America loves a winner!

Make up your own damn headline, what difference does it make anyhow ?

Some will read it, and see what is going on, while others will dismiss it out of hand, making some sort of asinine, irrational excuse, blame Bush, and then call ME a racist.

I don't care. Reality is what it is. You either learn to face it, or be faced by it.

From the bastion of Right wing/Tea Party nuttery,....the Seattle Weekly News ?

Quote:

On the Advice of the FBI, Cartoonist Molly Norris Disappears From View

Her work won't be in Seattle Weekly anymore, or anywhere else.

By Mark D. Fefer Wednesday, Sep 15 2010

You may have noticed that Molly Norris' comic is not in the paper this week. That's because there is no more Molly.

The gifted artist is alive and well, thankfully. But on the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI, she is, as they put it, "going ghost": moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in our paper or in City Arts magazine, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection program—except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab. It's all because of the appalling fatwa issued against her this summer, following her infamous "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" cartoon.

Norris views the situation with her customary sense of the world's complexity, and absurdity. When FBI agents, on a recent visit, instructed her to always keep watch for anyone following her, she joked, "Well, at least it'll keep me from being so self-involved!" It was, she says, the first time the agents managed a smile. She likens the situation to cancer—it might basically be nothing, it might be urgent and serious, it might go away and never return, or it might pop up again when she least expects it.

We're hoping the religious bigots go into full and immediate remission, and we wish her the best.

I thought that everyone draw Mo' day was clever and dandy way of pointing out the absurd privilege Muslims...ahem, some Muslims...claim for themselves: draw our prophet or do anything insulting and we can't be blamed for killing you. I mean, you wouldn't try to kill a million people over a bunch of stupid drawings, right? Right? Very distressed by the results; further soldifies my stance regading radical islam.

Actually, crap, I forgot, i vote Democratic.

Anyway, Rappy, you're a HYPOCRITE for ignoring all of the CHRISTIAN and JEWISH and BUDDHIST folks who try to censor people with violence. Like the iconoclasts of 8th century Byzantium for example. AND THE CRUSADERS. Clearly, Ms. Norris is in the grip of hate and fear and she is a bigot.

Several people on this board CHEERED when Scott Roeder "censored" Dr. George Tiller's life in a church, all for the "crime" of performing perfectly legal medical procedures and giving access to health care to women who couldn't get it elsewhere. Rappy never uttered a word against such religious violence, because it came from people he fundamentally agrees with.

I refuse to put myself in the position of defending the loathsome Rappy, but I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and think that he doesn't support shooting abortionists, or agree witht he world view that produces such results.

Anyway, how can you not be distressed by the result of Draw Mo' day? Is it because Rappy posted it? I mean, I would understand that reaction I suppose. Were Newt Gingrich to say "i hate eating fecal matter" my immediate reaction would be "fecal matter is great!" and then I'd go try to teach myself to enjoy it.

WTF, gentlemen? This is a sorry piece of news. I don't know that I can fully endorse the FBI's advice to the cartoonist without understanding the situation better. It troubles me that you two think this is somehow compelling evidence in support of your...cause. I presume that they showed her, y'know, all kinds of evidence that assassins were infiltrating our country with little playing cards with her photo on 'em or something just as, y'know, conclusive.

How is she in danger? Are there cases in this country of Muslim assassins menacing artists? Are the FBI and CIA so pathetic that they can't keep an eye on a cartoonist working in Seattle? Or are they just lazy? And, and, please, y'know, does it really take nothing more than a jackass in a turban somewhere in Yemen to say "jump" for the FBI to say "how high?"

I mean, crap, if all it takes is a cartoonist at an independent weekly to get the ter'rists dedicating time and man-power and cold hard cash to take the cartoonist out, why not set up a few dozen CIA operatives in weekly magazines around the country/world so they can insult the Mo' and wait to capture all the jihadis when they come to git 'em?

Seriously, do people really think these jihadis have us by the balls like this? Where does it end? Turbaned Jackass #159 puts out fatwa on gradeschool children, nation closes schools. Turbaned Jackass #160 puts out fatwa on prominent Senator, Senator resigns and retires to an undisclosed location. We can't burn Quran's 'cause it would "put our troops in jeopardy" and we can't build a Muslim community center because it would "embolden" 'em, and we can't not build it because it would "anger" them. It's insane.

