Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...
Quote:This morning, Fox News featured a segment highlighting a right-wing report that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) attended an Islamic “madrassa” school as a 6-year-old child.
Quote: In his book Dreams Of My Father (p.142), Obama writes: In Indonesia, I’d spent 2 years at a Muslim school, 2 years at a Catholic school. In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Koranic studies....Without the money to go to the international school that most expatriate children attended, I went to local Indonesian schools...
Quote:...the Indonesian school Obama attended in Jakarta is a public school that is not and never has been a Madrassa.
Quote:Fox & Friends falsely claimed that congressional Democrats are proposing to raise taxes "only in Republican red states." In fact, the year-old proposal discussed on Fox & Friends would lower taxes on areas with a high cost of living, regardless of how they vote, and would include areas represented by Republicans.
Quote:March 14: On The Fox Report anchor Shepard Smith reports that Saddam is planning to use flood water as a weapon by blowing up dams and causing severe flood damage. (This was totally untrue.) March 19: Fox anchor Shepard Smith reports that Iraqis are planning to detonate large stores of napalm buried deep below the earth to scorch coalition forces. (There was no basis for this and it was false) March 23: The network begins 2 days of unequivocal assertions that a 100-acre facility discovered by coalition forces at An Najaf is a chemical weapons plant. (Weeks later is it briefly conceded that the chemicals definitively detected at the facility were pesticides.) April 7: Repeated ominous footage of barrels buried in a below-ground shed near Karbala. The implication is that the Iraqi landscape is replete with these types of shelters, all of them brimming with evidence of chemical weapons. (They were agricultural chemicals as well.) May 16: Special Report with Brit Hume. Muslims, citing Islam's ban of alcohol, are torching liquor stores and threatening their Christian owners. (Fact: Under Saddam's secular regime, Christian names were banned and schools were nationalized, but guns and alcohol were freely available; there was tolerance for Iraq's 1 million Catholic and Protestant Christians.

The VHA has a death book that 'promotes pulling the plug'. The Bush administration suspended its use. VHA doctors must direct patients to the book. 4. Terrorist fist jab - E.D. Hill apologized for reporting on how others 'in the media' had characterized the Obamas' gesture, when in fact she alone characterized it that way. 5. Obama's first annual budget four times larger than any of Bush's 6. The number of czars are growing under Obama and they have unchecked power

Quote:It's not a " lie " to call a Muslim school a madrassa.
Quote:This article, citing anonymous sources, claimed that "Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia." But this allegation was quickly shown to be false. Days after the article appeared, CNN sent reporter John Vause to Jakarta, Indonesia, to visit the school. He reported: CNN: I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan. … I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that. CNN interviewed the school's deputy headmaster, Hardi Priyono, who said: "This is a public school. We don't focus on religion."

Quote:Originally posted by Niki2: Hee, hee, hee, Anthony, good one. Doesn't really bother me, and yes, he edited the quote to make it read like he wanted (which of course makes the other quote seem phony to me, too!). It's just mildly irritating and I don't want him to make it worse! Just for perspective, again, Fox News' ratings aren't what they're cracked up to be, as it's been shown that they don't even come NEAR reruns of other entertainment shows like The Closer (which I happen to love) and other equivalent things. Fox News ONLY bothers me in that the people who watch it don't watch any other source, and their lies and fraud end up worsening the entire situation by firing up their audience even worse with lies and distortions. Given that is the portion of the population most easily led and manipulated, it's been increasing the fear and hatred in a crowd already too riled up. The channel itself doesn't bother me one whit, as it's irrelevantly stupid. It's only the lies they perpetuate which are swallowed whole cloth by their audience. I abhor lying and manipulation. But do enjoy, it matters not to me. Also, one might note that the population which doesn't eat up Fox's pablum is spread between numerous other stations; if you were to combine all of them, it wouldn't be so much for Fox to gloat about. It's just a shame their audience doesn't get their "news" from more than one source.
