Now bear with me on this....

We all Love the 'verse. Sci/Fi evidently knows this, and the Numbers the series draws, because they still run Marathons of it. The latest one will be on December 12th. We all want More, as in another Movie, or a new Series along the lines of the original. Well, I'd like to suggest the next best thing, because if it happens it could very well Lead to a New Series/Movie.

Why don't we all e-mail Sci/Fi and suggest that they present Firefly in a revised format as a Summer Replacement Series? It wouldn't cost overly much, and will give revived life to our favorite Show.

Here's what I have in Mind:

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One Episode. Show the Series in the dvd Format, the way Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Sci/Fi could have each Episode Introduced by one of the Show's Cast, perhaps a different one each time, and Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Guest Host" can intro an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or trivia at the end of each Installment. Show one per week, on the same designated night, just like a regular Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It'll be a blast for those of us already familiar with Firefly, and Introduce an entirely New Audience to it as well. This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel.

If anyone would like to e-mail Sci/Fi about this idea, please feel free to cut and paste my little outline.

The address for Programming Suggestions is:
feedback@scifi.com

Thanks! TD/Tim

I meant to get to this thread yesterday, but my Big Damn snowstorm kept me in a splotchy internet connection and I didn't make it.

This is an excellent idea and it's being received over on the SciFi ( skiffy) board with genuine enthusiasm. There are folks writing and shouting the excitement over this idea.

This would be so much fun, to see this on our tv every week, with one of the BDH's introducing it and perhaps sharing a bit of trivia throughout the show. I think that SciFi would enjoy rave reviews for doing it and lots of BC's watching and buying the products advertised.

I think it'll get noticed over on that board too.
The admin over there sees when the Firefly board swells with posts and which thread gets the most hits. I'm not only going to write SciFi but also direct them to the excitement on that thread. They need to see how many BC's are interested in this and will watch.

If you haven't already signed up over there, do so please. If you haven't already taken part in this idea... it's so fast and so easy.. please do so. Who knows what a Firefly filled summer would net us in the long run? How could the women who watch SciFi channel for other programming resist our little show that can? Not to mention our Cappy, who they can introduce with the added caveat of being a member of the cast of "Lost"! Plus all the fans of Heroes and SG-1.. how can they resist our shiny crew?

This idea is good on so many levels... it will only take people writing in and requesting it in enough #'s to make a difference.

Someone on the skiffy board said they hoped an executive who decided programming would take this idea and run with it and even take the credit.. because it was sure to be successful for SciFi.

TD, thanks for coming up with this! And may you get credit even if that executive does...you sure will in my book.

oh, don't tease me like that! do you really think it's possible, a fresh take on our show, possible new recruits to the cause, a revival of interest that might lead to a new season and/or new movie?!?!? i'm so excited i don't know if i can wait till next summer! do it now, do it now!!!!

Honestly one of the best ideas i have heard. Just sent my e-mail to Sci-Fi. Just to put into perspective how good i thought the idea was, i have never actually done anything to save the show, bar BDM and BDS buying spree. I think this could be the love that keeps our good ship and crew out of peril.

Sikrea

Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her home.

If anybody out there has a way of letting the BDHs and Joss know about this idea, it would sure be Fun to have them on board!

Thank you, everybody, for seeing this as a "Doable" idea. By all means, send e-mails out to Sci/Fi. With Flan and the Holidays coming up, I imagine a lot of folks are distracted and unable to send e-mails right now. So, in addition to what we're already doing, I'd like as many as can to send snail mail and e-mails on the 1st of January. FollowMal has promised that she'll have a Snail Mail address to the right people for us before then.

We Can get them to hear us. It's up to them to see that it'll work! TD/Tim

Y'know, with the FF Marathon coming up on the 12th, that date might be a good day to both e-mail "Thank yous" to Sci/Fi for doing the Marathon, AND a good day to drop some e-mails their way about this little "Firefly: Relit" project.

Opinions?

I know a lot of people are distracted by Flan right now, but a little "word of mouth" to other BCs about this would sure help until we can launch something a little more organized around Jan 1st. If you can, definitely do the double e-mail thing for the FF Marathon on the 12th of this month (1 week away!). Thanks a bunch!

