The only point I have any mild interest in is Heath Ledger. Which is as it should be, I suppose, 'cause that's the only film from the list that I've seen (I saw maybe 3 films in all of '08. I think.).

On 2nd thought, I'd also like to see Mickey Rourke win. I'm not particularly fond of him, but I like to see folks get a 2nd chance. So he's kind of the comeback kid. Or maybe the comeback curmudgeon.

It was like that when we got here!

I prefer Rourke myself, BUT I'm picking who I think WILL win, not who I WANT to win.

Don't care. I think the only movies I saw that are up for anything are Dark Knight and Ironman. While I think Heath Ledger did a great job it's just really annoying that there's soooooo much pressure for him to win. It seems unfair to the other actors up for that award. I'll still watch though usually you can go all MST3K on it and come up with some good lines.

Yeah, I'm a big film nut and I've loved a lot of the films that are nominated this year so I'll be watching it all. I still haven't seen Milk, Rachel Getting Married, Revolutionary Road, Doubt or The Reader (although I'm less worried about those, aside from Milk, which I'll watch tonight).
I've got all my winners picked out, although depending on Milk they may change.

My picks

Best picture - Slumdog

Best actor - Rourke or Langella

Best actress - Hathaway or Jolie

Best sup, actor - Heath Ledger

Best sup, actress- Henson

got all my others picked out too, if anyone wants to compare :P

Turns out , she is...

There was a lot of brouhaha about her not being nominated for the Globes or the SAG awards...

Apparently , the oversight has been corrected by the Oscar folk...

I've seen The Reader, and it was a good flick, dunno about awards ( what it's nom. for/up against, etc)but it was definitely multiple re-watchable. revolutionary road... just didn't really do anything for me... haven't watched milk yet, maybe tonight, I definitely think that slumdog should win best pic.

my big question is this:

YTF are the Oscars so early this year???

it's normally like late march early april right?
i can remember watching them at my friends dorm rooms after spring break...

did i miss a memo somewhere??

Make Cartoons, Not War

Why? No political jokes about Barry? I think Wolverine will bring some much needed CLASS to the show.

This is just a stunt to get people to watch, ratings are going to suck.

So far all the winners have been expected.

Penelope Cruz-Supporting Actress
Heath Ledger-Supporting Actor
A.R. Rahman-music for Slumdog Millionaire x2
Makeup and Special effects-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Sean Penn-Best Actor-a surprise!
Danny Broyl-Director Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire-Best Picture

I so like past winners talking about the nominees for the acting awards. It makes it more personal.

And what can I say about Hugh Jackman. He was perfect, from the beginning, the dancing with Beyonce and just being a good host.

Hugh was great, didn't particularly like the past winners talking as it replaced seeing clips of the actual performance, didn't like the Best Song Medley. Aside from that, I was fine with most of the choices, although I wasn't thrilled about most of them.
