try to get it done quickly! Or, hey! I could model it for y'all! I'd just have to pad the proper places... Serenity, thank you! I will remember! DancingNeko...well...alright, you got me there. But, if the Independents coat works out... As far as the fabric it's made out of, I am pretty sure it's in the cotton family. Judging by the way it falls and the way it creases/wrinkles leads me in that direction. FloralBunny, I understand. Though how someone ever convinced you to do something you did not want to do is beyond me! Thank you all again! The next thing I hope to post will be the Zoe vest, followed shortly after by the Kaylee jacket. That's right! You said you would be working on a Kaylee jacket! I was so caught up in the brown coat that I totally forgot the little remark. Do you have any idea how much one of those is going to caust? It's a great little jacket. Cute cut, beautiful color and all. (Can you put a patch there and claim that it was in battle and repaired or somesuch?) (Considering how many times I'd have to tear a seam out to sew on cloth... ugh!)
