Joss hinted at what's in the mysterious 13th episode.

Quote:

Episode 12, Omega was meant to be the season finale. The birth of the 13th was very strange. They said ‘Can't you just do a clip show?’ And I said that sounds lame. They said, ‘Can't you show the pilot?’ I'm like no, that wouldn't make any sense. And we've [already] cannibalized it for parts and it appears in almost every episode, so we couldn't do that. And they're like ‘But we've promised foreign DVD 13, it's a thing we have to have. And I'm like, look, I can't help you with your problems. I'm an artist. But I could shoot a weird post apocalyptic horror movie on the sets on video and pepper it with scenes of these people and do it while we're filming everything else concurrently and it will hardly cost you anything and it will be the strangest most awesome thing you've ever had. And we made it and I'm just so proud of it.

Just reading what Haken supplied, this puts me in mind of the look-and-feel of the River Tam sessions cranked up to "11"...

Effing Joss and his stranglehold on my wallet. If Dollhouse doesn't get a second season I don't think it's strong enough on it's own to make my DVD collection, but that episode sounds like Jossy goodness and I can't just not see it. Argh!

I can't find the news blurb at the moment, but I do recall an announcement several years ago that Joss signed a 4 series development deal with FOX. 'Firefly' and 'Dollhouse' are the first two, which means that Joss is contractually obligated to develop 2 more series before he can leave FOX. I'll dig around. I know the news was posted here on FFF.NET or elsewhere on the web.

Just gonna throw it out there...but does that not just sound like it has the possibility of being one of those classic 'Whedon' episodes that are nothing but awesome? I think it sounds amazing, and it irritates me that I have to wait to get it on DVD (or probably BluRay now).

Done some diggin myself looking for that, but the only story I could find with Joss actually signing a development deal was back in 98, so chances are it's expired by now.

If that was the timing, then 'Buffy' and 'Angel' should qualify, which means that 4 series have been produced, even if it didn't have an expiration clause. Both of them were produced by 20th fox, even though neither of them were shown on the fox network. Or is that not how these deals work?

Well, Buffy was already running at the time, so it likely would not be counted. Angel may have, though.

Is it possible that yoi guys are thinking of Tim Minear, not Joss? He had a three series deal (Firefly, Wonderfalls, and Drive).

Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

I don't know why Fox is under the control of their DVD department but I must say that I've stoked for the 13th episode.
However, the most interesting part of the article, IMO, is here:

Quote:

We also talked about next season, they called me specifically to say we've been hearing you sound a little despondent, being very clear about this, the show is not cancelled. The numbers have been soft, but the demographic is wonderful. DVR is great, they [FOX] are big fans of the show and they're waiting to see what happens, so now I've gone from a place that's sort of ehhhhhh, they don't even care, no one loves me, to a place of - God, I can't believe I'm saying this...hope.
