Wait the ending of BSG is enough to condemn it but Lost is a must watch before we know what in the world it was all about? I would put Lost on my avoid at all costs list. They don't like heroes cause it only had a good first season. What season besides the first was good on Lost? Everything has been plot holes and ridiculous mysteries.

I'm riding this Lost thing out, but I can't imagine how they could possibly wrap it up in a satisfying way. There are just so many little mysteries they seem to have thrown in for no good reason. The writers say that the "core mysteries" will be answered in the final season. Well what the heck did you throw the other mysteries in for if you weren't going to answer them!? *head explode*

I'll give them that Buffy is a great show, but I think their list is very short on both sides.

Gee, maybe because they want to see how they wrap it up before condemning something they haven't seen? Wacky idea... I know....

Groovy for you, but it's just your opinion - and a rather minority one to boot. You may not like it, but literally millions of people consider it the best show on TV.

Ah, but Chris...those shows are still on (in syndication anyway), Firefly is long gone...or I'll be it would be up there!

List is too short for me, too, but I'm gratified to see West Wing on top and Buffy as well! Shows class.

Here's one: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36195 : Firefly came in 14th (pretty damned good, considering how long it's been off the air!) and Buffy 2nd...and UGO put Buffy FIRST!

Amazon's list put Firefly THIRD: http://www.amazon.com/Best-TV-Shows-All-Time/lm/R2QOD1QGSHNRYA

The Boston Globe has Firefly at 14 http://www.boston.com/ae/tv/gallery/topscifishows?pg=35

Now, when you consider how short Firefly's life was and how few people saw it originally (I'm not counting us Browncoats who found it after the fact), I'd say that was pretty impressive! Also bearing in mind that people tend to think in terms of stuff they've seen recently, which makes it even more impressive...

I could make a long, LONG list these days of shows NOT to watch, but when I thought a bit, I can't come up with too much TO watch, even in syndication! Sorry state of affairs...sigh...

Last I checked there were billions of people alive today. You have a strange sense of the word minority. Plus lots of people watch shows they "love to hate". So, ratings do not show whether people actually think it's good or not. We'll have to wait to see the reaction when the show finally ends.

Oh, stop playing semantics. You know full well what I meant. But okay, of those who have actually seen Lost, the vast majority still think it's great.

Better?

And sure, some people watch shows they love to hate - but not many people waste their time like that. Pretty weak sauce.

Point being, just because YOU clearly have a big nasty hate-on for the show doesn't mean it's as horrible or hated as you seem to want to imply.

I'm not trying to prove it one way or another. I'm just stating opinion. Lots of people watching the show doesn't change my opinion at all. I think American Idol is total trash as well, but they get millions upon millions of happy viewers every year. I don't think the viewership changes the quality of the program.

I agree with American Idol and most reality shows--cheap and bad. Yes on House (tho' I've rented Frye and Laurie, and Blackadder--MUCH better!) and Scrubs.

Bones? David "Bonyass" couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

Psych? Embarrasing to see Dule Hill sunk so low.

What's this hard-on you've got for Olbermann? Ooops, I shouldn't ask; you're a Faux News fan, 'nuff said.

Agree on Letterman, tho'; mean-spirited man who's not funny.

Why the hard-on for Zeek? Are you regular opponents, or just snitty lately? Opinion is opinion, beyond that, what are we doing here?

Let me add True Blood on HBO. A totally unique look at vampires and other creatures (if Alan Ball half way follows the books, which are great by themselves). That and the bodies (Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Nelsan Ellis etc,-hey I'm female)are beautiful and the body count is impressive.

The Craig Ferguson Show. If I can stay up late enough this man has me laughing so hard that I'm usually up all night. His monologues are absurd, crazy and offer an outsider's view of the US. I loved it when he was campaigning to be named an honorary citizen of all 50 states. That's before he took the big leap of becoming a US citizen. The skits are bad enough to be really funny and he does miraclous things with puppets.

Ace of Cakes. I watch it more for the personalities than the cakes. I love Duff and who doesn't love Geoff and his dry laid back humor. And Mary Alice...gotta love a person that wears a t-shirt that says "Joss Whedon is my Master.".

And I have to add MASH. It was one of the first TV shows that really impressed me and was a must see.

Not Watch: I agree with David Letterman. He's gotten angrier and angrier over the years.

Most reality shows and especially American Idol. I just can't stand them. Except for America's Got Talent. It's very compelling for some strange reason.

Fair enough, sorry if I was overbearing.

Niki, I am *SOOOOOOO* glad you found this place. In addition to Firefly and Serenity, all seven seasons' worth of The West Wing and Buffy occupy prime real estate on my DVD shelf. And I've watched them all more than a few times.

My "Shows to Watch" list would probably be a good deal longer.

I'd ditch House and Bones (Bones is "okay", but hardly "must see") and add The Shield and Angel, Freaks & Geeks, True Blood, Dexter, and of all things, The Gilmore Girls. I don't know what it is about that show, but I just loved it. Hated PARTS of it, but loved the show overall.

I'd also add Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy to that list. Mad Men is good, but it's also weird - it's that show that you can't look away from, but nothing ever really happens. It's like everything happens off-screen, and you only hear it referred to obliquely. Still, it's gorgeous, and I can't take my eyes off it.

Psyche is one of those shows I just couldn't take at all. Ditto Lost.

And if I want to see Hugh Laurie, I'll watch MI-5 (aka "Spooks" in the UK). He was in a few eps early on. MI-5 is the show that "24" *wishes* it could be when it grows up.

Mike
