Edit: Title is BLOOD TIES. It's about a female cop who solves supernatural cases and is attracted to her partner, a vampire, hundreds of years old. I read on Whedonesque that it's from a series of novels and actually has more in common style-wise with ANGEL, rather than BUFFY, although the author is apparently a BUFFY fan. I guess it starts tonight with a two-hour episode from 9-11.

I think I might give it a shot, but I'm not holding my breath on enjoying it. I'll undoubtedly be drawing comparisons, and you know that'll be an instant nail in the coffin (pun intended) for me.

Also still in the works is a series on CBS about a vampire private detective in love with a mortal woman, presumably in the fall. There's an article about casting on zap2it's tv news section. Never heard of these people before.

JWA,

I'm thinking of giving this a shot too, but as you say... how in the world can it hold a candle to Joss' vampire 'verses?

Just looked at the time it's on though and that might conflict with BSG ( which I'm hugely into, although it's no Firefly ). May have to copy it.

The one coming in the fall sounds suspiciously like Angel, I'm supposin' that comparison has already been noted?

You know... it'd just be fun to have Joss back doing stuff on tv again, wouldn't it? You suppose everyone is as nostalgic for this as us?

Yes, it's been noted about the CBS show sounding like ANGEL. Me, for one (I posted about it on the ANGEL thread during my momentary freakout). Zap2it definitely, and I think TV Guide, too. Probably more.

I can't remember the name of the CBS show anymore, but it's by the creator of the BEAUTY & the BEAST series and one of the executive producers of VERONICA MARS (another of my favorite shows). So, it could be good, though I'm guessing the style will be more X-FILES/BEAUTY & THE BEAST than ANGEL. Still smart and romantic, but minus the metaphors and the emotional experience Joss is known for.

Sorry, forgot to reply to your last comment.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm sure others agree with us, though. I remember when ANGEL was first cancelled, TVGal from Zap2it said something about not wanting to live in a world without a Joss series on television. It wasn't the only time I ended up reading something similar on countless other sites from other people. It's just that one stuck out in my mind because it was the first one I saw that directly echoed my thoughts.

Even Kristen from EOnline has always compared Joss with JJ Abrams, considering them to be the two best directors on television. I think JJ is pretty great (a fan at one time or another of all three of his shows, just not the movies), so please don't get me wrong, but there is just no comparison! JJ does NOT inspire worship...Joss does!!!

I heard about this in our local newspaper a couple weeks back, and I'm like: "WTF, that's Angel! How can they do that?"

YYYYEAh. No.

May not be smart, and it may not please you, but you're definitely gonna see what I have to say.

It will conflict with Dresden Files and BSG, so I'll hope it's put up on torrents 'cause my Sunday nights are spoken for!

My first thought after watching exactly 2.8 seconds of this:

I could get up early and watch Angel tomorrow.

Honestly though, I blame Joss for this. He's raised the bar so high that no other show can ever really compete. I'll never be able to watch a vampire-themed show again.

(Unless, of course, Joss, or David Greenwalt, or Tim Minear is involved )

Neither of them I'm that into. But the one prospective vampire series I'm more excited for that I'm surprised no one has mentioned is the latest show from Alan Ball, the genius behind AMERICAN BEAUTY and SIX FEET UNDER, called TRUE BLOOD. It's based on this series of books called "Southern Vampire Tales" by Charlaine Harris about a world where due to the invention of synthetic blood, vampires no longer have to live in secrecy and have gone public with their identity. The series itself focuses on this Louisiana barmaid who can read minds and the shit that happens when a vampire named Bill walks into her bar.

It's an HBO show. Have no idea when it's out, but I've heard Anna Paquin is supposed to be in it.

THIS is the one vampire show I'm waiting for. If there's anyone who can redefine vampires, it's Alan.

Most definitely. I've been a drooling Charlaine Harris fan for some time now. She even has an essay in "Seven Seasons Of Buffy".

I just watched my tape of it. I have to say, I didn't hate it as much as I expected to. The special effects were ubelievably pathetic, and the fangs looked like they were purchased at a dollar store, but the rest wasn't too awful. Of course I might still be a little buzzed about the (did I imagine it?) actual chemistry between the two leads.
