So I just finished season 7 and I want to give the comics a try. But all I know about them is that....they're there. How many are there and is it known how many there will be? Where can I get them?

Thanks

Hi!
I really love these....
and I think it is amazing that Joss is continuing the saga!

Buffy Season 8 is published by Dark Horse
The best and fastest way to get the comics as they come out is to find your local comic book store and see if they will 'pull' them for you
(which means just set them aside so you don't have to rush over on Wednesday when they are released).

You can subscribe online through TFAW:
http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/Buffy-The-Vampire-Slayer:-Season-Eight-1-(
Fifth-Printing)___293694

but they are slow to mail them, you'll get it a week after everyone else and it gets annoying.

I subscribe through midtowncomics in Manhattan, who will mail quickly, but they have a minimum for subscriptions (but I get more than 10 per month so I don't have a problem there):
http://www.midtowncomics.com/
midtown is also good for getting the variant covers, they won't gouge you on the price!

if you are the patient type you can wait every 5-6 months for the trade paperback to come out (it is available at comic book stores and at Amazon):
http://www.amazon.com/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Season-Issues/dp/B000RQTRYW
personally I am NOT that patient!

Joss has indicated that the season 8 will take over a year, probably closer to two years (ie 24 issues) and he already has some ideas for a season 9!

And can I also suggest, you don't want to miss out on the Angel goodness!
Joss has outlined Angel's season 6 and it is entitled 'Angel: After the Fall'
http://www.idwpublishing.com/titles/angel_atf.shtml
it is being published by IDW and written by Brian Lynch, whose Spike books impressed Joss so much:
Spike: Asylum
http://www.amazon.com/Spike-Asylum-Brian-Lynch/dp/1600100619

Spike: Shadow Puppets
http://www.amazon.com/Spike-Shadow-Puppets-Brian-Lynch/dp/1600101127/r
ef=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199658479&sr=1-1

of course I would also recommend reading Fray:
Joss' future tale of the Slayer....
http://www.geocities.com/josswhedon_fray/?20086
but not over-lapping the Firefly/Serenity Universe

too much information, huh?
sorry about that....

I suppose I shouldn't mention about Joss writing the Astonishing X-men and Runaways comics?

Actually, in the letters column for issue 9 (I think), Scott Allie said season eight was going to run 40 issues. So around 2010 it'll end.

Then I'd imagine there'll be a break, and then season nine!

I'd suggest getting "The Long Way Home" trade paperback first, which contains issues 1 thru 5. It's probably cheaper than buying all 5 issues individually (you can get it at Amazon for around $14, I think, plus S&H), and there are no annoying ads every other page to distract you. Then, if you like it, you can pick up issues 6-10 (since the second TPB isn't coming out until June 4 )...

Okay, Chris, got #10 yesterday, and since you specifically asked...

I liked it. Didn't love it, but liked it. Better than "The Long Way Home"; not as good as "No Future For You" or "The Chain".

Select to view spoiler:

The Good:
- Seemed even longer than just an extra 3 pages. Some of the issues, you read them and then felt like you'd just waited an entire month for something that was the equivalent of about 7 minutes on-screen. This felt like 20-25 minutes worth of show, at least.

- A story that was majorly character-based, something that was severely lacking in S7.

- Interesting to finally find out where they've been getting their $$. Naughty Buffy.

- "Oh, look! Here's a you bad thing."

- "Television's Tina Fey."

The Bad:
- The Dawn revelation. Can you say "anticlimax"? It was cute at first, but I'm really getting tired of that story now, and hope they re-smallen her soon.

- The big things we find out in this one is that Willow still feels guilty about pulling Buffy out of Heaven? And that she feels like she chose Buffy over Tara? And that this is hurting her relationship with Kennedy? Umm... okay?

- I didn't get the ending. "Demons playing games", and the two of them walk off in different directions. Is that something we're supposed to wonder about, going forward ("Hmm, wonder what that meant?"), or was it supposed to be something totally self-evident that just went completely over my head?