TD, I'll try to get a BSC post done up that the crew can send out the Monday before the marathon.
They can send it out.. and someone cover my posts til I return on Wednesday to follow it up.. because thanking a day or so after and suggesting this idea will not hurt.

We'll make it about the marathon and the Relit project.

Please don't forget:
Sci/Fi's Firefly Marathon is tomorrow from 8am-4pm!

It's a good idea to send them a "Thank you" e-mail, and it wouldn't hurt to remind them of the "Firefly: Relit" Idea as well. Here's the e-mail I'm sending:

To the Sci/Fi Programming Staff:

Firefly is one of your more popular shows; Check the
Numbers from the last few "Marathons" you've had of
it, and I'm sure you'll agree that it's still quite
popular. It's also in the Interests of NBC/Universal
that it BE a popular Show. The Film Serenity is doing
well in DVD sales, and Firefly's popularity certainly
ties in.

So... Here's what I have in Mind:

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One
Episode. Show the Series in the dvd Format, the way
Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Sci/Fi
could have each Episode Introduced by one of the
Show's Cast, perhaps a different one each time, and
Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Guest Host" can intro
an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or
trivia at the end of each Installment. Show one per
week, on the same designated night, just like a
regular Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can
Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It'll be a
blast for those of us already familiar with Firefly,
and Introduce an entirely New Audience to it as well.
This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly
to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel. Also, if
Sci/Fi is in line for the non-paying Cable Premiere of
Serenity, this would be the PERFECT Tie-in! I hope you
all give this some serious consideration. It could
certainly work, to the benefit of all concerned.

Sincerely,
Timothy Dale Brown

Well, here we are folks, it's Marathon Day!!
I hope you're getting to watch Firefly and I hope you're getting your keyboard tuned up to say thank you and write SciFi about this idea.

Wouldn't it be awesome to see this series over the summer?

While at the Browncoat Backup Bash, during Tim Minear's presentation we saw a bit of "Ariel". It really brings home to see it again, just how shiny this series was! I'd been busy preparing for what was supposed to be Flan and doing some guerilla marketing before I left. So I'd not seen the eps in a bit. Oh, how I'd love to see this series presented this way over the summer months!

I'm enlisted, along with all my mates. And I caught the marathon from work. (I hope I don't get fired).
You sir have requested a revolution (that's my story and I'm sticking to it) We shall make it happen. Now if I can just find that stupid intern in the IT department to light himself on fire in front of Scifi HQ... I've never understood the point of interns until now... ooooh if I can gather enough interns, I can spell out a burning firefly on the Scifi lawn. Bwahaha, better yet, some fox executives! I'm a genius!!

I figure if I run out I can just get homeless people and people who cut in front of other people in lines, and people who say something is "crunk" as opposed to good or cool, and hippies, and just put stickers that say 'Intern' on them. I assure you, everyone at my work hates interns. It will be a massacre.

Sci Fi Channel to do Firefly....great idea.

What about HBO films? They're making 10+ movies and specials a year now...most of them suck...can't believe HBO gets anything back from them...on the other hand if they produced a new Serenity movie or Firefly episodes they could build up an audience like they have for Sopranos, Big Love, and Entourage.

I believe HBO is the way to go....I want to see a new series began exactly....exactly where the movie left off...with River & Mal in the cockpit, and the rest of the crew dealing with the loss of Wash & Book.....Inara stays on as she teased Mal she would....maybe Zoe takes some time off back home to chill.....and of course the fallout from the Alliance over the Miranda wave.....Blue Hand Guys, Blue Sun Corp., The Academy, Sheppard Book's ident card ( is that how they knew his first name for his tombstone?),
more Yo Saff Bridge...and of course...what happens to RIver and Simon now? It would be awesome!

Firefly is all I watch......all other TV is rutting crap.

Thank you, Dewrastler , I don't believe anyone had done that yet; much appreciated.

This campaign is aimed at Sci/Fi for very specific reasons:

1) They already show Firefly in occasional Marathons, like they did yesterday.

2) They are a Division of NBC/Universal, who owns the BDM and has the TV Broadcast rights for it, as well.

THESE are the people we need to convince....

If HBO is a division of NBC/Universal, we might try them next, but they aren't, are they? I thought maybe Cinemax might be...

Hard to tell the Players without a Program!