Look, this jackass puttin' out the fatwa on a weekly cartoonist? Not the sharpest tool in the tent, not the mastermind behind 9/11 or anything else but putting a great big CIA target on his head. He is...a Mo'-ron. If I were the FBI I'd take him off my person of interest list, 'cause he's just not a player. Now, does this all mean that I'd encourage Ms. Norris to go vacationing in Saudi Arabia, um, well, 'course not--but I wouldn't advise anyone I liked to go to that country, 'cause them folks is scary!

Question for my Muslim-friendly liberal friends, you rightous guardians and purveyors of pinpoint political correctness, and acute multi-galactic intellectualism.....is it still OK for me, a lowly female unrepentant Infidel, to occasionally watch one of my favorite classic movies, The Thief Of Bagdad? It's got all those Arabs and carpets, genies, camels, dancing virgins in silk pants, and a couple of decapitations, but mostly I watch to see and pine over the ultra-dream hunk Sabu. He was going through his off-white, close-cut loin cloth phase then, and it's something I can at least call mine in this crazy mixed-up world. Please say it's ok!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_van_Gogh_(film_director)

"Assassination

Mohammed Bouyeri murdered Van Gogh in the early morning of 2 November 2004, in Amsterdam, in front of the Amsterdam East borough office on the corner of the Linnaeusstraat and Tweede Oosterparkstraat, while he was cycling to work. Bouyeri shot van Gogh eight times with an HS 2000 handgun, and Van Gogh died on the spot. Bouyeri then attempted to decapitate him with one knife, and stabbed him in the chest with another. The two knives were left implanted in his torso, one attaching a five-page note to his body.
The killer, Mohammed Bouyeri, a 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan citizen, was apprehended by the police after being shot in the leg. Bouyeri has alleged terrorist ties with the Dutch Hofstad Network. He was also charged with the attempted murder of several police officers and bystanders, illegal possession of a firearm, and conspiring to murder others. Imam Fawaz of the as-Sunnah Mosque in The Hague gave a sermon several weeks before the murder in which he called Theo van Gogh "a 'criminal bastard' and prayed for the filmmaker to be afflicted with an incurable disease." The murder of Theo Van Gogh sparked a storm of outrage throughout the Netherlands."

I didn't lie, you did. Van Gogh was nearly decapitated, his head left dangling by the severed fleshy remains of his bloody neck. Lemme guess, because the murdering Muslim left a note with another knife plinged into Van Gogh's chest, does that also make it a freedom of speech issue for you? I'm sure your well-honed liberal sensibilities of Muslim useful-idiotness make you all torn about the case.

Oh, that's just what all the morally bankrupt Muslim apologists say as their universal catch-phrase retort. It's pathetic, but what else do you expect. It's sadly similar to their ongoing inability to differentiate beween illegal aliens and legal aliens. They have a tough time with simple concepts I've noticed, instead they prefer the more existential.

Note you say "Islam", not "Islamic extremists". That would be the entire religion and everyone in it you're talking about.

In the same thread, you reject that Muslims are quite gentle: "but most the time they're [meaning Muslims are] really quite gentle..... which I reject, out of hand. "

Then there's your continued insistence that the community center is meant to be a "Victory Mosque", though there is absolutely no evidence of such a thing. In fact, the center is quite plainly meant as a peaceful, wound-healing venture.

And that's just one thread I randomly looked into!

Quote:

To the best of my recollection, I've gone to a good bit of effort to make that point very clear, that not ALL are terrorists,
Yeah, you said once that you just wanted to go about your business and leave others to theirs. Except, of course, if the others are Muslims and their daily business is build a building on land they own, to continue peaceful, every day activities they've been doing on that same site for years. (It's my understanding they've had a meeting site in the old building there for some time. Funny, how that wasn't a problem. Nor were the mosque prayer rooms in the WTC itself. Nor has any hate-monger acknowledged that some Muslims who prayed in those WTC rooms died on 9-11.)

Anyway, since we're digging up old posts, could you point out where anyone on the site claimed that no Muslims are terrorists? (It's only the eight or ninth time you've been asked this...) You can't find such a statement, can you? But that doesn't stop you from continuing the same silly argue against it.

How about you try debating what people are *actually* saying, kind'a like I'm arguing against the bias and hate you continue to spew.

