But you did, and you did a great job of analyzing it fairly.

I've yet to see the GOP take any kind of lead--leading isn't their style nowadays, tripping the other runner is their style. The GOP seems to be suffering, bleeding out, even. They have NO national face--no identity. What, Palin? Gingrich? Youch. The GOP's been more or less wholly co-opted by the extreme right, aka "the base." Every single "tea party candidate" is heading for a loss in a general election, right? You mobilize the folk who agree with "NO!" and you don't get any candidates that anyone is really gonna get excited about saying "YES!" to. Candidates REQUIRE such excitement to get 'em elected. "NO!" can trip up the Dem's, sure, scare 'em into abandoning their cause, but it's not a recipe for an electoral sweep. You can't win a national election just by saying the other guy sucks. You have to bring something positive to the table. And no one knows that better than the current leader of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama. The polling is bound to be misleading in this case for one reason: the trouble with polls is that negatives, the "disapproval" numbers, are always inflated owing to the fact that malcontents are always more mouthy, more motivated to make their voices heard, than people who find the status quo more acceptable--just ask anyone who works in customer service. Republicans HAVE GOT to put something actually positive, hopeful, perceptibly practicable forward if they're to have a prayer of winning much of anything this November. HKCavalier Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Or any other head-bangingly white bigot who thinks with their guts instead of their brains. Just bc the Dems are a bunch of quisling morons doesn't make the Repubs any better. It's just that the Repubs have managed to capture a significant group of proto-fascists. Oh, and for you liberals who think that inertia is going to capture the day... It was unthinkable until 2008 that the whole economic system would collapse. (Unthinkable for most people, that is.) The fact that liberals are crossing their fingers and are "hoping" that Republican fascists... those right-wingers who merge billionaire corporatism with tyrannical Christian government... don't win many elections... Has it not occurred to you that the mere fact that there are enough energized proto-fascists out there to constitute a political forces is in itself a danger sign? When an economy collapses, governments are not far behind. The ONLY thing that's going to make things right is swift effective government action to create jobs and get the economy going again. I know that there are some on the board who have "X"ed government out as a force for good. And then they run into the arms of the "great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money." www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/12697/64796 Good choice!

Quote:Republicans Introduce “Kill the Economy” Plan By Marcus Manfred Congressional Republicans unveiled a plan on Monday that they said would hurt the nation’s economy, benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and add billions to the national debt. The move is a continuation of Republican policies during the Bush administration and part of a plan they hope will lead to rising voter dissatisfaction and Republican gains at the ballot box. “Remember how we racked up huge deficits during the Bush years, gave billions to the wealthy and let the middle class fall behind? Well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R- Ohio) said. “We’re going to drive those unemployment and deficit numbers up so high that the American people will be voting Republican until they realize we screwed them over once again.”

Quote:So now you have a bunch of folks who are really riled up and not thinking clearly, and you can lead them down any merry path you choose: just get a red cape, paint "Muslim" or "illegal immigrant" or "gubmint" on it, wave it around, and let people charge down that path. Economic instability like this IS a recipe for fascism... Germans voted for it back when, and Americans are voting for it now.

Only in your twisted little mind - you MIGHT look at how many bills they co-sponsored, you MIGHT look at how fiscal responsibility, limited government, an end to imperialism and flat common sense should be universal principles, but that both of em are willing to buck their own damn party to hold to them. The only reason you don't see it, is the same reason you are blind to the fact that the GOP has, itself, also committed every single offense you flame the Dems for, that those parties are two sides of the same ugly face. Partisanship. And stupidity of course, that cause it just wouldn't be right NOT to insult you, you bein a masochist and all... -Frem I do not serve the Blind God.

Quote:Most Americans who identify with the tea party movement are understandably concerned about the size and reach of government. Their enthusiasm is a clear Republican advantage. But tea party populism is just as clearly incompatible with some conservative and Republican beliefs.