Note I didn't say Christian extremists either. I was obviously pointing out the difference between the random murder of an abortion doctor by some whacked out Christian fundie, who is soundly condemned by all areas of that religion, vs the jihadists who weekly murder, or blow themselves up, while along with dozens or hundreds of innocents.

The victory mosque / community centre is anything but healing. Nothing could be more obvious, just look at the national reaction to the issue. The gesture isn't appreciated, and no one is buying the threat by Iman Rauf that we HAVE to let him build it there, for national security issues, or else the 'peaceful' muslims will act up and riot.

Man, how frackin' ironic.

Yeah, go about their daily routine and peacefully build their mosque, but not at the WTC site. Seems simple enough, yet some refuse to give in to good, common sense. They'd rather insist on being stubborn, and tell us line after line of b.s. And sadly, useful idiots, such as yourself, will buy it, hook - line and sinker.

And by not addressing the issue of Islamic radicals, the violent jihadists, or by trying to equivocate it to all other sorts of violence, you are ignoring or minimizing the true nature of who these people are and what they're trying to accomplish. I don't need to show examples of you NOT addressing the issue, because there's nothing for me TO post. Your lack of acknowledgement IS my proof. Seems fairly straight forward enough, but you want to waste time on a message board tossing up straw men, instead of dealing with real issues... have at it. Just count me out.

Nope, that's you who is imagining that his head was severed. Never happened. You're repeating lies again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_van_Gogh_(film_director)

You're full of shit, yet again. YOU said that "Theo van Gogh must have only imagined that his head was severed on a city street". He couldn't have "imagined" it, because his head wasn't severed, AND he was dead before the guy even tried and failed to sever his head.

Now, had you just mentioned that he'd been MURDERED by a Muslim fanatic, I'd have had no problem agreeing. Instead, in your fevered rush to try to conflate it into something much bigger, much worse, you stepped over the line into outright lying.

So much for your trying to tone it down, eh, Jongsie?

However, lots of Republicans DO want the community center there.

Which Republicans want the mosque there ? Aside from life long Dem and turn coat billionaire Mayor Bloomberg ? And what does it matter anyway?

Most AMERICANS don't want the mosque there. Most New Yorkers don't either. That's all that matters.

The Wikipedia article says the murderering Muslim tried to decapitate him with a knife. Are you trying to say that it actually makes a difference to you whether the decapitation took place before or after the gunshots? I didn't think it possible to be that much of a twit. Or does it make a huge difference to you whether the head was completely cut off, or just mostly cut off. If so, then you are quite nuts in my book.

The problem with the "logic" proposed is, once again, something we've gone over again and again.

"Most Americans" or "most New Yorkers" isn't a valid argument. MOST Americans were against Jews in the military, equal rights for Blacks, women in the military, and on and on and on.

History has shown both that people can be manipulated into having an opinion and that opinions change over time--or, if you'd prefer, societies evolve over time to be more tolerant overall. They also DEvolve at times, which is exactly what's happened here.

Our government was created to put in place safeguards so that, however public opinion may waver, the same protections are provided to ALL citizens...be they hispanic-looking citizens who have rights against search and seizure, or Muslim-Americans who have property rights and the right to freedom of worship.

"Most" anything is no argument at all. It speaks to current FEELINGS or beliefs, which can be molded for or against any group--again as is evidenced currently, tho' until we had a Democratic President who was half black, and a GOP intent on defeating him via any masures necessary, as a country we had no problem with tolerance toward Muslims. Now a percentage of us have been riled up against both Hispanics and Muslims...often by use of LIES (such as headless bodies in the desert). These things will pass, and if our government followed the "wants" of the masses, we would be turning in circles and no rights would be sacrosanct for any citizen.

In other words, our laws and the Consititution should stand and be abided by, regardless of popular feelings at any given time.

By the way, regarding lies. Given there is no FACTUAL evidence to the contrary, calling the community center a "mosque" (we've been over that one), saying it is at "ground zero", claiming it's a "victory mosque" or what the purposes behind it are, might well be considered lies in and of themselves, mightn't they? Tricky point, but as they are presented as "those are the FACTS" when they're actually opinions based on things which are not facts, don't they fit the definition?

Looks like another Liberal that can't come to terms with reality. Yeah, bury your head in the ground, and ignore the fact that 3/4 of Americans are against you on this. Better do the same Election Night too. If you're not "prepared", the jolting devastation will be much harder for you to cope with. In the meantime, yeah, keep practicing to be an obtuse twit. I assume you posted at the same time I did, but would like to hear your refutation as to why our Constitution and laws should follow public whim.

I don't think there's a liberal anywhere who doesn't expect to lose seats in November, so I don't see how it can be jolting that we'll lose seats, nor do I think it will be "devastating". Government moves on; first one party in power, then the other. Personally, I just hope some of the more extreme, unrealistic candidates won't make it, and I think that will be true. If they do, my sadness will be for the country; I kinda doubt many with left leanings here have such intense partisanship that they will take it personally.

"Obtuse", "twit" and "moronic" terminology is only slightly less offensive than the words you used to use, but just as rancorous. Since reappearing the last day or two, your "partisan jihad" seems even more rancorous than when you last posted, which is the true shame. It wouldn't occur to me to call you similar names, but you certainly have the right to do so.

I am not a Liberal. I am not a Conservative. I am a REALIST. As much as is possible in this grey-area world we live in. There are NO easy answers, except those provided TO us by the extreme Nazi tactics employed by BOTH Left & Right jerkweeds.

Those words are far more innocent than when Kwicko wrote that I was full of sh*t and called me a liar. Called me a liar, even after I posted a cite which proved I was right. Why don't you first deal with your own rabid dogs, Kwicko and Chrisisall, before you start pontificating to me about tone and content, not that I expect you to, and not that I even care how their hate manifests itself. Seems they just can't stand to lose any argument, so they dive into the gutter and reveal their true selves. If you choose not to deal with them, I will understand your difficult situation. Go back up and re-read. I said that you were repeating lies. According to your messiah here (Rappy), that doesn't mean you were lying; it means you didn't know you weren't telling the truth.

To which you replied:

Quote:

So you claim *I* lied, then go on a rant calling me (and ALL liberals, by group) "idiots".

So yeah, you've really toned down your bullshit, haven't you?

I said you were full of shit AFTER you called me a liar. And the cite you claim "proved" that you were right? It doesn't. In point of fact, it proves that *I* was correct, and that Van Gogh WAS NOT BEHEADED. You claimed - and still claim - that he was.

So tell me, in your book, does it matter if I say that Reagan was assassinated in 1981? After all, he IS dead, and someone DID try to assassinate him, so it's all the same in the end, right? ;)

RL, I have taken Mike to task several times, both on the board and off. Chris just now started getting nasty, and explained why; it doesn't excuse it in my mind and I do understand, but it DOESN'T excuse it. I wish he wouldn't, I've always respected him and looked up to his ability to keep his "buddhist chip" on better than I.

I just thought you had decided to rise above the stink, that's all, and was saddened to see you diving back in. As I said, it IS your right, I'm just sad to see the tit for tat on both sides.

Obviously it's not just you, I was merely expressing my disappointment, and if you've been here any length of time, you've seen that I decry it on BOTH sides. I've also defended those who are vicious to me when I felt they were treated unfairly by others.

Since I "took back up my buddhist chip" ("buddhist", by the way, isn't supposed to be capitalized, just FYI for anyone who's interested), I'm trying very hard (but not completely succeeding, I freely admit) to stay away from pejorative name-calling. I guess it bothers me that there have been repeated predictions that you would be attacked and give up trying to be civil, and I wish we could avoid attacks on either side, but rather encourage disagreement that didn't necessitate derrogatory name calling. Call me a priss; it's what I will always encourage.

I thought you were with me, that's all. No biggie.

River,

The limited intelligence crowd, like Kwickie, know they have nothing with which to respond, so they resort to trying to find the most menial, tiny issue to disagree with or point out something, ANYTHING, just to claim you're wrong.

It's how they roll. They can't deny that Theo Van Gogh was murdered, in broad day light, by a Muslim Jihadist. So, in an attempt to 'win' the argument, they'll ignore all the relevant issues, and instead focus on whether it was on a Tuesday, and not a Wednesday, if he was 'nearly' decapitated, or merely had his throat cut, or they'll point out some typo, to PROVE that you're wrong.

In their minds, being able to show that you were wrong about anything, means that your entire point of view is flawed, and to be ignored completely. The Left argues like a collective group of stubborn, petulant children, even when they know they have no case to argue.
